Kolmogorov, with no doubt , not only the best russian mathematician, but most important russian figure of 20th century. National hero... Treasure of whole manking.

Really thankful for Arnold's contributions. I'm a physics student but I find the use of differential geometry in dynamics and KAM theory very fun and interesting, despite what some other physicists may say about its actual usefulness. I've been checking a lot of his work lately

Euler spent much of his career in St. Petersburg. Don't you want to count him? 😂 After all, since 1945, they try to count Kant as a Russian philosopher.

@@ОбщийДоступ-я6г 😁👿Like Kant, I don't speak a word of Russian, so let's hope that Google-translate was at least close. I do agree with you on both points. But I really have heard such arguments about Kant (back in the 70s). In any case, the national lines were much less clearly drawn two or three centuries ago. Not only were the Romanovs partly German -- Katherine was totally German --, but many of the Russian Imperial bureaucrats (including the university faculty) were Germans -- or rather: native German-speakers, since there was no political entity "Germany" yet. That being said, I think a good case could be made that if there is any one field that completely transcends any national "belonging", it would be mathematics.
