The 1974 Draft now has 6 Hall of Famers. Donnie Shell just recently got inducted. 5 of the 6 are Steelers.
@algini12 Жыл бұрын
Yes, they mentioned him here, but Shell didn't get elected till 40 years after he retired. He was a UDFA. He finished with 51 INT's. Other DB's had more. But he got them all playing Strong Safety ONLY, and it makes him the all time leader specifically at that position. Other Strong Safeties had more, but they got them splitting at other DB positions to get their higher total. Why did it take so long for him? I heard it was Steelers fatigue. Just too many HOF'rs from too many years. Too add more is just way too much. You have to spread them out, lol. Fortunately, Shell was still alive to get his gold jacket. L.C. Greenwood is long dead. Too bad he'll never get to see it when it happens.
@Gungho734 ай бұрын
@@algini12 It's like Kramer with the Packers and how long he had to wait because of the sheer number of players from that team inducted. I started resenting some players that got in from that team before him due to how ludicrous it was becoming. The argument that tends to get them in nowadays seems to be "well, back then there was less teams so any individual great team could have more great players." I'm happy those players get in, but it feels like a backhanded compliment when it should be they're a great player, best or one of best of era, so we should always remember them as such. Could be worse. Could've been the think tank process that the hall had that a defensive player without a ring is by default, a lesser player. Hate that.

Hands down, the Steelers 74 is the best. There's just nothing that can top a draft netting 4 HOFers. I think the Niners 86 draft (27:24) should be higher than #5. Not only did they land 8 starters who mostly started 2 or more SBs, but they were picking late due to being in the playoffs the prior year, and did not make a selection in the first round. Roberts, the first of their picks, was arguably the worst of them all even though he was quite good. The three 3rd rounders were all excellent and crazy enough, the 4th round picks were the best of the bunch. Then they landed Don Griffin in the 6th round. All played 7 or more seasons, some more than 10, lots of pro bowls among them and Haley in the HOF. That is a tremendous haul.

If you want to get technical.....it might be the 1984 NFL Draft and the 1984 USFL Supplemental Draft. The Giants selected OLB Carl Banks out of Michigan State. The Giants then passed on drafting DE Reggie White to draft OL Gary Zimmerman who did NOT want to play in an urban environment since he was an outdoorsman. The Giants traded him to Minnesota for a trove of picks which they used to suck all of the defensive talent out of the 1986 NFL Draft. NT Erik Howard made perhaps the greatest play in Giants post season history by forcing 49ers RB Roger Craig to fumble in the 1990 NFC CG. ILB Pepper Johnson was the best defender and the only First Team All-Pro selection in the 1990 season.

@MrJLov134 жыл бұрын
@Harry Engel That's a fair point, another thing I think helps the 06 Saints cause is that you could make the argument that Jahri Evans was a HOF caliber player. A 6× Pro Bowler, a 5x All-Pro, and a member of the NFL 2010's All-Decade Team. The issue is, since he just retired in 2017, he's technically not eligible for induction until 2022.
@Gungho734 жыл бұрын
@Harry Engel In defense of those players, take a look at the passing stats from those years alone. Their best QB performance was in their draft year. Everything following that to be kind would be to call it *abysmal* even in THAT era. If you look at expected wins versus reality, that team often won multiple games more then expected because the talent level was that poor overall. Those two becoming Hall of Famer talents is an utter achievement and it stands out in a completely lost era of football for a team that had been one of footballs finest up to that point.

Bro this show was around 2008. Or earlier. I was thinking about the 2011 Bengals. I know they didn't win anything important but that set the tone for not being pathetic for a few years. Draft wise especially. Maybe as a best of the rest. Then I saw the news ribbon. My guess was 2008-10.
@Fnoel983562 жыл бұрын
@Fries conversely, another great day draft class for Seattle was the 1990 draft class. I feel that it gets overlooked because the Seahawks didn't have a lot of success, but that's because of Ken Behring's ineptitude. Especially drafting Dan McGuire & Rick Mirer. In 1990 draft they drafted Cortez Kennedy, a HOF Defensive tackle, Chris Warren, who was a multiple time pro bowler, & led the AFC in touchdowns 1 year. Terry Wooden played 10 years in the NFL & played in a pro bowl. & Robert Blackmon played 8-9 years also. Again, a great draft, but the front office didn't follow up the next few years.
@Fnoel983562 жыл бұрын
@Fries Of my memory serves me correctly, Dan McGuire was drafted in the middle of the 1st round (15-17 range). The Berings were enamored with his arm strength as I recall, even though that's all he had. Chuck Knox didn't want to draft him. He thought that they needed a corner or a offensive tackle, but if they were adamant on taking a quarterback, he would take Brett Farve over McGuire. Aneas Williams was also available & the Behrings passed on him as well. Chuck Knox resigned after 1991 & went to coach the Rams again (even though that was a franchise in disarray as well). While the cupboard was starting to get a little bare talent-wise offensively, they had some good building blocks there with guys like Brian Blades, John L Williams and Chris Warren at skill positions, the line was in shambles. Bryan Millard retired after 1991. Andy Heck wasn't the game changer offensive tackle they thought he would be. It all came down to the quarterback and that was in bigger shambles. The defense carried them for several years.

