I used my Crop A Dile a ton with girl scouts and punching holes in all kinds of materials. While it lives in my scraproom, I rarely use it for scraping but it does get used around the house.

I bet teachers get some mileage out of those things too! I just find it too bulky for a hole punch, you know?

Laura, it was very interesting to see your top 10 ‘I regret buying’ items. I only have two items on your list, the first being the big, clunky punches. I purchased them at a closing down sale over 3 and a half years ago. One of them is so hard to squeeze that I have to use my foot to push it down! A real pain so it put me off them I should persist. I believe tin foil can be used to sharpen it up. The second is the circle cutter which I haven’t used yet and have put in a “safe” place - that means I can’t remember where I have put it! So I don’t know if I like and will use it yet. I will be sorting out my scrapbooking room later this year and will do a top 10 regret list then. I know it will help me plan better with regard to future purchases. A fun video so I look forward to seeing your top 10 favs. Tfs. Rebecca

Thank you, Rebecca! Oh yes, those big, giant punches are a pain! I've tasked myself with the challenge, if I don't use it at all this year, it's gone!

I have the same circle cutter, never liked it and had the same problems. I have the cropodile and the giant Cropadile I received as a gift. Not real fond of either as I can never get the eyelets to set properly. I do love my Sissix embossing machime though, and love to make cards.

I think the embosser is great if you're an avid card maker! I tend to do really quick cards and not add extra steps to them. You know what? Now that you say that about the cropodile, you're right! I've never been able to set an eyelet properly either! Maybe that's why I gave up on them.

I've been scrapbooking for 20 years and the only tool I have that you showed is the crop a file.. I rarely ever used it... However my husband used it all the time to put new holes in his belts! I do use it more now to punch holes in multiple pieces of paper/ card stock at one time. I would rather spend my hard earned money on paper collections which I use not only to scrapbook but also make cards.

Same here, Anne! I've been scrapping since high school, 20 years this year! I think most of these tools were gifts because they were rather pricey and not something I would have purchased for myself (you know when family asks you to "make a list"). The crop a dile was something I bought myself out of curiosity and it's just so bulky!

Very similar! I bought several of those we r memory keepers HUGE lucky 8 punches. They take up an awful amount of space, were crazy expensive and I've only used them a handful of times. Worst investment ever! I also bought the laminator as well instead of the minc machine. I would have really regretted the minc purchase, and while I don't use the laminator much for crafting like I intended, we actually use it quite a bit with household purposes. My older kids have used it to make gifts for the younger ones. So I'm pleased with that purchase, it has been much less expensive than having the things professionally laminated.

Yes! Those giant punches were my way of avoiding buying a big die cutter, but they just aren't practical! I think sometimes we take DIY a little too far. I don't really need to foil things when there are so many pre-foiled embellishments already available!

I can't say that I've had the struggle getting the circle cutter to work, but I've almost declutter it several times. Every time it is on the cutting block (every 2 years or so), I end up needing it for something; always something outside of my normal card making/assemblage crafty world.

I am not sure if I just got a dodgy one, but my circle cutter would constantly dislodge and make wonky circles. I don't miss it! I find stencils easier to use and store.

I keep my Kiwi templates for times when there is no internet or electricity--old-school with a pencil and scissors! Otherwise, I can mimic the shapes on my Cricut or Scan N Cut machines.
@lauraalbertscrafts
@lauraalbertscrafts 4 жыл бұрын
Does that happen often where you are, Nancy? Losing electricity? Because that would make a lot of sense if so! I've kept mine solely because I want to try to use them for stitching designs. I tend to pre-cut several cut files and use them as I go rather than cut as I scrap.

