Not to be argumentative but Adriana had a serious drug problem that included shooting up more than one type of dope, she KNEW that both her boyfriend and his family were connected. No matter how sweet she may have been, she was hardly naive. Imho. As far as her surviving; the Feds gave her little time to bring Christopher in. Keep in mind that it was Christopher that they wanted, ( it was actually Anthony John Soprano but...) not Adriana. They foolishly tried to use the threat of a murder charge for her as leverage to force her to try to get Christopher to flip Etc, etc., etc...

In "Kennedy & Heidi", the clarity that Tony embraces at the roulette wheel is very believable. He knew Christopher had the potential to be a loose cannon, and with Adrianna dead, anything detrimental to Tony could happen. At the most unlikely moment, Tony is at peace with his decision. Season 2 was The Sopranos’ best season in my opinion. It’s so hard to rank them though. A lot of people say 4 is the worst but I personally think 6A is their weakest season despite it having a strong start with the first 2-3 episodes. Vito’s plot was interesting but was one of the weaker narratives in the show and the overall writing in 6A felt watered down, and it really just fizzled out by the season finale. They recovered in 6B though which is up there when debating the best season in the show.

"Walk Like a Man" would have been on my list. The episode acts as a prelude for Chris's death episode "Kennedy and Heidi". Michael Imperioli at his best giving heartbreaking performance of Chris's downfall as he realizes he's got no support from anyone around. When the episode ends with Los Lobos song, you can easily start to wonder, what kind of people are you surrounded with. Who are your true friends?

I never see anyone talking about “Mayham”. The episode where Tony comes out of his coma. The artistic visualization of purgatory and Meadows voice waking him up makes me cry every time. That and this episode has the funniest moment where Paulie somehow makes Tony have a heartattack while he’s in a coma 💀

I still consider The Sopranos the greatest TV show ever. Nothing has matched its combination of social and psychological investigation, brave and consistent characterization, great acting, fantastic dialogue, ambitious and constantly evolving storytelling, its blend of humor and morose and great production values. Nevermind how the show changed the path of television and influenced almost every acclaimed show that came after it. However, some of this video is a lil off. Like, very few fans think season four is the best. Many think it's the weakest. I like it very much though. Has a lot of re-watch value. But very few consider it the best. Also, the list left a bit to be desired and it's too heavy with late episodes. But the show really does have more good to great episodes than any other series ever. My top ten: 1. Funhouse 2. College 3. Long Term Parking 4. I Dream of Jeannie Cusamano 5. Join the Club 6. The Second Coming 7. Pine Barrens 8. Irregular Around the Margins 9. Sopranos Home Movies 10. Knight in White Satin Armor/From Where to Eternity

Everything you said is correct. Season 1 finale is top 3...so is Long term parking....but Heidi and Kennedy should definitely be top 10...that episode was so eerie and nihilistic, and showed Tony and Christopher for what they were. And Irregular around the Margins was an insanely great episode....can't believe they missed that. The list was too heavy on the late seasons and you're right most ppl consider season 4 one of the weaker seasons....it got a little soap opera ish. 4 and the first half of 6 were the two weakest seasons.....the second half of 6 was excellent though. And yes, the Sopranos was the first great series and basically made the formula for the Breaking Bads and others after it, they had the best writers, and directors in the business.