@michaelhession2105 Жыл бұрын
That wouldn't even sniff the Top 10. Why? Because for a draft class to be in the Top 10, it has to be a chorus of great players that a team drafted in one year, not a single player. Brady was the only one out of that draft that was a Pro Bowler.
@t74guard78 Жыл бұрын
Did they draft 4 HOF and another as a free agent giving them 5 for that year like Pittsburgh did? NOOOOOO they didn't, case closed. New England had several different teams win those 6 Superbowls. Not all of them were around for all 6. The first 4 Pittsburgh won were pretty much the same team with just a few changes. So the real #1 based on facts, not a bias opinion, is what this show and everyone who really knows football knows to be the truth, the 74 Pittsburgh Steeler draft end of story.

Hunt was good but they clearly didn't think his problems would follow him. Everyone else in that draft was effectively a miss for them.

Also got Electric X Factor Brad Smith who was a very useful Gadget Guy. Eric Smith was a very useful Third Safety for the Jets for six years, even started a few of them. I still cant believe they got two offensive lineman that were, maybe not the best at their position every year, but were always good cornerstone players. Because when you look at teams that draft even one offensive lineman high, and totally flub the pick due to scheme or overevaluating measureables vs actual film, to hit 2 picks out of the park on the line is honestly crazy. I loved Leon when he was here in WA, the guy was patient to follow his blocks and take what he was given and I believe thats why his average was what it was. Lot of players refuse to follow their blocks to make something happen. You have a coach and a unit dedicated to making it happen, BELIEVE IN THEM! Sheesh.

hahahahahah wambulance is on the way. Looks like someone needs a box of tissues. I am sure Stallworth didn't mined what happened. Who would when you land on the best team in NFL history and 4 Superbowl rings plus making the HOF. Yeah I am very sure he didn't mind what happened at all and I am also sure he made plenty of money. Never heard him complain about it one time. I have been a Steeler fan since that very year, 1974. I never heard Stallworth complain one time about it. Since it happen to him and he didn't have a problem with it, it's all good. Oh and I am sure it has happened with pretty much ever team in the NFL and more than once. hahahhahahah got that box of tissues yet. Cheaters hahhahahahahha gonna need a row boat with that river of tears hahahhaha

It's one thing to just post a recording of a TV show, but to even nclude the commercials? Like Biden says, "Come on man!"

I cringe every time an American calls themselves world champions in a sport only played by American teams..
@t74guard78 Жыл бұрын
Well good, hope you keep cringing until the day you die. Baseball is played in many countries and so is basketball. Not sure about football but I think there is a European league. Probably to rough of a sport for the rest of the world anyway. Even todays game which is much, much less tough compared to before. Today you can't do anything like you use to be able to do. Those were the real days of football. Anyway like I said, hope you never stop cringing cause America will never stop calling their champions world champions and that is because they are just that. Nobody else appears to mind or should I say "Cringe." hahahhahahahahha

Make that FIVE hall of famers from the 1974 Steelers drafts class as Donnie Shell made the hall last year...so that top spot is locked down for a while now! LOL

The Commanders is such a stupid name.

As is the Guardians. Unbelievable to me after so many years they had to change their names. Why, why, why why? There was nothing insulting or downgrading about the Indians or Redskins. They were honoring them. Next those who are Patriots, Cowboys, Mariners, Padres, etc, are going to want their names changed as well. Good thing animals can't talk or the Ravens, Bengals, Rams, Seahawks, etc. would complain too. Wacked up world we live in these days.
