I've never been in the US, but I fell in love with country music when I spent some months living with my sister who was married to an american military in Germany and she introduced me to a friend by the name of John Lynch from Colorado who used to wear cowboy hat and boots. He bought me a couple of cassettes at the army commissary and took me to a place where there were pretty german girls dancing country music and told one of them to teach me how to dance, and God! I've totally got stuck to country music forever, and I'm panamanian and I can tell you, lots of people in Latin America love country music. Greetings from Panama.

When I was thumbing from Montgomery I had my guitar on my back When a stranger stopped beside me in an antique Cadillac He was dressed like 1950 Half drunk and hollow eyed He said it's a long walk to Nashville Would you like a ride? Son Well, I sat down in the front seat He turned on the radio And them sad old songs coming outta them speakers was solid country gold Then I noticed the stranger was ghost white pale When I asked him for a light And I knew there was something strange about this ride He said, "Mister, can you make folks cry when you play and sing? Have you paid your dues? Can you moan the blues? Can you bend them guitar strings?" He said, "Boy, can you make folks feel what you feel inside? 'Cause if you're big star bound let me warn you it's a long hard ride"

Wait a gosh darn minute. Last week you guys did the "Top ten Johnny Cash Songs." and "I Walk the Line" was #1 and "Ring of Fire" was #2. Now ROF is the #1 country song of all time? Did you forget your own list from just last week?
@WatchMojo
@WatchMojo 10 жыл бұрын
It's called being objective and it boils down to the criteria. Recall we went with Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven in Top 10 Iconic Rock Songs , yet didn't choose that as Led Zep's top song in Top 10 Led Zeppelin Songs . So, we think it works as is for similar reasons. If we're talking what the best Johnny Cash songs are, things that really say who and what Cash is then Walk the Line would have to be the top spot. It's the one that really gave him the career and the sound. If we're talking best country then we Think Ring of Fire does top it. It's more innovative, lively and a bit more modern. We think Walk the Line instantly goes to a certain artist and era, Ring of Fire is more in tune to the shape of the genre.
@joshjhutton
@joshjhutton 10 жыл бұрын
I understand that there is a difference in theory, but in reality there is very little that can be differentiated between the two and most people won't get that you are making a distinction between a "top ten song" and a top ten iconic song". Its all the same in the minds of your average youtube viewer. Anyhow, I love your top ten lists so keep em coming. And while I have your attention, let me suggests a video. How about a top ten Disney Sidekicks.

+Brian Williams - there is a lot of truth to that statement, but I think that depends on the artist... Johnny Cash was the youngest person ever to be inducted into the country music hall of fame, and the ONLY person ever living or dead to be inducted into all three hall of fame's "songwriters, rock n' roll, and country music- and all of that happened while he was still ALIVE also. George Jones was given just about every award on Earth all while he was still living... Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson have been awarded a slew of achievement awards in the last few decades and both are still breathing to this day... Some people think old Hank Jr. doesn't get the recognition he deserves because he is more of a non-conformist... an outlaw... but all of those people that I just mentioned were all non-conformist outlaw types. If you told any one of those people how to perform their music or what songs they should sing, they would have shown you how to fit a foot up your ass then do what they wanted to do anyhow! I think Hank Jr. deserves more than he get's... but like you said- they will probably only take notice when he is unfortunately not around anymore. Seems like in this fast paced world people never really notice what they have until its GONE.

Chorrell Klaverweide I have several favorites I could list, but that does not mean they should make an all-time top ten list. For the most part, I thought they hit on some correct choices. However, as I see it, it is just nearly impossible to come up with a definitive all-time top ten. There have been basically thousands of great country music songs over the past sixty years.. :-] By the way, your picture is a little hard to see, but from what I do see, I like.. :-]

Country music has always been looking at the blue side of life, and one of my favorites has been Hank Williams' " Love Sick Blues".

I like the songs on your list, but I do like to add a few more songs that I love to hear on the radio playing on country music stations all across USA. David Allan Coe "You don't call me by my name", Hank Williams "Jambalaya", Hank Williams Jr. "Dixie on my mind", Dolly Parton "Jolene", Confederate Railroad "Trashy women", Allen Jackson "Don't Rock The Jukebox", Allen Jackson "Midnight in Montgomery", "Livin' on love", Glen Campbell "Rhinestone Cowboy", Jerry Reed "South bound and down", Bellamy Brothers "Let your love flow" "If I said that you have a beautiful body would you hold it against me" Lee Ann Womack "A little past Little Rock" Lee Ann Womack " I hope you dance", Amy Grant "I will remember you", John Denver "Country Roads", Lynn Anderson "Never promised you a rose garden", Dwight Yoakam "Guitars, Cadillacs" Blackfoot "Train train", Lynyrd Skynyrd "Free Bird", "Tuesdays gone" "Gimme steps Mr." Marshal Tucker "This ole cowboy" "Ramblin", "24 hours at a time" toby Keith "Should've been a Cowboy", George Strait "Troubadour" the list goes on, but for now I will stop. A shout out to WZZK out in Birmingham, AL.
