Vorki84 I only played Rise of Nations & Thrones and Patriots and I can tell you for sure that it is the best game I ever played!! I never played Rise of Legends but I read somewhere that it contains only three civilazations either way it is a spin-off of Rise of Nations so it makes it equally great

I agree EU ist still going. It got a new title and has a good following (esspecially with the links to Crusader Kings and victoria). Same is true for Master of Orion which currently has a new title in early acsess that gets a lot of attention. Dugeon Keeper also recently got a clone title on Steam although that was more a step backwarts. I really would love to see a new Populus though where different from the later Populus titles or Black&White we go back to the passive influence rather than to direct action.

My pick is World in Conflict. It's overlooked masterpiece. I'd say, anyone who haven't played it yet, go and buy it RIGHT NOW (get Complete Edition/Soviet Assault). Amazing storytelling and explosive gameplay.

Jizzy J Not really, HoMM4 (while the last game by the original creators) was an experiment that in all honesty kinda failed. It was innovative and wasn't bad. But for some reason the graphics got worse from the previous installment, and there were terrible balancing issues. Any HoMM4 matches could easily be won just by grinding monsters with various heroes then sticking all of those heroes into one massive party together along with your epic tier unit stack.

WatchMojo guys doesn't seem to identify the difference between old and forgotten. I for one didn't know some of the games in the list because either i was too young or just didn't happen to stumble on them but for certain there is no game in this list that i can't compare it to another one that i have played. So more than likely the games had some kind of connection, at least as a source of inspiration. I really don't understand what was their aim, maybe they run out of ideas because the way i see it this video message is like i would say that the telegraph is forgotten because now we use smartphones. But that's just silly because from the moment we humans discovered a way to record information forgetting was no more. Sure that wiped records made some starting points a mystery but the information spawned in those starting points survived in many many other different ways. Nothing is really forgotten, just obsolete and even that may not be forever as some characteristics of obsolete things may still be a valuable source of inspiration while inventing seemingly new but better stuff and more than likely useful in ways totally different to what their inspiration seed had.

I used to play 7 Kingdoms back when I was 11 or 12 years old, and that game was HARD AS FUCK! Although my young age sometimes I mange to win some games but dude..... The more time you play that game, THE HARDER IT GETS! Sooner or later you go bankrupt, you get betrayed by everyone or almost every general of yours switches to the enemy side... "Total Annihilation: Kingdoms" pops into my mind when I saw this video. I can hardly find any content about it on KZbin to relive a great part of my childhood gaming.

I would have added these: Warzone 2100 allowed making units out of 3 different( parts, chassis, tracks and weapon) which allowed for a lot of creativity and the ability to recycle units to give their exp to newer ones was very innovative and made you really try to keep your vets alive so they can become the new hovertank. Earth 2150 had some similar ideas as Warzone 2100, but it had a different and kinda cool premise: You had to collect as much resources as possible in the campaign, so you could leave earth. Also, it had a tunnel-system. Basically a second map beneath the first one that you could use to create shorcuts to the enemy base or set up special underground units. Sacrifice was a completely unique game witih a lot of tactic. Sure, you played it 3rd person, but it actually worked and sacrificing souls of the enemy to your god, so you could summon more minions was delightfully cruel and hilarious. And James is still the best god ever!

+Davesknd Yes, just yes! Warzone 2100 was so much and didn't get the fame it deserved. Earth 2150 was also excellent. Another game that took a similar approach but wasn't as fully a strategy was Hostile Waters. Quite enjoyable as well.

Europa Universalis isn't exactly forgotten. The series is still ongoing, with the last incarnation being Europa Universalis IV, released back in 2013, but still being supported with new expansions to this day (the latest expansion was released back in April this year).

nik Command and Conquer is a dying series sadly and AOE is too. Both have run out of new material, look at CAC tiberian wars 4 and with AOE unless they want to go into the oversaturated "modern era" genre of games they are finished.

There was a game I used to play back in the days, it had infantry, tanks and more like your traditional RTS. However it had one thing I loved and havn´t seen since in RTS games, you had the ability to double click on group of units choosing all of the same type and rightclick to tell them to return to base at 75/50/25% health. I simply can´t remember the name of it though.

Empire Earth, Age of Empire, Age of Mythology, Paraworld, Black & White, Rise of Legends such great games. I wish there would be some modern successors. The last days I play Age of Empire 3 regularly again. Black & White 2 and Rise of Legends are new installed at my PC at least two time the year. Sadly I lost Paraworld and for Empire Earth, I'm an little afraid that it won't work on Windows 10 if I would buy it again.

Unless you mean the exact titles, many of your mentions are not forgotten at all. Europa Universalis 4 had its latest dlc one month ago, Master of Orion got a sequel/remake, Total Annihilation got a sequel called Planetary Annihilation and Dungeon Keeper has a spiritual successor in the game War of the Overlord. Even Dune isn't forgotten in a way since the release of OpenRa. Also, two titles that were worth a mention are Warlords: Battlecry and Conquest: Frontier Wars.

I played it when I was 5-6 and I didn't know what I was doing but liked it anyway... about half a year ago I downloaded it back and though I could bring my memories back.now I undestand it more and play it still and think it's one of the best Strategy games I've ever played and still playing...sadly without multiplayer (it's hard to set it up to work)

"Spellcross" is almost unknown, yet is probably the one outside of Starcraft that i have played the most. Turnbased both strategically and tactically, where you have modern military units, and the enemy has a horde of orcs, dark elves, harpies, undead, and a bundle of other more or less nasty stuff that they used to invade earth and smash apart almost everything before game starts.

+TrueWOPR And what of Planetary Annihilation? For all it's flaws, it's scope, and true galactic scale warfare were absolutely mind boggling, and breathtaking to behold. I mean constructing tons, and tons of rockets to an entire planet pushing it out of orbit, then altering it's trajectory and watching as it hurtles into your opponents home planet. A million souls suddenly screaming out in agony, and suddenly silenced...That alone was worth the price of admission. It had flaws, yes. Still Planetary Annihilation is the real successor to Total Annihilation. Upping the scales a million fold. And the expansion Titans looks to push the scope further.

They have a terrible habit of half making a game, charging people for it, then if it takes off finishing the game about 75%, rereleasing it (rather than patching or giving DLC) then moving on to a new project with no updates for the previous. Edit: CORRECTION, they canceled the Human Resources project because people started seeing this pattern of theirs and stopped funding them. Emperor of the Fading Suns was amazing, it was a DOS hex game but take Land/Planet battles from Epire at War, a storyline comparable to Dune, and strategic depth of Master of orion where mere conquest is not the path to victory (but it helps) and you have one massive game.
