About the lack of a second analog stick on the PSP: With an emulator, you're not limited to using the controls the way they are on the original console. You can remap them to whatever you want. PPSSPP is great in this respect in that it allows you to assign multiple real controls to the emulated controls. In other words, if a game uses the shoulder buttons to turn the camera, there's nothing stopping you from adding the right analog stick on your controller as an additional input for the L/R buttons, so that when you move the right stick, it thinks you pressed those buttons. If a game uses the four face buttons to control a camera, assign the four directions of the right stick to them. I haven't kept up with PPSSPP development because I have an old computer and can't run the latest versions, but the last time I tried this, it worked, but wasn't very good as the authors never anticipated anyone mapping buttons to an analog control. They MAY have improved this in the latest versions. In any case, it's worth a try. Similarly, if you get annoyed at games where you push the stick right and the camera moves left, just reverse the directions in the control mapping. ePSXe has a control setting for a NeGcon controller. I don't have a NegCon, so I mapped the twist function to the analog stick, then I was able to have analog control in games that only support the NeGcon.

No need to use MAME when FBA and variants are available. This is a terrible list. But still I use Ryujinx for 2D games since I can apply the same 2D shader setup to any game regardless of the emulator core.

Flycast over Redream, Redream doesn't support a lot of games. Also Ryujink is better than YUZU for switch. Both alternate options require more work though. Great list though

Flycast still has that issue where Sonic Adventure 2 doesn't let you run in a straight 0º line if you hold the stick straight up, this alone is a deal breaker for it. I use Redream on the go, or my Dreamcast console over Flycast for this among other reasons. Also Flycast mixes box arts, all my PAL games wound up having some US box arts, some Japanese box arts, and some PAL arts which look so out of place when mixed together given how the US ones have half white arch designs, half black arch designs, and different names or just generally more boring box arts. Also major graphical issues in Sonic Adventure, Shenmue 2, Tomb Raider 4 and Chronicles, Soul Reaver, and SEGA GT of the few I tried on it, where Redream has no issues displaying things properly. Even NullDC gave me a better time than Flycast.

I am surprised that you did not mention NES, SNES, and GBA emulators. For NES I use MESSEN. It has been hailed as the best NES emulator out there. Great for ROM hacking, has the best Famicom Disk emulation, an extremely easy-to-use UI, and my favorite part is that it has an extensive list of GG codes as part of the emulator, but you can add more to the game you are playing or add codes to a game that is not on the list. I personally feel the same way about MESSEN-S. The SNES emulator. This emulator offers all of the same features as its MESSEN counterpart. As for a GBA emulator, it is hard for me to choose just one because of all of the various offerings each one has. Is there anyone out there that has a favorite one that offers full compatibility for GB, GBC, and GBA? Please let me know.

Honestly for GB, GBA, and GBC games I've just been using MGBA for an emulator and it's been working perfectly fine for me. There may be small hiccups here and there, but I mostly use it for Pokémon and haven't had any real issues.

It really just comes down to how many games are supported on the emulation software and how well they have optimized it. The more advanced a game you try to play, the more resources it will take to run it.

I like to use an emulator called Drastic it's a good Nintendo DS emulator that can be played on a phone or tablet but also offers the option to add cheats to games for example in you play any DS Pokèmon game you can activate the cheat that gives you 100% catch rate

I am using retroarch and mame for anything pre ps2/xbox era [apart from scummvm], then the standalones for ps2/xbox, ps3 . Highly recommend launchbox to manage everything and have all your emulated games in one place with all the artwork in a steam like format and all the different platforms separated into sections for easy navigation.

Great list, but RPCS3 is way better than Xenia. RPCS3 is a much more developed emulator with a lot more playable games. Also, contrary what was said here, Xenia does not run OG Xbox games and launches only Xbox 360 games

Nice a handy guide video to the scene especially beginners although I think that the mini retro consoles out there are cheap for what they are ..... but on the other hand they are rubbish especially as they only usually use the cheap ass android CPUs inside and can only managed a soft looking 720p. The PC is they way to go or perhaps a top end Android or Pi board build methinks

Desmume rocks No$gba !!!! For the Dreamcast i use both Redream and Demul (the graphics and audio sound are almost perfect on it) but it require a powerful PC to run it smoothly. I'll never let KegaFusion for my genesis games....

Cemu: Wii U Xenia Xbox 360 AND Xbox Cemu is also super iffy with a lot of games. I've personally had crashes is Sonic BOOM, Mario Kart 8, Mario Maker and Wind Waker HD with it after about 10 minutes of gaming.

I have one of thoes hand held emulator devices. It works great for nearly all the gameboy games. But it's awful at playing psp games. I do have the psvita mabey it would be worth it to get customer fermware on it to play the psp games ibused to have. I'm trying to use my current 10th gen i5 computer to play my xbox,xbox360,ps2,ps3 games. That would help downsize the space needed on my shelfs.

MAME isn't just an arcade emulator anymore and hasn't been for literally almost a decade at this point. It now emulates literally almost anything. Also, a Core 2-era CPU is NOT ENOUGH for MAME anymore, and hasn't been for, again, YEARS. The actual MAME developers tend to recommend at least a 4th gen Intel CPU or first gen Ryzen for AMD as the minimum.

Welp, I fixed what was wrong with my Redream. It wasn't because my iGPU was corrupted. It was because i had to clean out my Redream cache. So good bye Flycast & Demul. & Helloooh Redream~! Redream is easily one of the best Dreamcast emulators hands down.

Running exclusives that were released on 360 and ps3. You will get better performance from xenia, especially on a lower spec pc. RPCS3 requires a powerful cpu while Xenia can take advantage of your gpu.

​@bundangkorea not true man. While Rpsc3 is the more advanced and developed emulator, games that are cross compatible with ps3/360 tend and work on xenia tend to run faster. Red Dead Redemption for instance runs and even looks better on Xenia(with3x scaling) This is because the 360 has a far simpler cpu than the ps3's cell processor. Look it up if you're not convinced. As for compatibility though, Rpsc3 is king.
