My favourite the K5/K6. Why? Because I have got a K6 . The engine in that bike is simply awesome. The bike is light and handles so well. Used mine as track bike , but at age 63 decided I was beyond track riding . Now I just use it as road bike which I cruise around on !

You forgot the 1985 gs 1150e. It's a classic monster power bike. Mine was completely upgraded by racers supply in Calif. From engine internal upgrades, smooth bore carbs, rearsets, quarter throttle, suspension upgrades, under cut gears, rotors, stainless lines, etc. It was true laguana seca bike used to track top racers' performance. So, yes, it was far from factory, but I'd die to have it back. I regretably shipped it to Japan to a buyer. 😢. Damn thing was running in the 9.20's at Palmdale quarter mile raceway. Best damn street bike EVER!!!@

I love the TL 1000s and bought one in 1997 . Brilliant memories with that bike. Also have memories of the 1985 GSXR 750 bikes that entered the Le Mans 24hrs that year. They were obviously still being developed after seeing a number of them grenade that oil cooled engine in to a million pieces. Also witnessed the biggest tank slapper Ive ever seen as a GSXR went under the Dunlop bridge with front wheel pawing the air and landing crossed up. The bike was literally brushed up and shovelled into a flat bed truck .

GSXR-750 is one of the best bikes ever made of any class, any manufacturer. Easily the best Suzuki. OK, the newer versions not so much as Suzuki stopped developing it, but the early and midlife models in their day were almost as powerful as the bigger class sports bikes, but weighed much less - around the same as the 600cc bikes. Only the popuarlist belief that bigger and slightly more powerful bikes drove down the sales and therefore development of the GSXR-750. If that hadn't been the case, Suzuki would've developed the GSXR-750 into a 160bhp, 160Kg (dry) ultimate sports bike - arguably the spec most of us actually need. Build it and see the want 😎

I remember the 80s mod GSX R750... which was my no 2 favorite in this test... but the 500 Gamma was what I desired... I owned a Yamaha TDR250, a Yamaha RD350LC and a Yamaha RD500LC and I always wanted to get the Suzuki Gamma too... there was also a a 3 cylinder Honda NS400R ... for the non two stroke rider: moped like weight and rattle in lower rpm's... which turns into a screaming at higher rpm's, associated with a brutal acceleration... yes I would burn the GSX R in the twisties... all the would see was the 4 exhaust pipes (or 2 with the TDR and RD)... and the smell of the two stroke race oil coming from the exhaust and filling the air made it unforgettable, even addictive... too bad they dont produce them anymore... I would certainly own one again... if God would give me a sign and make me stumble over one... 😉 ... PS: maybe we need a 250/350 and 400/500 two stroke test comparison of these GP replica bikes... tell me you are not tempted... 👿

Yeah, the 16 valve 1100 with the roller bearing crank was unbreakable. I had a conversation with Byron Hines one day at a Suzuki dealer meeting when he and Terry Vance were running a Suzuki in top fuel drag bike, and he told me he used a completely stock crank and rods in their top fuel bike, making 600+ hp on nitromethanol at 16,000rpm. That just blew my mind.

Having owned and race both the GSXR-750 and the RGV-250 (I still own one out of the two RGV’s) it’s hard to pick. For everyday use, and weekend fun the 750 wins. But for just weekend fun on the twisties or purely on a race track, the little 250 wins hands down. It’s still amazes me that after 25 years, NOTHING, has been able to put a smile on my face like the old 250c two-stroke...

One of the greats that never hit a GP track, but was a big hit with the public was the VStrom DL1000. Where that big V Duc knockoff finally landed for many years, this bike proved to be able to do it all. The popularity spawned a ton of 3rd-party and factory upgrades that solved some small problems, and made the bike competitive for nearly two decades. Even today, they are still piling on the miles (some have gone 200K!).

Another two Models I fondly remember and had considered buying was the 1971-1977 GT750 (Water Buffalo) and the 1974-1976 RE5 Rotary Engine Powered Suzuki. Randy AKA randog311

'Best bike' is a very subjective term, and all the bikes you feature are good by many measures. But you also mention 'iconic' and in this regard I would say you've missed out a fair number of notable Suzukis and favoured the super sports. You've chosen a bike journo's top ten. If I think of iconic Suzukis loved and cherished to immortality I immediately think T250 Super Six, GT750, RE5, Bandit, and V-Strom.

@@paultanton4307 The thou was sort of a response to the blade, but it came out in 2001 (or 2002), so was about 10 years behind... the GSX-R750W-T (SRAD) was Suzuki's proper response to the 'blade; it was an evil little bastard, really exciting, handled better, had the power (maybe not the torque), but was a bit edgy for some (much like the original 'blade) and didn't have the build quality... No GS1100? It was the bike to own in 1982. And not having the V-Strom is questionable. Suzuki will always be best known for the GSXR, the Hayabusa and the V-Strom.

Hmmm... My list would be Bandit 400, GSXR 600 and 750, Hayabusa, DRZ400, and honorable mention for VStrom. No Katana. Maybe some of the 70s era GS models that earned their reputation for overengineered reliability.

SV650S is still racing and very much a cult following bike... this is in Suzukis top 10... but it's also the most overlooked bike ever as the only ones who really know its prowess are the guys who have tried to keep their front wheel down....

I’ve owned and ridden hard, long and fast for fifty years on many Suzuki motorcycles. My metrics have “evolved” over the years and the last three V-Strom 650’s I’ve owned (over 200 000 kilometers) have provided sufficient evidence to me that it is the “best” Suzuki ever. However, had I employed the performance metrics of my youth, I’d have dismissed the 650 ‘Strom as boring, almost embarrassing. Point being, there’s plenty of room for debate on what constitutes “best” and iconic, and the debate shouldn’t be reduced to the bike itself.

If it was not for the GS750, numbers 1-9 wouldn't even exist. That motorcycle engine saved Suzuki motors from going bankrupt.

Yamaha also made a very good race-replica two-stroke from 1991-1995. The TZR 250 V-Twin was the equal of any of Japan's two stroke 250's of that era. They were all restricted to 45, then 40HP, so there was no fastest, stock 250 2T. The 91-95 TZR's are famous for their handling and brakes.

@@stephenhurst9257 Yes, In stock form, the 91-95 TZR's had been choked off (as did all Japanese 250 2T street bikes). The TZR 3xv can be brought from 40hp to 60hp with a bit of porting (or SP cylinders), a good set of pipes and a Zeeltronics ignition system. Add bigger carbs and TZ cylinders and pistons, 70hp is possible and the bike remains reliable.

Here in NZ Suzuki has always had a huge market share, so much so that in the early 80s, Suzuki built a NZ only (but some did find their way to Aussie and South Africa) very special 1981 1100 Katana, with a load of upgrades over the standard one, lightweight wheels, yoshi cams bigger carbs, exhaust and brakes etc, to race in production bike racing and production endurance races which where very popular down here. It was called the GSX1100SXZ, or the "Wire wheeler" as its known among bikers here, only a small handfull were made.
