Those who created the "because" rule thought about only when the phrase, which the word "Because" is part of is always acting as a fragment: this is true until that fragment begins the sentence NOT as a stand alone construction but a modifier (adverbial phrase) to the independent clause after it. Thank you 🙏 Settele. You have a very excellent intuition for identifying most of my problems in the reading and writing section. I just started studying for the Dec test and I'm hoping to make a difference.

8:31 In the third sentence, there should be comma after "friends" right? English is not my first language so, I am confused as I asked chatGPT and it told me the there should be a comma not because it is a list but because there is an extra clause
@SetteleTutoringАй бұрын
Don’t use ChatGPT for grammar. It’s TERRIBLE. There’s no need for a comma after friends because it’s a list of 2 things, not 3 and not 2 complete sentences. The rules for conjunctions are very important to apply: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5SVlqJne6Z4p9U

Thank you for always being so helpful!!! On rule 6, how do we know when should we use comma and when should not when encountering words like "that" "which" ...?
@xjessie00695 ай бұрын
like how do we define if a clause is required(essential) or not, please?
@SetteleTutoring5 ай бұрын
It’s hard to talk about comma rules in a succinct way. They are very variable and specific to the circumstances. But the example you’re asking about is more reliable than most. For whatever reason, “that” does not usually get a comma, but “which” does. But it’s easy to find exceptions, and the SAT could give them too: “It doesn’t matter which program you download.” “I told my father, who once owned a business, that I wanted to work for myself.”
@SetteleTutoring5 ай бұрын
The best way to know if a clause is required or not is to test it out. Try reading the sentence in parts and see how it sounds. If you remove a piece, does it still sound like a complete sentence? Unfortunately, knowing when something is a complete sentence is mostly about instinct. There are grammar rules we can follow about whether a clause has a subject and a verb, but I find that method confusing and unhelpful. You end up picking the sentence apart too much to get a sense of whether it works as a whole. I talk about listening for sentences a bit at the end of the Grammar Quiz video. Let me know if that helps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpvYq4SpepibqMk

I want to choose a perfect month to write the SAT because I don’t have the funds to rewrite another. Do you have any suggestions?
@SetteleTutoring6 ай бұрын
Pick the time that is going to be best for your study schedule. You want about 2-3 months of study time before the actual exam. Pick a date when you won’t be too busy to study in the weeks and months before the SAT. Otherwise, it really doesn’t matter. Just don’t wait too long because colleges cut off the acceptable test dates for certain application deadlines.

150 points is going to be very hard to do. Grammar is just a part of the puzzle. Keep studying, especially the topics and strategies mentioned in my video on how to get a 600 in reading. You need to start with the fundamentals.
