Yes, I kind of like "Pick Yourself Up" myself. Believe it or not, I first heard that song on "Captain Kangaroo" when I was younger. It was sung by a chorus of men and was accompanied by film footage of birds learning to fly. But I never knew until years later that the tune was originally from an Astaire and Rogers movie.

I met Ms Rogers back in 1972 i believe, she was still so pretty and very sweet to me! It was some kind of special thing going on in Huntington Beach where I lived, my daughter was 2 months old and Ms Rogers commented on how cute she was. My daughter is now 50! I wish I could remember what was going on, I was just going to the HB Mall to get baby clothes and happened to walk in the entry where they were setting up, I saw the sign, then her, she just looked so beautiful! it’s a nice memory to have.

RIP Fred Astaire (born Frederick Austerlitz) (May 10, 1899 - June 22, 1987)(aged 88) and Ginger Rogers (born Virginia Katherine McMath) (July 16, 1911 - April 25, 1995) (aged 83) you will truly both be missed and my prayers go out to you both and your families. Thank you for entertaining us all the years and you both make a beautiful and talented dancing pair.

Whenever I see these two, all I can think of is a quote my old dancer teacher said, "Sure he (Fred) was great, but don't forget that Ginger Rogers did everything he did…backwards and in high heels." I later learned that this wasn't something original she'd come up with, but a quote from a very, very old comic strip. xD

That dance is iconic and one of my fave dances of theirs bc it has a part where there are tables around them and in each one he puts his leg up and then swings her around and land perfectly on each chair. 1. "I'll Be Hard to Handle" (Roberta) is one of the few numbers they did together - the only one? - where their tap-dancing was recorded "live"... which is why you can hear Astaire's impromptu vocal sounds as well. After that, the sound of their tapping would be dubbed later by Hermes Pan. 2. The omission of "Let's Face the Music and Dance" (Follow the Fleet) and "Pick Yourself Up" (Swing Time) is unfortunate.

That’s interesting I didn’t know they were dubbed all along after that, so many sequences together though, the true grit and charm they both have individually shines even brighter when they dance together!! The best description for Ginger Rogers' talent: She did everything Fred Astaire did - in high heels and backwards. Who else could tap dance with wheels on their feet? Donald O'Connor in 'I Love Melvin' (1953) and Gene Kelly in 'It's Always Fair Weather' (1955), though 'Shall We Dance?' preceded both by quite a bit.

I agree with most of these, though I'd drop the "Barkleys of Broadway" numbers in favor of "Pick Yourself Up" {"Swing Time")and the scintillating dance contest number from "Follow the Fleet." And I'm partial to the beautiful dream sequence from "Carefree." As they leap from one giant lily pad to another and he swings her around it's romantic and glamorous and, well, carefree! I"m glad you included as an honorable mention "I'm Putting All My Eggs in One Basket." It's so witty and it must have been so hard to get the "wrong" timing just right. "Dancing Cheek to Cheek" is my no. 1, too.

How could you possibly make a list of the greatest dance numbers by Astaire & Rogers and NOT include Pick Yourself Up from Swing Time and Lets Face the Music and Dance from Follow the Fleet? I mean you even left it out in the Honorable Mention section. How ridiculous. Those two numbers are generally regarded by serious dance critics and dance historians, along with Cheek to Cheek, as their three masterpieces. Overall the list was good but without those two additions it wasn't great.

You guys should make a video of top 10 male female (musical or not) classic Hollywood movie duos! Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland should be on that list! Along with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. I also enjoy Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn's chemistry in movies, as well as Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, great chemistry, they even got married to each other ❤️. 🙂 Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds were great too in Singing In The Rain.

During the Cheek to Cheek dance..Fred wasn't aware of the dress that Ginger picked out to wear. The feathers that were on the dress constantly were flying off & getting in his eyes, mouth & face & he was getting so frustrated. "Cheek to cheek, still so complete, still so replete." "Exquisite & supreme. A pair beyond compare." "Emotion & devotion, ever so meaningful and movingly expressed." "With that perfect partner, dance is so much more. So much more." "To prance, or really dance, that is the question. In Fred & Ginger, you have the answer." ~ Paul Jung

When I hear the song ‘I’m in heaven’ I think of the scene in the Movie, ‘ Shawshank Redemption’ when John Coffee is watching the movie Top Hat.
