The scene in Zootopia where the scouts put the muzzle on Nick is pretty horrifying. It shows how the cruelty of children can haunt someone well into adulthood, forming Nick's entire outlook on life and cementing his distrust of others.

Yeah, it is pretty dark and sad. But it is much darker if the movie goes to the original plot 'All predators will have their collars, and the preys will be the one who control it since they can electrocute them or free them.' It's Disney so it is not allowed, but I wonder how would the original story goes.

I've seen the unfinished version of a scene when a young polar bear becomes a citizen by putting on the collar; he was so excited about it that he got too excited and... lets just say Judy previously thought the collars were a good idea, but after that moment she was shocked, horrified and upset. The scene finishes with Nick saying "Let's just go" or something like that. It's a good thing that was NOT in the movie.

I watched Toy Story 3 when I was 12. When they had accepted death, I was on the brink of tears, thinking "No... NO! This is impossible! They can't die!". Well, everyone in that movie theatre was probably thinking the same thing because when the toys were saved, everyone clapped and cheered. I went from feeling despair and disbelief to feeling one of the best feelings out there-- relief.

I think we got used to the concept of 'the main characters don't die' in a Disney movie by then. So I think we all were predicting some sort of saving, just thinking "don't worry, something will save them right before their doom" yeah that's how I felt.

Maria Zamburglar I think what also did it was that, at least for me, when they accepted their fate, I thought “Okay they definitely gonna get out of this any second!”, but then the scene kept going, the music not stopping, and for one moment I thought “Are they SERIOUSLY gonna do this WTF!!?!!?” and then at the last possible minute they did the thing lol

I am surprise as well and wish that be possible, but I agree with the replies. The original is more scary and it does teach kids to behave or they'll end up like them...but I am one of those people that may be a little too far And there were more villains that actually won Like the headless horseman for example even though we dunno if the protag.'s still alive or not (Which is how they make the story interesting), or from what I learn: The horseman could've been a dark spirit or from the disney perspective it could've been the prankster in the film Or the t-rex killing a dino for lunch, that counts as a villain

Honestly though, when the toy story scene happened and everyone was hugging each other, and Woody just.....stared into the fire, holding hands with his friends but still completely ALONE shook me up so bad. He was joined to his friends, but somehow he still seemed isolated from the pack. I feel like that says a lot about him and how he has difficulty letting go of things and moving on like the others.

Crab Apple I've actually nailed down the formula in why the donkey transformation scene is so effective at being terrifying! It goes like this: -First, you see the ears and the tail spurt out of Lampwick and your initial reaction is something just like Pinnochio's, "Huh?! What the heck is going on? This is kinda weird..." -Second, when Lampwick obtains the donkey face, you can't help but giggle a little with how funny it looks, laughing along with Pinnochio. -But the laughter quickly stops once both Pinnochio start making Donkey screeches, and Lampwick starts feeling his facial features as the music starts to tense up. You're now like, "Okay, now this is starting to get a bit unnerving..." -Then when Lampwick finally realizes what's happening and starts panicking and begging Pinnochio for help, you're now saying, "Alright at first this was just weird and a little funny, but now this is quickly becoming REALLY uncomfortable..." -And finally once Lampwick's hands grotesquely morph into hoves, his back becomes hunched, he completely loses his ability to speak, and starts tearing off his clothes and trashing the place your now cowering in fear saying to yourself, "that is one of the SCARIEST things I'll ever see in my entire life!" Those were literally my reactions when I first saw this scene as a kid! Essentially, what makes this scene so effective at horrifying you is not just the horrible implication that the transformation is both unwilling and permanent, but also that it doesn't immediately start off scary, but instead slowly builds up its suspense. It starts off as weird, to being a tad humerus, to being uncomfortable, and to finally becoming the stuff of nightmares! Disney perfectly nailed this formula and scarred kids for life with this scene!

My favorite part about #9 is how the scene starts. Shortly after the famous "A Whole New World" song plays no less. "For the first time in my life, things are starting to go right." *immediately gets ambushed and chained up by a bunch of guards who proceed to throw him off a cliff to drown to death* Funny in a dark way.

Again, great list! most of these scenes are the kind that I didn't think much about when watching them as I was too young to understand. However one scene I DID understand as a kid and made me feel terrible (and I dont see many people talk about) , was in Bambi where a bunch of pigeons are hiding in tall grass from the hunters, and then one of them was too afraid to stay and tries flying away but she gets shot and you see her corpse fall to the ground. Heck, I barely remember anything from that movie but that scene stuck with me after all these years! The despair of the pigeon got to me. Even after that though, I totaly agree the incinerator scene in Toy Story 3 is the darkest of all Disney!

