In YuGiOh, one of the common ways to win is by diminishing your opponent’s life points to zero. The most effective way to do this is with battle damage from monsters. Over the course of YuGiOh there have been a bunch of ways to prevent this from happening. This list will dive into some of the best cards to prevent your opponent’s monsters from attacking in one way, shape or form.

I unironically love Scrap-Iron Scarecrow. I’ve used it in a few of my decks, and it’s saved me on quite a few occasions. The most memorable of which was when my opponent brought out a power-bonded Cyber End Dragon, I flipped the Scarecrow, stopped the attack, and they took the 4000 recoil damage. Then I proceeded to fusion summon Performapal Gatlinghoul next turn, gunned the dragon down, and wiped out their remaining life points!

Dude I remember doing the same thing in around 2006 just a little differently: Opponent Power Bond summons Cyber End Dragon, activates Limiter Removal and attacks into a Set monster for game... then I activate Kuriboh and he loses Cyber End Dragon and 4000 LP at the end of the turn. xD When a single Kuriboh makes your opponent go around -4 in card advantage... good times. (Seriously though my opponent's starting hand was something like Heavy Storm, Cyber Dragon, Cyber Dragon, Cyber Dragon, Power Bond, Limiter Removal - what the heck.)

I had an idea. The top 10 cards of a certain year, starting from the beginning. It would give a good idea and emphasis on how the meta was at the time to new and old players alike, while showing how the game shifted. For example: Top 10 cards of 2002. Top 10 cards of 2003. Top 10 cards of 2004. Etc. This also adds variety to the videos as it helps with the power creep that makes once powerful cards irrelevant. We can see how the meta shifted and how cards like Cyber Dragon popping up on the scene ended up changing things.
@lucaskendysilva1552
@lucaskendysilva1552 Жыл бұрын
I think this is a great idea! However, I believe that would make for very long series of videos. Instead, what about a series of "best cards of each master rule" or maybe "best cards from each five years"? I think that would serve the same purpose as you suggested, but would make the videos even more entertaining and purposeful.
@InfiniteTranscendence
@InfiniteTranscendence Жыл бұрын
@@lucaskendysilva1552 That isn't a bad idea either. I wasn't expecting him to do them all at the same time, but rather alternating a bit like he did with the banned cards list. I think with each Master Rule you would only get a few cards which would make it hard for people to understand the history of the game. You would just see the same old cards we always see on the list and I thought it would be interesting to see some older stuff that was viable at one point. Another channel did an amazing video on Yu Gi Oh's early history and I think Duel Logs would be perfect for narrating it. It's interesting seeing how the game changed so much over the years and I think it would encapsulate it well. Just my opinion though. Thanks for your response!
@lucaskendysilva1552
@lucaskendysilva1552 Жыл бұрын
Now that you said it, yes I agree that making by game rule would be "more of the same", since we would probably be seeing same cards we already see very often on other top 10. Indeed, I now agree with you that making them by year would be the best way, but I still think the time frames could be a little longer (maybe "best out of 3 years"), so that the audience also does not get tired of the videos. Anyways, thanks for the opinions and the politeness! Let's hope duellogs maybe see our comments and consider our ideas. Have a great weekend ahead!
@InfiniteTranscendence

@@lucaskendysilva1552 No problem! The pleasure is mine! That's why I was saying not to make all of the videos back to back. He could do like one year every couple of weeks or something as I have no doubt he would need time to research and make the material anyways. He spent about a year working on the banned list series while doing other videos. That's basically what I had in mind if that makes sense. Have a good weekend!

By the way, Yugi in the anime definitely used Sword of Revealing Light for its stalling ability, the pattern was for him to hope to draw into an answer to the opponent board and usually getting on the third turn (a variation of his "heart of the card" bit that had some success in making it feel more fair and earned since it took him some actual digging and strategy to get more cards instead of just his one draw for turn).

It'd be interesting if there was another Swords of Revealing Light retrain where it could do something like prevent attacks for two turns, and in exchange it was a lingering effect instead of the card having to stay on the field to keep the effect going.

