Most comments say I'm a lucky man because I have Patricia as my wife. I guess I'm doubly blessed. We got here by setting goals and making sacrifices. We have a project list a mile long and everything costs more and takes longer than you expected. Everyone wants to live the dream but, remember nightmares are dreams too. Thx for following our adventure.

i really enjoy your reviews. i like the way you have "gut feelings" about boats. i also don't like some of the higher end yachts like the oyster. you gave me confidence to feel that way....this seems like a GREAT boat for you two. I will look - do you have a vid on how it sails? I don't have the wallet for one of these. but maybe one day!!
@SailingCAVU3 ай бұрын
The boat sails great, even in light wind she does good. Heeling is minimum for a monohull because of the full chine. Sails are all easily managed from the cockpit.

I’ve been looking to purchase this boat in the very near future, and must say I agree very much with your top 10 except for the microwave. I am looking forward to your next 10 negative to see if I overlooked some stuff.

A couple of options I wish we had gotten are the rub rail and a chain washer. We also didn't teak the cockpit which I think would be easier to keep clean.
@playb4work4472 жыл бұрын
@@SailingCAVU I’m not a fan of teak, but many people have told me that it is easy er to keep clean.
@brownnoise3572 жыл бұрын
@@playb4work447 Artificial Teak is much easier above decks, and tbh, I have as little woodwork up top I'm the sun and salt air as possible now, it's a heck of a lot of work to keep in good condition, and frankly, much as I loved that work when younger, due to it being quite rewarding, it just isn't possible for me to domit myself any longer. The nice thing withbsynthetic Teak, is it is a great protective layer over the fibreglass. I can still e joy the wood below decks, so I'm not a fan of Fabrics hiding the wood on Vertical Surfaces tbh. Fabric may quiet things down a bit, but .I'm pretty Deaf Anyway. 😅

Hi, last week we had the first days on our new SO440. Here are our top likes 1. Walk around deck and splited shrouds 2. Convertible coamings (on both sides) 3. Davits (we opted for the davits from Jeanneau and we are so happy with them! Most of the time we spend at anchor in bays or on bouys. Dinghy handling and sailing performance ist so much better having the dinghy on the davits!) 4. Full cockpit enclosure (off season in the adriatic this is a really really good feature) 5. Sail locker at the bow 6. Chart Table (I like it to have a chart table, even it‘s more used for office purpose) 7. Rectangular beds 8. Additional freezer & (aftermarket) solar panels 9. Big storage box in the aft (instead of the generator) for our sporting utilities 10. Strong retractable bow thruster Bonus like: we like the sailing performance of the boat! Especially with the additional Gennaker sailing in lighter winds is really fun!
@SailingCAVU2 жыл бұрын
We like the performance too. Adding an A2 this summer. Also trying to get a custom solar arch/davit added.
@brownnoise3572 жыл бұрын
I'm starting to think the SO440 is going to be the sensible choice for my Next Boat, but I am left with just the one Concern to address, My big concerns are really sorted withbopting for the 2 cabin plus workshop option, to get the housebank Battery capacity I need, plus a mini washer dryer. I'm left really with the Dinghy and Davits potential issue. zso I hope you don't mind me asking, will those Davits handle say a Zodiac 310 Alu RIB, with an 8hp Tohatsu outboard on it full time while on passage, or could you recommend what has work for you, with that system please ? Like you, I won't be going with the Microwave option, preferring tonuse that space for a freezer. Also leaning towards some sort of furling gennaker and a 120% Genoa, but along with an in mast furling Cruising main Sail, to keep things nice and easy to handle for disabled me. Very Best Wishes, Fair Winds and Happy Anchorages. Bob. 👍🙂
@WolfSki13032 жыл бұрын
@@brownnoise357 Hi Bob, for us the davits are working very well, they are very stable and solid. We do not leave they outboard on the dinghy. The dinghy do not hang horizontally on the davits, the dinghy folded up to the transom. You can almost fold it up vertically, so we do not leave the outboard on it. Our dhingy is a 270, its almost to short for this kind of mounting, a 310 will fit much better to this davits. kr, wolfgang
@WolfSki13032 жыл бұрын
forgot to mention, that if you opt for the davits, the transom is reinforced inside.

Well my top 3 would be....1 to get shaft drive i don't like sail drive with too much maintenance 2 I need intercoastal waterway friendly to escape hurricanes 3 and shoal draft near 5 foot because so much shallow waters here in northwest Florida. the 490 does not have shaft drive as i know of
@SailingCAVU Жыл бұрын
Oddly the 440 does, 410 and 490 are both saildrive. Our 440 has a 5-1/2’ draft and 63’ mast for ICW

HI Dave.... great vids and hope you and Pat are enjoying your boat. So since you seem like a confident no BS kind of guy, I have a shower question.... I'm about the same build you are and often keep bumping my elbows and parts of my body when in shower enclosures made for ballerinas..... hence all the impulse cursing and voices from the other side of the door saying "are you okay in there?" So I was wondering since you've used the shower by now if you're able to have adequate shower-bathing movement with shower door closed or do you just hide the toilet paper and keep the shower door open? (Transom shower is out of the question in the fall). .. keep the informative vids rolling... fair winds.

I fit with the door closed. I do remove the shower head to make sure everything gets sprayed down. Toweling off is another story, I need the whole space.

@@SailingCAVU yeah thanks i already saw that. I am leaning towards trimarans but they have sail drive too. And some are not ICW compatible like the Neel 51. Some of them have shaft drive. They are the only tri's i see that are available. But i need a home with deep water out back to keep it. That will be hard to find. I can't sleep riding so going to sea i don't know if i could do it. Wow that's expensive just for a day sailer. Can you sail CAVU reasonably flat??? At 72 I get tired real easy standing on my ear all day.
@SailingCAVU Жыл бұрын
With the 14’2” beam, full chine and dual rudders it is incredibly flat. We reef at 15 kts and usually lose about 1/2 kt but stay flat. We get about half the wind speed.