Breaking Bad is awesome but The Sopranos is WAY more visceral. It has more characters who has more interesting stories, Tony's enemies: Ritchie Aprile, Ralph Cipharetto, Phil Leottardo, his own uncle Jr. etc. Even the secondary characters are genuine like Christopher who was a pain in the ass but a eternal incomfort employee of Tony, just like Paulie who often felt ignored. Even the tertiary characters like Artie as the pathetic childhood friend of Tony (everyone has a friend like that), the man he hang himself in Season 5, Vito's homosexuality that was simply out of the mafia cannons putting Tony in a dilemma. Breaking Bad has a fine set of characters but there a are few really interesting characters like Walt, Jessie, Hank, Skyler, Marie, Gus Fringe, Mike Ermanthraut, Saul Goodman, Salamanca Dinasty but I can't say the same of Gale Botticher, Victor, Steve Gomez even he's my paisa, countryman; Lydia Rodart, the only interesting with her is that she was a facilitator, same with Jessie's two girlfriends, Jane as a rotten apple and Andrea as rotten (drugs). See? Breaking Bad screenplay is excellent, thrilling. The Sopranos has a peculiar formula in every episode: 2 main plots of the progress of the storyline & 2 secondary plots to balance with dark humor or pure entertainment. Both show have the BEST CHARACTER PROFILES but the BEST CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT goes to The Sopranos, we watch Tony's decay, Meadow's independence, Carmela's codependence, Anthony Jr.'s wanna be to philosophy but still in diapers, Christopher hating Tony, every time more, Paulie also with mixed feelings, Furio so disgusted working for him so he flee, Dr. Melfi every time more sceptic about Tony's improvement. In Breaking Bad, the most interesting developments are 3: Walt's breaking bad, every time more obscure, maquiavelic, mastermind. Jesse's highs & lows 'cause his addiction and mixed feelings with Walt; and Skyler's emancipation of Walt's expectations on her, she no longer takes the scam and PUM She fucked Ted. A little conventional affair based in revenge instead of Carmela's affair with AJ's teacher. Even if she mentions Madame Bovary is a boring book and nothing erotic at all, the irony is she is just like Madame Bovary 'cause she questions the action itself, her behavior, her intentions, his intentions, everything is more complex than just spreading her legs. In other episode, Carmela again misinterpret a book when she and Tony are visiting their daughter Meadow. Carmela is so phony that she implies the protagonist of the book she read is not gay, he can't be gay 'cause of her catholic values which are questionable already, the serie often aimed to mirror the hipocrisy of characters. The ending in Breaking Bad is more satisfactory, epic but today is just that, a good previsible ending. The Sopranos ending has been analysed several times until nowadays, more original, different, unexpected, unsettling so you were focused in every detail to have a shred of information that the episode wasn't giving you. Everyone has their theories, Did Tony get whacked? Did he ended his meal peacefully but later did he end up handcuffed? One thing true is that we definitely got whacked!!!

"Pine Barrens" is definitely the best episode of the series but I would have put "College" at No. 2. It was the first Sopranos episode I saw and it was the one that broke the mold of the TV drama series going forward. Without the Sopranos, there would be no "Dexter," "Mad Men" or "Breaking Bad." Thank you David Chase for writing such ground-breaking characters!

+Tom Van Renen lol you wish, the pacing in seasons 3-4 was kinda heavy in Breaking Bad, but normal compared to Deadwood or Rectify (worst pacing ever). 1. The Sopranos 2. Game of Thrones (this season is gonna rock) 3. The Wire 4. Fargo 5. Better Call Saul 6. Breaking Bad 7. Six Feet Under 8. Justified 9. The Americans 10. Boardwalk Empire honorable mention: First four seasons of Mad Men.
@MeesTW8 жыл бұрын
***** I appreciate those rankings in some way but a lot of people are going to disagree. Game Of Thrones better than The Wire? I like both shows but you can't deny that Game Of Thrones has gotten quite flawed in the past few seasons. Especially season 5, while The Wire was really good all the time. And Better Call Saul above Breaking Bad? That's a very unpopular opinion. Also there's nothing wrong with Deadwood's pacing.

