Sebastian, a question for you. I like Vetiver a lot (e.g. Encre Noire, Terre D'Hermes, Tom Ford's Gray Vetiver), but I have checked Guerlain's Vetiver, that is one I don't like because it reminds me of something dentists use ("alginate".) Don't get me wrong, alginate smells pretty nice, but it has this medicinal connotation that is offputting for me. I wonder if you have ever smelled alginate, and if you catch something similar to it in Guerlain's Vetiver.

Everyone has odd associations with certain fragrances. This is such a subjective hobby so we should be respectful of one another of liking and hating certain fragrances. LOL! ;)

@@ThePerfumeGuy Definitely, truly did not mean any disrespect. Turns out my brother is a dentist. While he studied I got used to the smell of alginate, so indeed it's a personal association I have. Maybe the note is not even there, I'm not sure, but Guerlain's Vetiver definitely reminds me of it, while other Vetiver fragrances do not.

@@ThePerfumeGuy It's probably our own brains and not the things we are smelling :) Given your own biographical video where you described your childhood smelling everything on the detergent sections in supermarkets :) I'd suggest to try to check out the smell of alginate if you have not yet. It is really particular and very nice, only for me rather medicinal though.

GUERLAIN VETIVER is too weak to be totally truthful lol, I ordered, sprayed half the bottle in a weak. Nobody can smell, and it doesn’t last in heat, or in too cold weather either. It’s very very weak, as it’s been heavily reformulated, with perhaps 1.5 percent of it containing true VETIVER oil. It is thumbs down 👎🏽

Thank you Sebastian...My favorite Vetivers presently are all three Encre Noire's and TF Grey Vetiver. Two more enjoyable Vetivers in the $25 price range are Karl Lagerfeld Bois De Vetiver as well as Ferrari Vetiver Essence. Lalique's Encre Noire offerings are still the superior choice for the price, but I do enjoy wearing KL Bois de Vetiver on an early morning walk on a Spring day.

Guerlain Vetiver is probably the Fragrance that I've worn since 1980 and still love it. I've seen the bottle change at least twice. Vetiver Extraordinaire is my present favorite.

You really must try Adolfo Dominques vetiver terra One off the nicest vetiver fragrance ever Always loved Guerlain before remastered but this is so much better. Really recommend it❤️👍👌

Recently bought a sample of Guerlain Vetiver and am falling in love with it. Vetiver Bourbon iby Monotheme Base notes are: Sandalwood, Oakmoss. Middle notes are: Vetiver and Neroli. Top notes are: Artmesia, Coriander Lemon and Bergamott it is ,my favourite. Monotheme is an Italian brand established in Venice. Each fragrance is built around a dominant unique raw material, hence the name Monotheme..You may like the Classic Patchouli Leaves Pour Homme which could be used in combination with the Vitiver. I buy mine for £18 which is $23 from M&S in the UK.

Grey Vetiver smells very corporate and almost like bug spray to me--Mon Vetiver is much more handsome and wearable to me! Reminds me of Bal D'Afrique but with a tad more darkness. Fantastic price for the work of a renowned perfumer--Bruno Jovanovic

Nice list, Guerlain & Lalique's offerings are favorites. Another that is often overlooked is Prada Infusion de Vetiver, which is an easy to wear, but still interesting take on the vetiver note.

Diptyque vetyverio is a reaally nice scent that blends the light notes of vetiver but with the projection that we love from most diptyque fragrances. It's kinda different but it reminds me of my loved one and me sharing a great time in the holiday time at the sea side. Even though it is not salty, with the salty breeze of the sea hitting you, I consider vetyverio to be one of the best.

Great recommendations! I love the 3 Encre Noires. Have you tried Giallo Elicrisio by Acca Kappa? It combines vetiver with citron and herby floral notes. It's a light effervescent vetiver and is reasonably priced as well. I also love Diptyque's Vetyverio. More of such videos! Good job!

I found Gentleman Givenchy to have similarities to the Tom Ford grey vetiver and I love both the scents. Vetiver isn't a listed note on fragrantica for gentleman Givenchy but I remember finding vetiver listed on the back of the bottle from my previous visit to Sephora (I might be wrong).

Carven Vetiver (2014 version) is quite nice, but doesn't get much respect. To be honest, it's very similar to the original...but with the added note of lemongrass, which I love, but can ruin the blend for others. Carven Le Vetiver is also quite a solid fragrances...much like the original 1950s version, and it was dirt cheap 3 or 4 years ago and I picked-up several bottles for the $22 range. Sadly, it was discontinued and I see it for 3-4 times the price on eBay. Enjoyed.

Nothing can touch L'Extreme for the price. Like a few in the mid-price tier too like Bel Ami Vet., TDH Vet., & Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum (2012) but all a bit more $$.

Thanks for the video!! I’m happy to know of some great vetiver options especially Guerlain Vetiver Extreme. In fact I would definitely love to see a video of “best tarragon fragrances.” It’s actually my favorite note in fragrance. Green, herbal, sweet and slight licorice type smell. I actually don’t really like licorice but I still love tarragon! In particular I really love Mandarino Di Amalfi which has a great mix of basil, tarragon and mint. Again thanks for giving me some fragrances to try!

BATCH 2018 I'm just smelling on my right hand and on the left I put a 2016 BATCH and with great regret I have to say the difference is huge. Like the original ie Encre Noir, this one has undergone a reformulation and this is no longer good staff. Encre Noire A L'Extreme was the best of the whole line and all three are dear to me, but now this L'Extreme is Extreme in name only because it smells not like a weaker version of itself but like a watered down version of the black or original Encre Noir and it's that's just talking about the scent itself, it is also bad news for durability and projection. Yesterday I burst over 10 sprays in 2 occasions and went home after an hour and a half, my wife waited for me at the door (she was at work and couldn't smell me before) and didn't comment or said anything as she usually does, so I asked how I smell? She said I don't smell anything so than she came up to my neck and then she just barely smelled something. Let's say when I get up around 11 I know she stole my Prada Luna Rosa Black because I feel like the whole house smells and she doesn't put more than 2 sprays and this miracle Encre Noire A L'Extreme used to last all day long with good projection but today I don't know what to say because I'm way too much disappointed. Here's to all the people that love this scent, pay attention to which batch you buy, if there are older batches buy it on time. To finish I'll quote Ordell from Jackie Brown "What the fuck happened to you, man? Your ass used to be beautiful."