Many of your items I refrained from buying due to space and budget. However, I DO use my MS Scoreboard (and my envelope and tab punch boards) ESPECIALLY when making cards and boxes. Mine is the original 12x12; some people would be just as happy with the mini for card makers. I could part with my Crocodile Eyelet setter, but do use it with both my cards and scrapbook pages occasionally. I use my sewing machine for quilting, and clothing and home decor... not paper! So no regrets. On the other hand, I bought a table for it (reputed to fit my machine) but it does not fit inside the cutout/fold out area, and must sit on top of the table - not ideal, so one day I might remedy that. I waited a long time before buying into the die cutting world and when I did, I wanted it sized for scrapbooking, so purchased the Grand Caliber by Spellbinder. Can fit full 8.8x11 sheet on it. Love it! It embosses like a champ. NOT SO FOND of my obsessive collection of dies, embossing folders, and stamps... and will likely down size that collection in a couple of years when we move. They are ALL catalogued and organized, so at least I can easily retrieve and replace them after use. FUN VIDEO
@lauraalbertscrafts
@lauraalbertscrafts 4 жыл бұрын
Love that you're so organized with them! I refuse to allow myself to buy a lot of dies for that reason, I have just the ones I felt I would really use often. Smart lady for only buying what you're sure you'll use!

Totally agree with your choices, except for the sewing machine, I just love mine and it stays out 100% of the time and gets used on every layout lol... one thing on my list that wasn't on yours is the foil quill.... it's still in it's box :(
@lauraalbertscrafts
@lauraalbertscrafts 4 жыл бұрын
I think if I had space for my sewing machine to be out all of the time, I definitely would put more effort into learning how to use it and actually using it! I just don't, it's living in the top of my closet which is less than convenient. The foil quill looked cool, but I know myself and didn't buy it.

I never liked the We R Memory Keepers 12" decorative edge trimmers -- it was a magnetic ruler that you could add various decorative edges blades to. It came with a ginormous cutting mat (something like 36" wide if I remember correctly) and all these different cartridges (for lack of a better term) with different styled blades in them. I never could get an even cut. It was big and bulky. And I never cut anything with decorative edges anyway! I got rid of it a few years ago after having it for many many years.

Great list! The only thing I regret buying is the flexible ruler, but I do have things I rarely use because they don't fit my style. I still use my Cropadile to set eyelets, but rarely. And I use my MS score board to align two half sheets of paper to put together 12x12 pages. My circle cutter is magnetic, so it works a bit better--but I hardly use it. As for the laminator, I wanted to buy one just to flatten paper with mixed media, so I'm curious if it works.

I have the same Fishers cutter- but at 40%+20% I don’t feel like it was that expensive. I use it when I am cutting lots of paper & I like my Crop-a-dial especially when I want to make or add to a mini album(you know, the kind with cardboard pages.). Glad I didn’t go for the Minc too. Want to sell your sewing machine? Oh and the absolute savior for me has been my LSS’s “Recreate” area. It’s like a scrapbookers consignment shop.

The Sizzix embossing machine. I believe I bought it because it was on sale and cute. All the Cricut machines I bought. At one time I owned 3. I don't own the latest and don't intend to buy one. I'm Silhouette Cameo girl. Kiwi Lane templates I use to make borders. Not crazy about the images (flowers, cars, etc). What I do use is my wafer dies, punches, and of course my Silhouette. There are some tools that I rarely use but I can't say I regret buying them. What I don't like when you buy a tool and you love it but you can find the replacement parts.

I am glad I am not alone with the circle cutter. I’ve had that one forever and never get a clean cut, when I get back around my two ends don’t meet up. I too use the indent in my cutter to score things. Many times recently I have told myself that I don’t need a score board because I won’t use it and what I do is fine. ☺️

My list: Cheap paper (thin and fragile) annoys me SO much. The crop a dile is one a don't use often but I do like for eyelets even if most of the time, it is a big heavy hole puncher. I agree about the large shape punches and circle cutter, I prefer nesting dies for my big shot, you get a bunch of sizes for the same price as one large punch (love my tab punch and border punches). I have and often use my Martha Stewart Mini Score board; since it's small, it's easy to put away.
@lauraalbertscrafts

I 100% agree on the cheap paper! The texture really bugs me for some reason! I definitely agree about nesting dies, much less of a space taker! I think if I had the mini score board, I'd likely use it more.

Hi, Laura, first time seeing your videos. Out of all the tools you mentioned I only own a scoreboard. I do use it as I make cards quite often. I scrapbook, art journal, mixed media, mini albums and off the page items, too. The biggest and best tools I've bought (for my style of paper crafting) are: Big Shot, Canon Selphy printer, and my Scan and Cut CM350. Use these three often and always!! My worst regrets are buying ALL the colours in paints, inks, sprays, etc. for mixed media as I never use them up and they don't last forever!
@lauraalbertscrafts
@lauraalbertscrafts 4 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, I have overbought mixed media supplies too! I don't think I realized they would go bad at the time. LOVE my Canon Selphy too! I don't do a ton of mini albums though, so I think I'd use the scoreboard more if I did. Welcome!