As great as Pine Barrens is it lacks the depth and layers of the show at its best. 10. The Second Coming - One of television's most harrowing scenes as Tony saves AJ, and a rare glimmer into the humanity underneath Tony's toxic masculine exterior. 9. Kennedy and Heidi: 8. Long Term Parking - An episode of unparalleled dread 7. Whitecaps - An ingenious finish to a divisive season and a couple of the finest acting performances ever on the small screen. 6. The Knight In White Satin Armor - An episode that showcases the show's subversive brilliance, after a season that seemed to be building to a big Tony/Richie showdown Janice shoots her beau dead and confirms herself as a true Soprano 5. Employee of The Months - How an episode of TV turned into a parable about morality and choice. 4. Funhouse - A masterclass in dream logic and sequences, punctuated with one of the show's greatest scenes and a death that would hang over the remainder of the show. 3. I Dream of Jeannie Cusamano - A perfect finale to a perfect season of television, wall to wall with some of TV's greatest moment, none less so than that chilling smile Livia gives to Tony before he has the chance to kill her. 2. Made In America - The great divider, some may hate it but Made In America is one of the greatest series finales ever. It is a lot more than its final scene (the penultimate scene is possibly my favorite in the whole of The Sopranos, as Tony visits Junior) but those final few minutes are some of the most layered and best constructed in all of television. 1. College - One of the most deftly constructed episodes of television ever and a perfect microcosm for the show as a whole. Ultimately The Sopranos is a tale of false dawns, of how these people feel like they have found a sense of enlightenment only to still choose what is easy over what is right, again and again.
@johncooper22656 жыл бұрын
Well, your list is certainly WAAAAAY better than Mojo's. I like Pine Barrens, but it's not Top-10, and it's a joke to be placed at #1. I like your Top-4 and wouldn't even tweak it. I'd move #6 up to #5. Flip "Kennedy and Heidi" with "Whitecaps". Drop out "The Second Coming" and "Employee of The Month" and sub in "Marco Polo" (loved all the shows that featured Tony as master of his backyard and/or pool), and "The Strong Silent Type" (the "intervention" led by Dominic -& hilariously interrupted by everyone else- to try and convince Christopher to go into a rehab facility was perhaps the greatest single scene in the entire series).
@lauchalz15 жыл бұрын
'The Second Coming' is so fucking good. Easily a top 3 for me. That scene you mention breaks my heart and that's why this show is timeless: it takes you everywhere with its rollercoaster of emotions (because I hated AJ. He was a pain in the ass but you just can't not feel bad for him), and I personally think that episode was really the beginning of the end for Tony (he's just traumatized. I mean, he doesn't give a shit when he visits Phil with Carmine Jr. His mind is in another place)
@jokerswildio5 жыл бұрын
I agree with your list. But I would put "The Second Coming" in the top 5. The scene where Tony saves his son and they both start crying is perhaps one of the most poignantly emotional scenes in not only Television, but screen history.

There are many to name, but I noticed many ppl don't care for "Made in America", the final episode. There is something quite jarringly different about that episode compared to the others and for some reason it stands out to me bc of that. It's not the best episode, but the lil things like all of the hints and odd things that happens in it(the first scene with Tony waking up that looks like he's in a casket,the abrupt cutting throughout the episodes,the cat that stares at Chris' picture,etc) The final scene may be the most tense final scene of a tv show of all time and it all happens in what appears to be just another typical family dinner at a restaurant. It builds tension and paranoia with someone trying to park their car as different ppl walk in and the use of a character who may or may not be a threat and it;s just genius. Never have we been in the shoes of our anti-hero quite like this and probably never will be again. R.I.P. to the great Gandolfini and to my favorite show ever.
@fenriz2188 жыл бұрын
+Joe Nathan I think most fans had the similar reaction and experience with that episode: watching, almost having to wipe a tear away, because there certainly wasn't to be any more, getting more and more nervous during the last five minutes, half sure that they were going to fuck this finale up - then cursing for a whole 10 seconds until realizing that we had just watched the most perfect finale of any TV-show. And the best part being, that you can rewatch this particular episode over and over again, and will always find new nuansces one hasn't noticed during previous sittings. Pure film-magic!

All great episodes, however it is "All Due Respect" that gets me every time. Because not only it is the most difficult murder ( more of a mercy killing) for Tony to commit, his cousin: Tony Blundetto, to avoid war with Brooklyn. It also has a great speech from Soprano to his Soldiers & Captains @ Vesuvio about the DiMeo family risky position to New York. I also really love the separate scenes with either Silvio and Paulie. The former gives him his 2-cents , although Silvio reminds him that he knows him well enough to know that ultimately he won't "bow down" to "authority", and with Paulie we see how much his Capo not only admires him, that semi-comical scene with the painting in which Tony sees a portrait of him and the horse Pie-O-My , leading Tony to think Paulie save it from the flames to piss him off, but it ultimately reminds him what a "General" must do as he trashes it. The meeting @Johnny Sack house securing peace with the factions, and immediately after, the FBI arrest of Sacrimoni; prompting Tony to a foot escape to home all are one of a kind for the show scenes.
@Derekxs8 жыл бұрын
That was a great episode.. The way Tony stared at that painting showed how complex and vulnerable his character was.. I also loved "Knight in white satin armor" The argument between Janice and Richie Aprile about his sons ball room dancing leading to Janice stating "so what if he's gay?" then Richie quickly punched her in the mouth and asks her if she is going to cry. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned is an understatement.
