You need to have a lot of cover within ur tank, it’ll help bring back their numbers. I had a tank with 100+ red cherry shrimp and I put my betta in there for population control lol. He basically would take out the huge ones that couldn’t hide in time. Or the weak ones. But having lots of plant cover and shrimp also allowed me to keep two males in my tank along w neon tetras. Both males lived for about 4 years until I killed them on accident due to sudden change in temperature in one of my water changes. In regards to Mystery Snails, I WOULD STAAAAY AWAY. Those fuckers reproduce so quickly. SO ONLY GET ONE per tank. I would stick with Nerite only snails if you want multiple/need because they only reproduce in brackish water and you don’t have to clean out snails every week.

I just got a brand new betta for my 5gl my other 2 would terrize the snails but I acclimated the shrimp first let him get used to his new home first then added the betta in and it's working so far

Mine ate the 10 of the 12 neons on the first night! He was fine for hours during the day with them when acclimating the and once released for hours. Zero flaring. Zero chasing That same night I woke up to a nearly empty tank. 😕

I think nerite snails are safer bets than mystery snails. Nerite snails have a lot less vulnerable parts open for attack, so a betta that might strike a few times won’t be able to hurt it. My boy was kinda aggressive towards the snails at first, but he mellowed out once he realized they basically couldn’t perceive him.

Nerite is better if you want multiple snails. The mystery snails reproduce very quickly and can turn into a pest

I have 3 spiny marsh snails, they spend the day cleaning under the substrate and then at night when the lights are off, they go nuts cleaning the top substrate and walls of the tank.

And that is false and makes no sense, they lay eggs like everywhere in the tank especially in the most hidden areas of your tank. Why create work for yourself when you could have something better?

Used to have otocinclus and mystery snails with my betta, snails did so good I had to sell the eggs but the first otocinclus jumped out, second got it's fine bit off, 3 got back half eaten and 4 had to get scraped off side of tank

I find neons can get quite nippy. Cardinal tetras go far better with betta’s and so do white cloud minnows. Even though white clouds are cold water fish, they are really hardy.

Is it okay if I keep my two bristlenose catfish with my two female bettas? I have a few live plants in the tank, Anubias, Amazon swords, and, some other plant I think I forgot the name but I know it’s fine for the all the fish that I have in the tank (Anubias is attached on a big piece of driftwood in the center of the tank) and considering getting more plants eventually, so there’s a fair amount of spaces to create space if needed already. also tips are appreciated

Have you tried seeing if the two female betas get along? with enough space and enough plants to break their line of sight it will be fine. Also depends on how much space they have

@@Khmaistine good to know👍 bought a tank today, 4ft around 200L-300L (was the estimate we got from the seller) and going to start setting it up soon hopefully, it probably won’t be done for a while, also considering that I’m going to do a fish-less cycle, I’d probably wait 2 months for it to cycle for good measure and stuff, I don’t have the females anymore since they ended up dying by a diseased fish, but I’ll probably end up getting a male betta and a fair amount of schooling fish for the tank, including some shrimps and maybe some snails. Not quite sure but that’s basically my plan for when it’s ready, but I might change some things up or something so yeah, not sure what type of plants I’ll use exactly but thinking of definitely Anubis, Salvinia minima, probably some Amazon swords, and some other plants like maybe water wisteria or something, but yeah that’s about it for my reply haha.

For people with experience in keeping bettas with Chilli rasboras, is it ok to have a female betta with ten Chilli rasboras in a ten gallon tank? (It has Amazon sword Java fern along with the floater plants salvinia, red root floaters, Frogbit, dwarf water lettuce) my main concern isn’t filtration, since I have two sponge filters and the many live plants, but my main concern is if most bettas are ok with Chilli rasboras, even if they have more of an aggressive personality, or should I just keep the Chilli rasboras alone?

I wouldn’t recommend guppies as they like to stay in the higher parts of the tank, as well do bettas, and bettas are territorial and will attack guppies. Not only this but guppies also tend to be vibrant and look like bettas to other bettas. If you want tankmates for your betta tetras are the best way to go as they stay closer to the bottom of the tank and out of the bettas way and territory.

⁠​⁠@@jasonmarshall4522at is very abuse lol you need a bigger tank. Neon tetras will grow up to two inches in my experience. The rule is for every inch your fish is you need at least one gallon and you also need to remember to factor their future growth into the gallons. In your case you’ll need at least a 15-20 gallon tank. It’s also WAAAAY less maintenance the bigger the tank you go.
