I love love love my Celtics, but I have to give it to 90's Bulls for the best NBA dynasty. More teams, better players and competition, and a more physical game made it harder for the Bulls to win all those titles, but they still did it. I'd put any of those teams against any other team in NBA history and I'd bet they'd come out on top. This comment was brought to you by FanDuel

it's awesome that you included the Oilers =) as for Gretzky like you guys said it wasn't his highest scoring season that year 1983-84 wasn't Gretzky's first time he reached over 200 points in a season that was his 2nd time. He reached 212 points in 1981-82 (which in fact at the time was his best season) he did have his highest scoring season that year goals-wise with 92 goals & after 1983-84 he racked up to more seasons with over 200 points he reached 208 in 1984-85 & he beat his previous 1981-82 record in 1985-86 with 215 points his best season in his entire career that same season he also had his best season in assists with 163 assists that season :)

Very true. Great dynasty were the New Islanders of the 80s.
@Milordvega8 жыл бұрын
I notice the dynasties mentioned cover a specific period (such as a decade) but you could extend it to cover various decades of dominance, or mention how the same franchise could have had more than one particular period of dominance: 1. Even before the 1950's, the NY Yankees were already dominant for many seasons before that: from 1936 to 1949, they won 8 World Series titles in 14 seasons, including 4 straight from 1936 to 1939 which were Joe DiMaggio's first 4 seasons in the majors. From 1936 to 1964, the Yankees won 16 World Series titles in 29 seasons, plus a total of 22 AL pennants. That's nearly 30 years of sustained excellence. You could even add their 4 titles and 7 AL pennants in the 15 years before that, when they were led by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, for a total of 20 World Series champions and 29 pennants in 44 years. Incredible. The greatest franchise in US sports history. 2. Same principle would apply to the Montreal Canadiens. No, they were NOT in EVERY single Stanley Cup Final in the 1950's (they weren't in the 1950 Finals but did make 10 straight Finals from 1951 to 1960). If you extend their dominance from the 1950's (5 Stanley Cups) to include their 4 titles in the 1960's plus 6 titles in the 1970's (including 4 straight from 1976 to 1979), the Canadiens won 15 Stanley Cups fron 1953 to 1979 or 27 seasons. Sustained excellence for nearly three decades, like the Yankees. If not the Yankees, then they surely are the greatest team in North American sports history. 3. Before they went to Los Angeles, the Lakers were in Minneapolis and after they won the 1947-48 title in the old National Basketball League, they joined the established NBA and became the NBA's first dynasty, winning 5 of 6 championships from 1949 to 1954. As for their Boston Celtics rivals, while the Lakers were the greatest dynasty in the 1980's, the Celtics were actually more impressive earlier in the decade, or from 1980 to 1986, when they won 3 championships in 7 seasons - including having the best NBA regular season record in 6 of those 7 years. Incredible when you count how great the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers were in that period too. The Lakers of course went on to win additional championships in 1987 and 1988 and that's why they overtook the Celtics for best team of the 1980's. But we shouldn't forget how great the Celtics were in that decade too. Boston did reach the NBA Finals in 1987 and had the second best regular season record in the NBA in 1988. They weren't too good in 1988-89, but Bird was injured that season. And then there are these other dynasties. Some of them were mentioned as honorable mentions, but they could easily have been included in the top 10 list as well: 1. The NY Islanders' 4 straight Stanley Cups from 1980 to 1983 (and a 5th Stanley Cup Final appearance in 1984) can't just merit an honorable mention in my opinion. 2. The Cleveland Browns were the best football team in America from the late 1940's (4 titles in old AAFC) to mid-1950's (3 NFL titles between 1950 to 1955). If that doesn't count because it was prior to the Super Bowl era, we could put in the Green Bay Packers, who won 5 championships in the 1960's, including the first 2 Super Bowls, under probably the greatest coach ever in Vince Lombardi. 3. The San Antonio Spurs were title contenders in EVERY season of Tim Duncan's career, from the 1997-98 to the 2015-2016 seasons. That includes 5 titles between 1999 and 2014 (16 seasons). Not that much compared to the other dynasties, but you have to see the incredible regular season records as well of the Spurs all that time. No single regular season below 50 wins (or its equivalent in the strike-shortened 1999 season when they had the best regular season record and won their first title). They should have won 6 titles, but Ray Allen hit that shot in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Final. They never had a repeat as champions, but 5 titles in 16 seasons is an excellent record. 4. There was mention of the 1970's Cincinnati Royals, but the images in the video seemed to show instead that of the Baltimore Orioles, who had their own dynasty from 1966 to 1983 (18 years), when they had competitive records every year, and won titles in the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's, the only team to win a championship in each of those decades. Three (3) World Series titles and 6 AL pennants (also 7 AL East Division titles, plus another 100-win season in 1980 when they didn't win the Division) during that long period. 5. Lastly, I know professional soccer isn't as big as the Big Four sports leagues in North America, but the New York Cosmos became the most famous US soccer club in history, signing Brazilian legend Pele and winning 3 of 4 championships in the North American Soccer League in the late 70's. In today's Major League Soccer, the LA Galaxy won 5 championships in 13 seasons between 2002 and 2014, plus were in the MLS Cup Final in 2001 and 2009. Greatest team in the league's young history.