I regret buying three cricut, and a lot a lot of cartridges, wooden stamp, regular stamps and embossing foldrrs. Martha Stuart punches and several cutting boards. I started scrapbooking 19 years ago. HSN and QVC appeared to have me on speed dial as they would call me to tell me of their craft shows. They would always sucker me with free shipping and three or four easy payments. Lol

Yes, Annette! I have been scrapping 20 years now too and man have I purchased some doozies! Most don't last long in my craft space if they turn out to be duds (like the old style Cricut and cartridges), but punches I've held on to for AGES. I never got big into wood stamps because they were so pricey and I'm glad for that! HSN is dangerous for my budget!

I really love hearing how differently we all scrap, it's so neat! If I had the space for the large paper cutter, I might use it more often, but I just don't so it stays in storage. The crop a dile is a great hole punch, but it's just to bulky for what I'm using it for, I think!
@maribethrobison9009
@maribethrobison9009 4 жыл бұрын
I think it does depend on how you craft, I love my laminator, I love my scoreboard, I love my crop-o-dile, I love my circle cutter (but it is a different style than the one you described), I love my large punches use all the time and continue to purchase more, I love my stamps character and other, I continue to purchase more. I didn't by a sewing machine for crafting, and I rarely use it for that, the cutter might serve it's purpose in my room, I have several other brands some very large, and then the small ones as well. Agree with you on the Kiwi Lane, I have never tried them, but I never thought they would work for me. I would use the embossing machine, but I would not go out and purchase one as I already have 3 die cutting machines that I can emboss with. I do a lot of mixed media, cards, ATC cards etc. So I think that is why the items you don't like I love. When I am doing 12 x 12 scrapbooking I don't use many of these items.

I also think if I had a dedicated scrap room, I wouldn't mind these extra tools so much, but they just can't all fit in my space!

But I like the look. I need to bite the bullet and just buy one. Totally regret purchases? The tool caddy on a spinner from Michaels. I don’t have room on my table for it at all. Small room...small table. I need stuff off of my table and on the walls. And most of my decorative scissors - half of them never cut paper correctly.

If you use eyelets, I definitely think it's worth the purchase. I didn't actually know what it did when I bought it and once I tried the eyelets, realized it wasn't my jam. I do like that it punches multiple sizes of holes though! Oh yes, those tool caddies look so cool, but I don't have tons of desk space either! Decorative scissors where handed down to my daughter a few years back because I could never cut straight with them!

I have 5 of the same tools that you have and YES they were miserable additions. I now always ask myself do I really want that or can I but more pretty stuff?? I usually buy the pretty stuff (embellishments). They make me very happy :)

Yes! I am of that mind now as well. I'd much rather spend my money on pretty papers and embellishments than tools I don't really need!

Because crafting supplies are so hard for me to buy, I don't have many. I do had die cutting and embossing machine, that is my main work horse. I use it on everything I make. I also make cards, so my scoreboard gets used quite often. I use my paper trimmer for everything, it is not as big as the one you have shown, but it has the cutting blade the same as the one ont your big one. I have been looking for that whole punch and eyelet setter, because I use my husband's workshop one and it has trouble with the small eyelets. But I can't find one, and I can/will not shop online to get one. My sewing machines are my main workhorses in my home, although I don't use them very often in my paper crafting. As for punches, well I didn't have many but the ones I do have are quite small and to be frank, I don't use them often because I don't have the hand strength to use them, I just use dies. I don't regret buying anything in my craftroom, although having said that there are some things in my craftroom that I have for sentimental value and never use. Regards 🙋‍♀️🇦🇺

I definitely think that each person is going to have a different view on these tools because we all scrap differently! I love my smaller paper trimmer because I can put it aside and pull it out easily, so it doesn't take up room on my desk. If you were local, I'd send you the crop a dile, but shipping is insane outside of the US. If I could figure out how to use the sewing machine, I might use it more often.

