Love hearing about the thumb. I know I told ya before but it’s getting better and better every year. Fun land to hunt but you are right, if you spook a deer off you can literally watch it run half mile across the fields into the neighbors. Our 60 acre piece is all wooded maybe a total of 20 acres of sapling and thicket. So after the fields are cut they all go to our woods which we are blessed to have it that way👍🏻

Lot of the Ag places here are grown up now. Few bean and corn fields but they’re posted. The older farmers have quit or passed away. This is a great video brother one of your best being very informative.

I’m so impressed with this channel and the information shared on it. I don’t own huntable land but have access to great crown land. Have made so many mistakes over the years, really need to focus on being quieter and thinking more about the over all picture which is another level of hunting for me. Little things I never think of like side of tree for the ladder or how deer can eat 5 times and it can be timed.

great video, I have a video similar to that. My google earth scouting video. I am disabled and I look for small dry islands in swamps here in Maine. Some big bucks bed in those islands sometimes.

O like to look for a history of sign as opposed to only current sign. Combine current and historical sign together and you have an incredible location!

Another outstanding informational video for us guys that can’t get enough!! Was wondering how do get those aerial photos that you can mark up and color code etc? I know this is the time of year you are all over the country consulting and setting up properties. My property is an 80 in northern Wisconsin that is timbered and is essentially a blank slate. I am fortunate that it very diverse with 2 creeks running through it and I believe it has excellent potential but nevertheless is going to be a long process and a lot of work to set up properly. See Jeff that's why I like you man, never ceases to let ya down in these videos, give all different land parcels for the guys like myself that are always looking at land for purchase, so now I know what to look for and what's nice to have on the land. So Jeff I gotta question about the land I purchased last year; its a 10 acres on an old river ridge line, huge old river bed about 200 yards in width with a little creek in the middle that typically dries up mid early season, I was wondering should I put a waterhole at the bottom of my ridge about a 100 yards away from my food plot? or just leave it alone due to the food plot being brassicas and standing soybeans and clover around the edge woodline? Just something I've been thinking about and I'm not sure if it will really impact the deer. On again Jeff thanks again and keep em coming.

Awesome video I've been out looking at different things I want to improve on properties I hunt and found a few things I'd like to do I'm trying not to do to much beacuse I think less might be more with what I'm trying to do but one of my properties I'm trying this year is so thick it has a nice stream and very diverse with food and cover I'm not sure what to do but see deer cross the road out of there durn the day and lots of buck sign thanks for anothe good video

Thank you! I find mature bucks make a lot of rubs and scrapes. BUT, if they are just passing thru...not a lot of sign. That means that morning and mid day hunting is key, for bucks that are cruising long range. I hope that makes sense? Good luck!!

great video one that pertains to my area if I could just keep the pressure out of it. scent wind direction big factors here dosnt matter if you where hunting that afternoon an it's 8:00 pm an your back home in YOU are living room watching tv and a buck walks by looking for doe with his nose on the ground an smells you he's not going to like that cover sent is probably better than nothing but it's not going to work 100%.

With scouting season here i have never worried about scent as i scouted bc iv never had to encounter mature deer i only targeted deer in general but this year iv found places that seem to have 4/5 mature bucks coming through my question is here in the south should i worry about scent control while scouting bedding areas to prevent blowing out mature bucks? Hi Steven great question! I don worry at all with the thought that the beginning of the season for us is so many months away. I look at it that deer have about a 3-4 weeks of forgiveness behavior. After that time passes...things go back to normal. So I don't mind scouting bedding areas up until about a month before the season. Also, mature bucks shouldn't be in those bedding areas until late summer/early February anyways....at least most of the time. But really...I wouldn't worry about leaving scent right now...I hope that helps!