+Exodia Would I consider e-sport a "real sport"? It's sort of right there in the name. As for pushing the human body to physical limits, I'm guessing you don't follow motorsports. Racing in general, at any level and in any form, requires a lot of you physically. You have g-forces to account for, weather, and your body is always trying to play catch up to what your eyes see. Watch in car footage of any racecar. The acceleration and sudden stops, hair pin turns, and the constant activity at the steering, all while your attention has to be on a million different things at once. And you literally have a split second to react or You end up in the wall or another racecar. While the physical exertion may not be as apparent as say football, it's still there.

I won't argue too much of the 1960s Boston Celtics, but the 1980s New York Islanders has to be the gold standard for the modern sports dynasty. They didn't just win four Stanley Cups, but won 19 straight playoff series on their way to the four consecutive championships, and nearly won a fifth Cup in a row (only losing to the Edmonton Oilers to begin their own dynasty). That may never happen again
@RedlegFan199 жыл бұрын

+RedlegFan19 Before the salary cap, teams could be stacked, because they would just pile all of the best talent onto a few teams. That's why the 80's 49ers were so dominant, they had more money to spend on the best players and keep them there. NE has been consistantly dominant for 15 years with a bunch of nobodies, even Brady was a 6th round pick (199th overall), making only $7M this season compared to Tony "Glass Shoulder" Romo who will pull in more than $27M.

They include The Patriots at #5 on the basis of longevity but The Spurs only get an Honorable Mention? Notice how they are the only "dynasty" listed that spanned 2 decades. Yea nuff said, but let me lay down some knowledge for you. Their 5 championships span 15 seasons. They've won 50+ games and made the playoffs in 18 straight seasons. They have one of the greatest coach-player combinations to ever exist in the NBA in Popovich-Duncan. They have the highest winning percentage of any team in NBA history. Not to mention they are poised to make several more championship runs in the coming years. I think it's a little silly to have them not even make the top 10. They deserve more than an Honorable Mention.

@sonicpsycho139 жыл бұрын
+mgraysonhay Accusations aren't necessarily based on reality. Spygate was based entirely on a new rule change on a common practice across the NFL; why do you think coaches cover up their mouths when they talk? Deflategate has been repeatedly demonstrated to be based entirely on the league's ignorance of 9th grade chemistry. Troy Vincent even came out to state that he doesn't know anything about how temperature affects air pressure, and doesn't believe it can have any affect, even though he bought a 200+ page bag job that says otherwise. Everything else is literally just teams crying about things that at the time were completely legal, like the tuck rule and running the same trick play 3 times in a row against Baltimore in 2015. Why don't you object to the 1980's 49ers? Jerry Rive even admitted to using Stick'um, a banned substance.

+sonicpsycho13 except this list specifically states the 2000's and not the post 2010's which the decade the Patriots won 3 rings and lost a superbowl isn't more dominant than winning five championships and appearing in 8 finals in what was deemed as the most competitive era of the NBA.

Montreal Canadiens are #1. Their dynasty ran nearly 3 decades from 1953- 1979. That's 27 years, 16 Stanley Cups, 19 Stanley Cup Final appearances, 1 run of 5 cups in a row ('56- '60), 1 run of 4 cups in 5 years ('65- '69), and 4 in a row ('76- '79), all the while only missing the playoffs once ('69- '70 season), which they barely missed (a solid season of 92 points). So the 1953- 1979 Montreal Canadiens should be at #1 with this insane run of consistency and domination

Considering that in today's era of the NHL, it is a lot harder to win 2 Stanley Cup Championships than it used to be. Only 3 teams in the Post-Lockout era have won at least 2 Cups (Blackhawks, Kings, Penguins), with 2 of them winning 3 (Blackhawks in '10, '13, '15 and Penguins in '09, '16, '17). In my opinion, both the Blackhawks and the Penguins of the 2010's should be mentioned.