@@lauraalbertscrafts I have been using sewing machines since I was a young child. My mother had a treadly (foot powered) one that I loved using. I loved it so much that I asked a friend for his mother's after she past away. I use it for paper crafting because, I can fix it if anything goes wrong with it, and there is no place for the paperdust to hide. I make most of my own clothes, and that is what I use my fancy new machine for. All in all they both get lots of use. Sewing is a dieing art, and I am so happy that you are showing people how to at least how to hand sew. Thank you 🙋‍♀️🇦🇺 Thank you for the thought of sending the crop a dile, however postage is very expensive, but if you ever want to send me anything, I am happy to receive any suply of crafting goodies, even if they have been lightly used. 😀🤩😘

I have the trimmer and I love the perfect edges it cuts, but hate that the 5 1/2- 6 inch cuts are a guessing game. Sigh. My one think I regret, and this will get a lot of grief I think, is my Cricut. I just don't use it. I have to drag it out (Very, very small craft space) and usually use it on the floor and I'm 61 so it's not ideal with my age and health issues. I think if I had a larger space where it could remain out all the time I'd use it more, but I spent a lot of money on it and it just gathers dust. I'm so mad at myself for not thinking it through.

Yes! I have a smaller trimmer that lets me get much more accurate cuts and I can pull out when I need it. I completely understand the Cricut. I have a dedicated table for my Silhouette, otherwise I'd rarely use it either! I generally do lots of cutting on it once a month and then pull from that stack of die cuts while I scrap. I have no patience for cutting on it for each layout.

Yep. I gave away my Cricut because I only took it out to help the kids with school projects and they outgrew those.

OMG! I thought I was the only one. I have the same situation; small area and have to put it on the floor - in my Livingroom, and I'm 67. The last time I did it, my boxer puppy thought I wanted to play. It's hard getting up off the floor when dog that's 45 pounds of solid muscle won't let you stand up.

Great video! I am going to be controversial perhaps but the ATG gun has got to be my worst purchase - me and that thing are NOT friends, I have a score board, I don’t use it much but I don’t regret buying it it’s always nice to turn to to make some gift boxes (although rarely) other tool I regret is my stamping platform - I use it but it never gets a clear stamped image - I’m not sure if it’s the one I bought, my poor skills or what but I think I stamp better without it! Lol!
@lauraalbertscrafts
@lauraalbertscrafts 4 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, as soon as I saw the size of the ATG gun, I knew it wasn't for me. I have gotten better at recognizing tools that won't work for the way I scrap, I think. I definitely think the way you scrap will be a big determiner of how much you use a tool. For me, big, bulky tools just never get used! I have a stamp platform (big and small!), but never use them. I don't necessarily regret buying them though, mine does work quite nicely, but I do need to pull it out!

100% agreed! I rarely use the scoring board, but the bone folder I love! I have so many stamps, mostly from kits when I used to subscribe to kits all of the time. If I pull them out, I use them occasionally, but otherwise it's rare!

Well I basically said I think we might be soul sisters lol! I got rid of the crop o dile years ago, I have a very funny story or the time I was scrapping with a friend who had bought all things kiwi lane and I freehanded something on a layout and she basically couldn’t believe she’d wasted all that money and gave them away the next day, I too have the score board and only use the bone folder, and I just recently came to the realization that I’m not a stamper and went through my stamps and want to get rid of over half of them! So I loved this video! I can’t wait to watch more. Also I love your light set up! (I watched one room one) I don’t have room for big lights for my videos either. I might try something similar! Oh and I’m a new sub!!

It's funny how one person loves 1 thing and another hates it. Just an FYI the sizzix you can use it to cut dies. You tube videos on it. I totally wish I had never spent the money on the scrap n easel. I even purchased the clip on light that goes with it. Everyone was raving about it so I had to have. I'm not impressed. I have the bigger crop a dile. I think I used once and oh, the envelope punch board. As if I really need to make my own envelopes. Good grief. It was a fun video and thank's for sharing your dislikes.

Thank you, Kathleen! I agree, everyone scraps differently and I was hoping to hear how others feel about these tools and others. I admit, I eyed the scrap n easel! The cost for what it was just made it unnecessary for me. Oh yes, I remember the envelope punch board too, another one I'm glad I took a pass on. I have tried to use dies with this Sizzix and it just doesn't do a great job, I think the pressure isn't high enough. I do have a full size Sizzix that I use occasionally and generally prefer.