I hunt a 8000 acre lease in wv with around 130 members hunting pressure is high in some areas it mostly hardwoods with several clear or select cuts or older clear cuts thst are grew up.I hunted next too with good success on deer but how would you find these areas void of ag land to find buck bedding what would you look for I get alot of decent bucks on camera but mostly night time or a short window of day time activity around the rut any help would be appreciated

When you’re getting into those bedding area stands in big Ag flat ground with let’s say a hay field to your downwind side are you getting in an hour or so before daylight or still right at grey light just to make sure you don’t bump anything on your way in? Thanks in advance!

I am clearing a place for food plot. I’m south of New Orleans. Flat land.in 2010 it was duck ponds. After the storms they pumped/ dredged mud and sand from the Mississippi River. 6 miles away. Now I have almost all new young trees willows and heavy covering of cat tails. I just started for the first time ever using my bike to make walking trails. This is the first year I started hunting with my grandchildren. The second day in my little one got his first deer a nice 8 pointer.any way my question is what kind of plants do you recommend. I would like to use several different types. I have cleared a area and don’t know if I should plant anything now or not?????..

Drake...that's a really tough one! In personally plant everything mid to late Summer, with a carry over into the Winter months. Annual clovers and a heavy dose of greens...but your area is so different than up north where I am at. I like attracting, holding and building a quality herd and hunt during the hunting season. I believe the hunting season food sources hit the most critical, herd and hunt building periods of the season. So my goal is to leak during the peak of the season...which is also a time of local declining habitat forage value. Hope that helps a little? Same concepts though...

Hi, I view all ur videos. I recently moved to Pittsburgh from GB. Can you point me in the right direction for PL in PA? All the PL has cut trails which makes for easy walking and a ton of pressure. How can I find honey holes in places that get drove on the first day of gun. I've hunted PL in the UP, northern WI, WV. None of which has these cut trails through it all. I can get into spots and wait, but I can't hunt everyday. Bow hunting I'm alright, because pressure isnt as bad. But gun is very hard on PA PL. Especially for a mature buck. Any tips would be great. Hi Cody...a lot different than GB for sure! I have only hunted up north near Bradford. BIG woods...yes trails, but most don't walk an hour in...or a 1/2 hour and then cut up into the tops another 1/2 hour. The area I hunt is at least 3 miles by 10 miles...yes trails within but typically less than 30 trucks on opening day around that entire chunk. I hunt along the reservoir. Not a lot of deer but I can get away from people... Hope that helps and thanks a lot for watching!

Thanks. I will try getting up into big woods where people are more scarce. I like sitting down on bottoms because I feel most people are up on the tops. Patterning deer is basically impossible during gun season. I just hope to get in earlier than anyone and sit on the escape routes. Difficult to say the least. Thanks for the advice.

I noticed that there were some fresh rubs in the snow in January after season. I wonder if the buck just came through or maybe marked some new territory. All that was in there during season were small bucks. There is no way one of those bucks made those runs. I know it’s not 100% fail proof but the buck that made those runs was a “ biggen “. Wonder if he was just passing through during late December early January or if he may have marked some new territory? I’ve got some cams out close to where it was. We shall see what kind of pics I get. If a mature buck has taken over this place it would be great because nobody ever hints that way too much.

Hi Corey! Diane emailed you this morning...we get a lot of emails but we have a real focus on MI and WI...she isn't sure how yours slipped through the cracks... hopefully it hasn't been too long! I don't schedule client visits in the Fall...that's more hunting, book writing, video and article writing time. Close to home. In MI I visit in early February (on a 10 day trip in MI right now), April, June and August. Pretty set travel schedule for MI where we schedule typically a few months to a year in advance. Diane has the dates...I'm not allowed to have the "master calendar" lol.

Whitetail Habitat Solutions ...80 acre regrowth monoculture of aspen from a clearcut in 1981, what do I do with it? Only thing I can think of is year after year select cut at ground level and just leave the trees lay all throughout the section...any thoughts? @@brandonmutchler770 really good daytime food value...aspen regen! You want to clear-cut Aspen...pockets, and you can rotate those pockets to fit within the whitetail movement. Also you can mow trails down to move deer between pockets...between food sources, etc. I hope that helps Brandon!
