This tiering list was the first Ive seen in the board game area. I really enjoyed both videos. Ive only played Azul Queens Garden from your list, which i absolutely love. I own Mille Fiori and Verdant, but yet to play either yet. Maybe i should try to learn 1 of these next. Games that are on my "learn more about list" include Planet Unknown, Applejack, Maui, Heat, and Sea Salt and Paper. And Fyfe is def one I want to buy. Thanks for sharing your 2022 list. I especially loved pausing at 32:38 to see all the games listed.

Really interesting look back. Your gaming tastes don’t align with mine but I liked how varied your top 10 picks are. For me, Mille Fiori rose in ranks after each play. Very fun!
@AllYouCanBoard11 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching both videos! Especially with our tastes not aligning. It's tough to rank those small box card games against bigger games but I think it's important to showcase those games too, because even though something like Hot Lead isn't going to be a first choice when I get together with my main group, it's still a hit every time in the right situation. What were some of your top games from 2022?
@steveg993911 ай бұрын
@@AllYouCanBoard To be fair, I should have said "our taste do not completely align". I love Guild of Merchant Explorers, Long Shot Dice Game and Mille Fiori which I also love. I held Ceasar's Empire in my hands but decided not to pick it up because it looked too "entry level" but after your video, I'm thinking about buying it. BTW my best and most played games from 2022 were Sea, Salt and Paper, Akropolis, Heat, Turing Machine and my number 1 game...Carnegie!!

I hope to play your “S” tier games at some point. The Knizia one has a very attractive table presence. Seeing in your presentation that “ Hot Lead” has characters on cards toting handguns, I’m guessing the game title is pronounced as “Hot Led” as in bullets ( made out of lead) just fired ( hence “ hot”). But perhaps not.
@AllYouCanBoard11 ай бұрын
Haha, I would've thought so too! But in the first page of the rulebook it specifies that it's pronounced the way I said it. It works two ways because as a police officer you can have a LEAD (pron. LEED) on a crime. But they definitely named it that way on purpose to cause some confusion.

Thank YOU for watching and for the kind words! I didn't expect Guild to hang onto a spot in the top 10 either because my favourite games tend to have more player interaction, but it's just such a good game, such a crunchy puzzle to work through every time.

Sad thing with Caesar's Empire is the publisher went bankrupt over a year ago so hard to get atm. The day they announced it I went online and ordered this game as I had it on my "buy later" list.

never heard of caesars empire until i saw this and your top 50 of all time. seemed like a game thats right in my wheelhouse. picked it up because of you and was just wondering what you think of the replay-ability. do you think it could become samey after a while? thanks brother!
@AllYouCanBoard10 ай бұрын
So far I've played it around 7 or 8 times and I've tried it at all player counts. It hasn't felt samey at all yet, because the random distribution of the treasure tiles changes the map each time, and people tend to play a bit differently each time too. I don't think it'll have the same replay value as games like Agricola or Tigris & Euphrates, just as two examples, but because of how quick it plays I also don't expect quite that level of depth and replayability. I hope you like it once you get to try it.

Taught myself the game a few nights ago with a solo 2 handed play and I can really see the masterclass in depth of decision space vs simple ruleset (very Knizia-esque). Should hit the table at multiplayer soon. When to pursue your own sets vs when to block opponents’, you described it perfectly…its agonizing lol

I'm loving his games too. Haven't tried Findorff yet but I own it so I plan on trying it early in 2024. Either way, it only became available in North America in 2023 so I'll be considering that one for my 2023 games video(s).

Calling Caesar's Empire "cartoonish" the whole video without mentioning that it's got an incredible, stunning, spot-on Asterix and Obelix theme is just mind-boggling. Not a single mention of them or the Gauls. An IP with a game that's really good is not terribly common. Look at those roman centurions, they are amazingly true to life and I feel like they're about to animate and walk at any moment. Please tell me that there's something in this game where if you meet some Gauls from a certain quaint village then your efforts at building routes gets suddenly and magnificently messed up. =)
@AllYouCanBoard10 ай бұрын
Fair comment, but keep in mind we often talk about the same games in multiple videos and we do our best not to just repeat ourselves and say the exact same things about each game every time they come up. In a prior video I highlighted the Asterix & Obelix theme and drew attention to it but I'm not sure if you saw that one. That's one issue with KZbin - between returning viewers and new viewers, you simply can't please everyone. If I had mentioned the theme again here I might get comments saying I already talked about the theme enough in a prior video, but instead it looks like I'm glossing over something that should be touched on in the video. Either way, I acknowledge that I could've brought it up just briefly, because as you said it's really well-done. Thanks for watching.

Thanks! Good to know the audio was fine. And yeah, Dice Realms is definitely a "try before you buy". Some of my plays have been like "man this game is incredible", and other ones have been more like "that was pretty good but maybe I didn't need to buy this". But either way, it's addictive and I always want to keep playing it, it's so quick once you know the rules well.

Would Mille Fiori occupy the same space as Witchstone in a collection? It's my combotastic go to.
@AllYouCanBoard11 ай бұрын
Fair question but not quite. Mille Fiori has a LOT more player interaction, and we (Dylann and I) both think Mille Fiori is a much better game. Plus, the rules are even easier to explain, and it's probably a shorter game too. Witchstone is fun for sure, but I think Mille Fiori is on another level. I think I had Witchstone in my B Tier when I did this style of video for my 2021 games.

Free ride is the most unplayable game of the year for me It’s a great tool for geography class, something I never was interested in. It’s a shame that a game clearly inspired by TTR fails to color code the zones and cards. I’m still not sure how this ended up WAY above Carnegie, lol 😂
@AllYouCanBoard11 ай бұрын
Haha, fair enough. I really thought I'd like Carnegie more, we ordered it on Kickstarter so we spent over $100 on it. It looks fantastic (Ian O'Toole knows what he's doing obviously), but I just found it too complicated for what it is. Too many of the mechanics just felt bland to me. But I did really like managing the business/departments and moving employees around. Re: Free Ride - if my European geography was worse I would probably agree with you. But I'm Portuguese and I've been to Europe a bunch of times, and follow European soccer (football) quite a bit so naturally my geography there is decent. I've seen on BGG that a bunch of people coloured their board and cards with markers to colour-code everything... I'm not sure I'll ever do that with my copy but I get why some people would find it unplayable as it is. Seems like a massive oversight by the publisher to present it that way. It's a real shame because I think the game is really good. Thanks for watching!
