The One in Toronto has just applied for a height extension from 82 to 94 floors. Which recently got approved. Also, there's 2 more supertalls in the same area (one is in construction as i type this) at the bottom of Yonge street that will alter the skyline forever. They too have applied for height extensions going from the previous 90 floors to a new record breaking height of 104. Making the one under construction the first 100 storie building in Canada. The second one will go from 80 to 94 floors. There's also a lot of supertalls that have been approved but havent started construction yet. I would love to see a video made on these projects!

I've been visiting Toronto regularly since the mid 1980's. The city has changed SO much, as has the traffic. Back then there were dozens of lanes that were virtually empty most of the time. Today traffic is between slow and awful much of the time and there simply is not way to build more roads. Thankfully public transport has been undergoing major expansions as well. If you are heading into town from the West, the most logical thing is to leave your car in Burlington an take the Go Train. Maybe we'll actually have a link to Buffalo at some point in the future so we don't have to drive half way there. The downtown sky line has been absolutely transformed. Back in the early 80's, the CN towner appeared to be in the middle of nowhere. It was hard to get to on-foot. Now the city has absolutely exploded in growth around that area and it's now surrounded by dozens and dozens of tall residential towers. I still love visiting. I'll be keeping an eye on the sky for the new Super-Tall buildings being built.

Yeah it won't be conplete in 2024 but this year marks the kick-start of the massive acceleration of Paris "transit-a-palooza" madness. This last decade, or decade and a half, saw mostly tramway expansions with a dozen new tram lines (the 2 last ones opened last summer and less than a month ago) and a few metro extensions (on M4, M12, M14). In 2024 that's 30 kilometers of new underground extensions, plus a few on the surface, on 4 different lines : M11's Eastern extension towards the current RER E and future M15 Rosny Bois Perrier interchange. M14's short Northern and large Southern extensions respectively to Saint-Denis Pleyel (GPE's main and North hub station) and to Orly airport. Both are important parts of the Grand Paris Express and the very first sections to open, which is a huge event. There's also the first phase of RER E's Western extension, with a 8km long tunnel under hyperdense central Paris and La Défense business district, 3 new big interchange stations, 2 of them being underground architectural marvels carrying on Paris RER tradition and love affair with huge cavernous underground cathedrals. And finally, circular tram line T3b being extended again to further advance the still incomplete tramway loop around the edge of Paris core. It will also serve one of the new RER E stations. All this is set to open in spring 2024, parts of it (22 or 23 out of the 30+ kilometers of new underground infrastructure) are the very first bits of the Grand Paris Express and altogether these various extended parts represent a capacity increase of at least 1+ million riders a day. Plus, they are true construction engineering and infrastructure developments, more than the river opening ceremony anyway. The Western extension of RER E isn't even part of GPE but is a major event : it is the first real significant RER extension in a quarter of a century. Stuffing the entire GPE in one video would be difficult anyway, given the size and scope of the project, the number of lines, stations and different designs, it would be far too much to fit in one video, or even in one video per line. It would however be easier to fit in videos for each stage opening : 14 new stations (6 on M11, 8 on M14) as part of GPE in 2024. 16 new stations in 2025 on M15 South... Given the video shows the major infrastructure events of 2024, this huge multi opening surely misses from the list.

There's one major point about Paris that was left out : Transit ! In 2024, there are 4 important public transportation expansions set to open : The very first sections of the Grand Paris Express project, a humongous metro expansion. The 6 km Eastern extension of M11 towards Rosny Bois Perrier interchange station connecting with RER E and future M15 circular metro line (South section of M15 set to open in 2025). The short Northern (2.3km) and large Southern (14+ km) extensions of M14, the core backbone line of the GPE, up to the GPE's main hub station in the North, which is Saint-Denis Pleyel, and to Orly airport (Paris second one) in the South. Plus the first phase of the very large Western extension of RER E with 3 new major interchange stations along a new 8km long deep tunnel under the hyperdense core of Paris and La Défense business district: Porte Maillot / Neuilly station, a huge trapezoidal underground light-well under a skylight ground-roof and lined by rows of caged escalators. La Défense CNIT station, a giant cavernous underground cathedral that was built "like a mole" under the still functioning CNIT expo center by extending its foundations and creating a huge cavern underneath. During construction it looked a bit like Tokyo's flood reservoirs with its giant pillars. Nanterre la Folie station, a large, mostly open-air station built in a trench and partially covered by buildings. It will act as a partial terminus for some trains and thus has 6 or 7 tracks if I recall correctly. The new underground stations are gorgeous and continue on the "giant cavernous underground cathedral" legacy of Paris RER stations. The rest of the Western extension towards the far flung suburbs of the West will open later. And finally, the circular tramway line T3b's extension from Porte d'Asnières to Porte Dauphine, further advancing the still incomplete loop. It will serve Porte Maillot / Neuilly interchange and connect there with M1 and RER C & E. All opening in spring 2024, that's about 30 kilometers of new underground extensions plus a few others on the surface that are expected to increase capacity by at least 1+ million riders per day. Strange to not mention these as they truly are major construction engineering / infrastructure developments. They represent the first milestone and kick-start the massive acceleration of the Paris "transit-a-palooza" madness. (After a decade of mostly tramway lines, a dozen of them opening left and right, plus a few metro extensions, now comes the big and heavy stuff). Very interesting video as always, and happy new year Fred!

@KyrilPG11 ай бұрын
@@floschy_1 I'm going to lobby the GPE authorities for them to contact and invite Fred to do a thorough tour (or multiple tours) of the current and future developments. There are building sites by the hundreds and some are quite something to see. So that he can have plenty of footage and lots to talk about. Plus there are some interesting techniques, like ground hard freezing for unstable watery soil, already used more than a century ago for M4 with a lot more rudimentary equipment. Though we are past this point in the current major building phase as all TBM's have finished and are on pause (the 100+ kilometer milestone of tunnels was passed this summer, ending the first major digging phase) and stations of this phase are in various stages of finishing. The next major building / digging phase will start mid 2024 / mid 2025, with 2 dozen TBM's going back underground to dig the 80 something kilometers left of tunnels to be built. This project is like Crossrail power 10 with so much to see and talk about. Sadly, with much less media coverage. I'm dying for a GPE counterpart to BBC's "The fifteen billion pound railway", but nothing in sight yet... RER E's Western extension, although not part of GPE, would have been very interesting too, especially La Défense CNIT station, with its specific "mole" techniques through an underground car park due to the site lacking vertical access, the CNIT's foundations' extension, the huge cavern digging, etc. Same for the tunnel's access near Haussmann Saint-Lazare station, they had to reach the site laterally from a hole dug several streets away. And very few, very limited coverage of this, except the few videos from the building team which gave pretty generic and overly simplified info. These projects need Fred / The B1M quality videos!
@scottn204611 ай бұрын
It got a mention in the Sydney Metro section. But any top 10 will miss important projects. I'm guessing the list was a mix of 'what video do we already have', and mix of locations (Paris, Sydney, Taiwan, Toronto ..) and type (Metro, Sport stadia, skyscrapers ..). There were already two Paris projects and two other Metro Projects. Though I guess a mention in the general Paris section along with the water treatment facility and Notre Dame would have worked nicely.
