Believe it or not, a Mini Jazzmaster, slinky heavy bottoms, drop D. Sounds great and satisfyingly different from the norm for doom stuff

My Squier Affinity HH Jazzmaster is a sludge machine. Drop C is my main tuning with Ernie Ball Ultra Slinkys. Something about the Fender neck scale just feels right for faster riffs.

I use my “Les Paul Killer” stock 1982 Yamaha SBG 500 with ABR-1 bridge, Ernie Ball 11-58 strings tuned to C Standard for those old school Static-X evil disco riffs.

I won a badass customized Cort CR300 from DOD/Digitech a few months ago and that’s the axe that got me into playing doom. Righteous Sound RAF Pickups with the stock GHS Boomers tuned to drop C. The thing just chugs. I’ve been dreaming of an SG ever since I started playing 20-some years ago but somehow have yet to scoop one up. Tony Iommi and Angus Young were both responsible for that.

My favourite guitars are my Dunable DE Cyclopse in Tobacco Burst (upgraded with an Kluson JG custom tailpiece and D'Addario Auto Trim tuners) and my FGN Boundary Iliad (Made by Fujigen Telecaster copy). Both guitars look like Japanese lawsuit guitars from the 70ies and I love that kind of style. I use both with D'Addario EXL117 (11-56) strings and tuned to dropped A#. After I got those guitars, I sold every other electric guitar I owned because they are that good. Trez from Mares Of Thrace used the FGN when we were on tour with them (as her GCI guitar had some troubles). She loved how that FGN played and didn't want to give it back. :D

Great content as usual Jason. I’ve been fortunate enough over the years to own a lot of different guitars. Lately my go to has been my LTD EC-1000 with the JB and 59 pickups, tuned to D and drop C with 11s into an Orange. One of the more oddballs I have is a MIJ fender jaguar that I put the Matt Pike Hesher pickups in, tuned to C standard with not even slinky’s. It’s a shorter 24 inch scale length but it feels really good. Also use a Gibson SG Gothic like the one you used to see Kirk Windstein playing, put some Lace Nitro Hemis in it and it really woke up….cheers!

I'm mainly a Punk and Psychobilly player and I have 20+ guitars. That said I have three guitars that definitely fit the Metal vibe which woul be my Schecter S-1 Elite (E standard), my Ltd Viper 300 with a Bigsby (again E Standard) and a Charvel Desolation DC-2 in smear blue (D Standard). I mainly play 11s on my solid bodies and 12s on my hollow bodies. My usual brands are D'Addario NYXLs and Stringjoys. I am mainly a Tele guy and I also play hollow bodies too.

The ESP ec series are my go to over lp because of the weight difference, plus they can go from doom to death metal without any problems, I use one on my own channel.

I have 25 guitars so I can't describe them all here. But I'd have to say my gem of the bunch is my Jericho Classic 6 (which they stopped making years ago) in a spalted maple top that I upgraded with some Matt Pike signature Lace Dragonaut pickups. She's obviously tuned to C standard.

At the moment, I have only an SG (.010-046, E standard/drop D) and my gear basicaly consists of an Boss Gt-1 effects processor. At sometimes I downtune to Eb standard, drop C# or C standard only to play some doom stuff, but most of the time I just play in E standard or Drop D, and even in these tunings I can play some doom metal riffs, and if there's a band that showed me that it's perfectly possible to make doom metal in E standard or Drop D, the Melvins are that band. Some of their early albums (such as Gluey Porch Treatments and Ozma) have the heaviest drop D riffs I've ever heard. Anyway, the Melvins are a great sludge metal band and greetings from Brazil

Epiphone SG classic with P90's. It's an Inverness green color and I use 12-54 strings. It's a cheap guitar only around 450$ USD. But the pickups sound great, and if you put a bit of work into it, It will play like a dream.

I’m currently playing a Jackson Dinky JS22 ( no Floyd just a two point trem, changed out the tuners and bridge saddles, humbuckers are being ordered. Tuning to drop C, D’addario strings 56-13.) These guitar is so comfortable. 👽❤️

My main riff stick is a modded LTD M-17, sanded the finish off, filled the neck pickup routing with resin, rattle canned it with a metallic grey base coat, and turqouise glitter bombed, cloear coated and threw a Fishman Steph Carpenter pickup in the bridge position and locking tuners. Right now trying the Dunlop Korn set (10-65) and tuned to G# standard (G# C# F# B E G# C#)

I've become a huge Harley Benton fan over the past few years and own 5 of em in tunings from E standard (CST-24 T, PRS copy), E flat (SC custom, closer to a ESP/LTD EC then a Les Paul), D standard (SC DLX, Gotoh hardware), C# standard (SC Custom Plus, EMG active pick-ups), and finally C standard (CST-24, non trem, in Fuzz Lord, Doom Purple). Totally love these guitars and really tough to beat for the money. I wont even get into the basses here as that collection is already at 10 and gonna grow even bigger (3 of these are also Harley Bentons).

Any guitar can be a metal guitar. I have an old Pacifica with an Invader clone pickup. The neck is perfect for me. Does it "look" like a metal guitar? I don't care.

And as soon as you add an EMG 81 to any guitar regardless of shape, wood, trem etc - through a high gain amp the sound is very very similar - you've basically turned your guitar in an EMG pickup

Love the list, couple of cool notes: Jimmy Page used a tele on the first 2 Zepplin records, and for the solo for stairway to heaven. Jim Root was a big user of teles later on as well. Les Paul also pitched a solid body guitar to Gibson before the tele came out but they sent him away, but they called him back up after the tele took off, leading to the Les Paul the SG was also called the Les Paul for a while but Les didn't like the look and had them take his name off. As far as the Dean ML, The guys from Trivium made pretty good use of them, but I think the guitar was so closely associated with Dime that a lot of people probably felt like they would be stepping on his toes.

I use the Epiphone Jerry Cantrell Wino, Hardluck Kings Strat, and a Squire Hello Kitty single hb Strat. I tune anywhere from E flat down to B using Heavey Bottom Skinny Top strings.

My favorit Guitar is my Ibanez Baritone, Tuning is an open E Tuning 1 Oktave lower than normal Tuning, i'm a beginner, Strings are daddario EXL-157 014-068. My 2nd Guitar is an Ibanez Iceman with Ernie Ball Mammoth Slinky Cobalt 012-062 Drop F Tuning. My Amp is an Ampeg V4B.

The LTD EC1000 with Evertune is my go to guitar. I use 10-46 DR Tite Fit strings in standard E, sometimes down to D. I need to buy a second guitar for drop tunings, as I like to use the LTD for standard. Will get something cheaper probably, a used Schecter is on my list, az well as a Squier Toronado, I just love the looks of it.

My go to is my own Build, it was thrown together from Multiple Kits, it's an Solid Carve top with a symmetrical Double LP style cut on both sides, set-thru neck with a Flying V style Headstock, both body and head with a Maple cap, Zero Fret, Tusq Nut, 24 Fret, and a single pick up route, a Warpig Neck pickup reversed around in the cavity routed between a traditional bridge and middle position with a Wilkinson trem I can lock down into a headtail on a whim, single volume and Tone with a push pull on each for splitting each coil or spilt in unison as two single coils Her Name's Charlene, Same as Pvt Piles Rifle From FMJ, and she's a Lean Mean Riffing Machine