Oogie Boogie's defeat in The Nightmare Before Christmas is perhaps one of the most scariest Disney Villain deaths i have ever witnessed, Jack Skellington pulling Oogie's loose end, rapidly revealing his true identity as a mishmash of vile insects, bugs and worms. Oogie's bugs fall into the fire pit while Oogie exclaims. "Now look what you've done Jack! My Bugs...*MY BUGS!*" The words "My Bugs" get more high pitched, demonic and distorted...and boy that had to be the most traumatising scene i have ever seen when i was only 4 years old...not to mention that Jack wasn't messing around, he actually skinned Oogie alive for treating his friends so shamefully!

Mufasa's death will always stick with me, because it may have been what ultimately changed my perspective on disney. I used to think of it as just a little kids' thing with princesses and cartoon mice, but then I saw mufasa's death...just...that scene in particular had the power to really surprise me. I have never seen a character actually die in anything for kids until I saw that scene, I never even wanted to believe that mufasa was actually dead. Great list, a lot of good dark Disney moments. The darkest scene to me is either the torture scene in Hunchback of Notre Dame, where the town is cheering while Quasimodo is being humiliated (aside from Phoebus and Esmeralda, the only two outraged), or also from Hunchback of Notre Dame, where Frollo was ready to burn that innocent family alive including a baby and a toddler.

The Leviathan attack from Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Coming back to this movie I remembered how brutal this scene is. Just rewatch it, you actually see a lot of people dying rather brutally in this scene. Now that I'm thinking about it, this movie must have the highest kill count in any Disney animated movies. I swear like half of the cast is dead by the end.

All valid points, except for number 3. Sure, watching someone almost being cut in half by a chainsaw is very dark, but it's still Mickey, his cartoon physics make the scene a lot less scary than if it was a movie character. Also the fact that it was made in 1933, all cartoons were adult-oriented back then, so it's not actually surprising.

frollo showed what happens when the church is corrupted, which happens far too often sadly. religion doesn’t feel or seem much at all like a chain to me, in fact quite the opposite. not all religious people are the same, and unfortunately there are quite a few who use their religion as a mask to do cruel things in the background while holding a guise up and saying how they can do no wrong. as a happily religious person myself, it’s sick that this happens so often :/
@sandywolfr26

how is it free? you doing what a book says. you are following teachings of an old book. then some people uses the book to bully others. not to mention to me it just wasting money by giving it to someone who reads the books, books that you can read yourself for free. im just tired of hearing people say but in the bible it says this and this. so your way is wrong. im like i bet if that book tells you to go jump off a bridge you would do it. it weird how the bible is soo right while others like say greek gods is considered myths. that what i mean by chains. accepting one way and claiming others are wrong or myths just cuz it not your beliefs or as i say, beliefs that the majority believes in. im sure it freeing but i just can't see it. i see only chains and collars and brainwashing.
@gameking8809

"it weird how the bible is soo right while others like say greek gods is considered myths. that what i mean by chains. accepting one way and claiming others are wrong or myths" Isn´t that the same thing you are doing here? I see nobody forcing you to believe. Yet you claim people with another view on the world as you are brainwashed and unfree. You see, I don´t know wether a god exists or not. Nobody does for sure. But the same goes for you. You cannot say people are chained if they have different views than you. It is only a minority who takes every single word of the bible literally.
@sandywolfr26
@sandywolfr26 6 жыл бұрын
Gameking those minorities are the ones with the loudest voices apparently. I’m just stating my views. I’m not saying anyone to not follow the book. It just the way I see things. You don’t see me saying the book is a lie. I’m just stating how religion can twist people. Those who are good and don’t force the book are not what I’m talking about. It those that shame or punished people for choices that has nothing to do with them at all. And yes I see the chains. I saw how bad religious nuts can make their children. Some kids run away or kill themselves. And how many sheltered/ abused kids stories start with my family is highly religious. And it doesn’t stop just cuz kids grow up either. Adults have trouble going against their religion and being free to chose what they want. Instead of asking what they really want, they ask themselves what do the Bible say. I grew up with religion. And after seeing how weak it made my mother, I said to myself to never be that way. I can see the positives though but it very scary when I hear I’m only good cuz of the book. Like it the only thing keeping people good. Like they would do worst things if they didn’t follow the book. I’m not trying to put other people down for their beliefs. As long as it doesn’t harm others or force others to bend to that belief. God doesn’t exist to me. I make my own way. And science explained so many mysteries already. Prayers don’t help either. As you see by the millions of shootings and murders going on. I send prayers don’t do anything til people actually do something to stop it from happening.