Funnily an interesting card that could've made this list is The Golden Swordsoul. From the Albaz structure, it may not be played in Branded or Swordsoul, but it's actually generically a pretty decent attack negater, stopping an attack and summoning itself from the hand, then having a few additional effects if you're playing it in Swordsoul or Branded. But in general, it's a 4* Tuner with a decent statline, so it's not bad to have on field.

I personally feel that Phantom Knights' Fog Blade is one of the best trap cards that can be used to stop attacks. Yes, you need a single monster on your field to activate for stalling, but it doesn't require a direct attack to activate. It does come with a downside of negating monster effects too, but you could use that effect of the card to your advantage... giving the card some versatility. Say your opponent has a card immune to destruction through its' effect, but doesn't possess targeting immunity (from spell/trap and/or any), then you can put the card on your opponent's card and then pop it. The only thing you can't use the card for is getting past battle destruction immunity since neither player can target the card for attacks.

Maybe not related to the list, but in the Anime, Joey used a trap called Celebration of Creation that has the effect to end the current turn immediately if a monster was special summoned by card effect. Do you think it will be good if it would be released?

Favorites are “scrap iron scarecrow” and one that was not mentioned“Atraffic Control” scrap iron can protect from 1 attack and Atraffic is amazing as long as your opponent has 3ormore monsters he can not attack and with many deck swarming the field having more than one is almost guaranteed

Have you done a "Top 10 Cards that get Screwed by Card Rulings/Wording/Game Mechanics?" lol It could be a fun topic to talk about a variety of cards and situations. I remember the first time I use Photon Veil to add three Watapon to my hand just to find out I can only summon one of them with their effect 😱 I had no idea there was a rule you can only activate one card effect in hand at once. This topic could apply to SO many "when" effect cards but if you could find more things like XYZ material not leaving the field so Tour Guide + Sangan isn't broke, or Dark Worlds discard effects not working with costs. I remember as a kid thinking any time a card was sent to the GY it was "Destroyed" so when I would tribute like Troop Dragon for a tribute Summon I thought I got another copy... not sure that's relevant lol, but yeah wording, random card rulings, timing stuff... this game can seem SO much more complicated than it has to be sometimes.

I'm a little surprised Negate Attack didn't make the list. While it shares a lot of the weaknesses of other battle cards on the list, being a Counter Trap gives it a few strengths over those. Such as being Spell Speed 3, meaning it can't be chained except with another Counter Trap. Additionally, being a counter trap, it works with the Counter Fairy archetype to proc many effects.
@TWLSpark
@TWLSpark Жыл бұрын
Probably got buried under all the - other - better battle traps in the top. Negate Attack would probably make a top 15, but a top 10 sounds a bit tight for it to make it.
@nicolaistuhlmuller8718
@nicolaistuhlmuller8718 Жыл бұрын
Because while it has these two slight advantages over threatening roar (can only be negated by other counter traps and synergizes with counter trap support) that's not worth its biggest downside: it can only be activated during the battle phase. Threatening Roar or even Waboku can be activated at any time and can even be chained to their own destruction, meaning if an opponent activates a spell/trap removal during their main phase, you can actually chain a Waboku or Threatening Roar to still stop all attacks for that turn, something that Negate Attack can't do.
@azuredragoon2054

@@TWLSpark I feel like Negate Attack should have been somewhere between Swords of Revealing Light and Mirror Force. Probably overall tying with Scrap Iron.

If Mystic Mine's effect to destroy itself was actually based on number of cards on the field as he is saying, it would not be nearly as annoying. In fact you have to control the same number of monsters specifically, and most decks can't destroy their own monsters.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Waboku alongside Threatening Roar or something. Waboku didn't technically prevent battle, but it did protect your monsters and your life points from battle for the entire turn, so it was very similar to Threatening Roar, though it could be activated once battle had already begun. (Also, if two monsters with equal Attack battle, the Waboku user's monster would survive, while the opponent's would still die.)

I use Waboku in Dueling Nexus. Very underrated card. I use to use it a ton back in the day. It's old but gold. Still highly effective. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's still isn't good. I hate how people just forget about these cards because they are older.
