The best dribblers are Messi and Hazard hands down. The way they easily beat defenders with hip movement is absolutely astonishing. They make it look easy when is actually the hardest thing to do. You're actually insinuating that if Hazard did the 85 more dribble attempts he wouldn't even manage to succeed atleast 25 of them (which is a ratio of 30% in this hypothesis, something that obv. doesn't accord to the already measured statistical ratio of 77%). Hence we use percentage to compare the absolute values.

Simple hazard is the best dribbler in the world, not just like last season, but also last 3 or 4 seasons. It's very hard to take the ball from him, his ball control and ball retention is second to none. Premier league defenders are very tough and mark so tight and he still goes past them.

They just dribble or nutmeg someone and then pass back! Then you take a look at Messi's clips. Despite only being 5th in this list he had the most solo goals.Plus most of his dribbles are in the opposition's half and Everytime he goes on a run he creates something - a magical pass or an amazing solo goal. That's why some of the best dribblers are just wingers cause they can only dribble and let loose a ball. An effective player and an effective dribbler are two different things like how the best player is different from the best dribbler. The best player gets the best results, the best dribbler gets the most success just by dribbling alone (no passing, crossing or shooting involved)

I guess the difference is when messi dribbles it's towards a purpose. He dribbles either to make a key pass increasing the probability of the goal, or dribbles to just have that little space to shoot and score. His dribbles are more deadly.
