@Harry Eisermann I'm not quite at $3K and actually add to my savings a little every month. Tourist VISA costs nothing unless you want to register your vehicles here and be a temporary resident. Then about $200/yr renewable annually, I think. I normally travel a lot but since Americans can't cross European borders I'm stuck in Serbia until things change.
@europeon2wheels894 жыл бұрын
@Harry Eisermann Somebody's not well informed. Must be you as you're trying to convince me I can't do what I've already done. But clearly you're dumber than dirt. I guess you bring Germany into the discussion in order to muddy up what is crystal clear because I never mentioned Germany and haven't been there since a 1976 Reforger exercise with the US Army. I don't need to be informed. I'm living it. I am an American, 69 and lived in Portugal from 2007 until 2017. Portugal is in the EU. Was brought from the US to work for the Portuguese government, paid taxes, retired in 2013 and lived on a temporary residence visa renewable every 2 years. The government (my employer) took care of and paid for all that in addition to my plane ticket to Portugal. I had a Serbian friend I worked with in Nigeria around 2004-2005 that I contacted about moving to Serbia. In 2017 I drove over for an exploratory trip, liked it so I began moving. In Sept I drove back to Portugal. Rode the Harley over in Oct. Jan 2018 took a train to Portugal, picked up my car and drove back. This is going to be very hard for you to comprehend so I'll type slowly. Serbia IS NOT A MEMBER OF THE EU so EU rules have no bearing on what Serbia does. I've been living here on a tourist visa for the past 3 years. I ride the Harley around southern Europe a lot (129,002 miles yesterday, pic on Instagram), like to travel and make certain I leave Serbia within the 90 days returning anytime between a few days to a few weeks later. Leave and you get stamped out. Return, get stamped in and the 90 days restarts new. I'm expecting within the next two months to start the process to get a long stay visa renewable every year or two. Got it? Now, go away and bother someone else. You need more clarification? Go to my KZbin channel (EuropeOn2Wheels), Instagram (europeon2wheels) or website EuropeOn2wheels.com (expect completion by 18 July).

Well, this is misleading...like absolutely... in Slovakia (Bratislava) there are prices of food, services and actually everything like in Austria... but the salaries here are like 3 times lower The Czech republic is super expensive for slovak people. In Slovakia is the average salary about 800€ (and that´s with all the ministeries...) in smaller cities and towns, people gain like 450-600€ per month. Even in the capital there are tons of people gaining less then the average. there are people living out of 650 or 700€ despite the fact the average rent for a flat is about 400-500 € (and more). A lot of people have to live out of 200€/month and yes, if you come to the food court in the shopping centre where you are workig, the cost of launch is 5-8€. But you have only 200€ to spend for a month!!!! So yes, Slovakia is cheap for visitors (which can be gaining 2000 or 3000€), but living out from the salaries in here, is noting but a big miracle
@dunno11284 жыл бұрын
Definitely agree, people tend to forget that evaluate a cheap country or expensive country is not only about expenses but much more a ratio of incomes and expenses. Slovakia is an expensive country comparing local expenses and incomes average. Austria is a cheap country to live in while comparing the incomes and the expenses...

Belarus: It is a Russian Speaking country with very rigid Laws and Mores that are unsuitable for Liberal Western people. You can end up in jail and stay there for ever. Furthermore, the Climate is unbearably severe. Winters are very hard to tolerate due to non available modern climate control. General attitude is 'hibernation'...Most people are xenophobic and don't like Americans. Of course, there is a tiny upper-crust that lives a great life and they do not like change. Who would? Your estimates are way down than reality. Czech Republic was, not any more ... streamlining to European Union Standards has made it expensive and the cost of living is rising all the time ...even the beer has become expensive .. Georgia has the most difficult language to learn and be proficient. Yes, it is still a great place to live, at least, for a while. For how long? Nobody knows. Your forgot Armenia. That is really really a great place for an English Speaking person. Lady you are truly living in a cuckoo land. America is the least expensive country for ordinary people to earn a decent living, except Healthcare and Education, both stink. The Healthcare Cost in a European Union Country for a Non European Union Member is much higher than the US.Dental Care is very Expensive. Fighting Authorities is well neigh impossible ... You must do your homework and do not beguile your audience. All these countries have very difficult languages for an English Speaking person. I have lived and worked in all these countries. Believe you me, life for ordinary expat is not that easy. The locals expect every expat to be rich. When they find out it is no so, they turn on .... So, please stop giving them false hopes ...

It took us more than a year (2002 to 2003). All 4 of us had Diplomatic Immunity to ease our transition of borders and not become victims of local Police. The hardest part was to get authentic information. It was either not there or so distorted that to make any head or tail was well neigh impossible. All of us took turns to share the chores. As it was a highly classified project we could not publish anything without clearances. That were hard to come by. We were a Swede, German, Brit and Dutch. Our working language was English. We visited the surrounding countries for comparison. Armenia was the most agreeable country for all of us. The rest were all right until we started 'talking' ...trying to gather information. Would I relocate to any: NOPE ...due to very poor and expensive Healthcare Facilities ...I am retired. I wish to live in peace and quiet without any hassle of living in London. I am trying to find a place to spend my autumn years in tranquility that became the reason to view this video. It was not helpful.

@@globalman Actually you're both right. First wave were the immigrants from richer European countries sweeping into Portugal when things were really cheap due to opening of the borders coming with the EU. That pushed many home/land prices out of reach of young Portuguese. More recently (last 5-6 years) is the aggressive approach of the government trying to attract retirees from other countries. Latvian here. It is relatively cheap to live here compared to Europe, but the salaries are quite bad and % wise Rigas is expensive AF. You will earn 700-1000euros (minimum wage 430eur) here, and more than half of it will got to rent and bills. Do the math. Cars, electronics and clothing are priced as in Europe. So you will pay the same for smartphones, tv, new trousers as in Germany. Except that our minimum wage is almost 4x lower than in DE :D If you are working in IT sector, then the salary is reasonable.