Bambi is definitively one of my most favorite Disney movies. But boy, I actually read the book it was based off of and it was even darker. I really recommend reading the book as well.

4:12 And this scene is one of the reasons why Bambi 2 is so amazing. People always seem to think that Disney Toon studios always made bad cheapquels. Well, I implore them to look this one up. it is one of the best from them visually, storywise, and wonderful characters, not that they are from the original, but that they were able to craft them in such a remarkable way that helps them grow and connect with the continuation of the original film.

I love how the incineration scene can have people bawling at one moment, confused another, and then laughing their lungs out with a perfect quote from the perfect characters.

#10 Not familiar with this one, but yeah, Donald went a little *too* crazy. #9 I remember this and I was kinda creeped out by it. #8 I read Sleepy Hollow in junior year so this didn't bother me too much. #7 The hunter... The one Disney villain never shown on screen. Maybe for good reason? #6 I can see why Mufasa's death shook a lot of people. I really liked the final moment between Mufasa and the older Simba telling him to return to Pride Rock. Best scene in the movie along with what Rafiki did after. #5 As much as I liked Mulan, I felt uneasy when they reached the burnt down village. Girl Worth Fighting For was a great song only for it to be tragically cut short. #4 Damn, now I *really* need to see Fantasia. The only scenes I knew about were Night on Bald Mountain and The Sorcerer's Apprentice. #3 The moment I saw this, I knew The Mad Doctor would be brought up somehow. #2 Haven't seen Pinocchio in years, and I thought the Monstro scenes were hard to watch. HM: Haven't seen Hunchback in so long, but remember the best scenes because of KH3. Frollo's hellfire was as colorful as it was menacing. Need to watch Princess and the Frog again. Clayton's death was also spooky. Ah, Horned King... So forgotten yet still remembered at the same time. I'll put The Black Cauldron on my possible watch list. When I saw this just recently, I thought Snow White running through the Dark Forest was one of the scariest scenes in Disney. To be honest, I also expected the queen poisoning Snow White. Chernabog was the main reason I had to watch Fantasia; 10 minutes of chilling evil that made the movie a masterpiece! #1 I never realized how powerful this scene was. Lotso betrayed them, no lines spouted after, it almost reminded of me Frollo burning Paris for a moment with the bright shades of red and orange. Woody and Buzz are a few of my favorite Disney characters. Seeing like this shook me up quite a bit.

Quentin Ellis I think you mean Dream Drop Distance. Kingdom Hearts 3 isn't out yet. Though we won't be waiting for much longer and I cannot reccommend Fantasia enough! It is a beautiful artistic masterpiece! Fantasia 2000 is really good too. The best sequences in that one imo are Pines of Roam and The Firebird. Just WOW! 🤓

For me the darkest scene is Aurora pricking her finger on the spinning wheel in Sleeping Beauty. It always sent a chill down my spine. Seeing Aurora completely hypnotized while the fairies begin to feel helpless against Maleficent is pretty psychologically terrifying in my opinion.

Several scenes from The Brave Little Toaster were absolutely terrifying. An air conditioner self-destructing (committing suicide), while everyone is just like, "whatever, he was a jerk anyway", the toaster's nightmare with horrifying clowns, giant appliances and bathtubs to electrocute him, a man dismantling appliances for spare parts and the entire, four-minute-long song "Worthless". Although I've only seen it once as a kid, it has still stuck with me for a long time.

I have enjoyed Rebels and how the Clone Wars creative team is on the project as well. I really enjoy how the show is a medium to bring legends material into Star Wars cannon and to see familiar faces from Clone Wars. Also, compared to the terrible teeny-bob sitcoms Disney tends to spew out on TV, Rebels is a quality show in an otherwise dismal youth TV channel

One of the darkest moments for me was Kenai's realization that he killed Koda's mother. While Brother Bear did have so much tonal problems to the point where the second act could be considered a completely different movie, that moment still remains so tense and uncomfortable to watch. Koda's telling a story that, while scary to him, he still didn't know what happened. Kenai however is flashing back to everything that happened before he became a bear and starts to realize how connected their stories are. And to see Disney actually show that a protagonist killed the mother of a supporting character is just messed up. It's handled with all of the fear, the tension, and respect it deserves, and it's a real shame the actual scene where Kenai opens up is so awkward and watered down. It's a highly underrated scene that shows there was care put into the bear stuff
