heres an idea: the rocket hits an area on the map like moisty, and destroys it making water flow in. however, this lowers the ocean level enough that the bonus island is above water, and has the rusty resort and musty museum but no mountains. when it first comes above water, theres lots of seaweed and stuff on the locations, but over time epic updates the map to clear out passages and fix up the area.
