I think Glee definitely deserved #1 on the list. Mostly because it isn't just a heartbreaking scene in a show where the actors are faking their sadness to tell the story on the show, it is actors that aren't acting, that are showing real sadness over a costar and friend who lost his life. I think the fact that just knowing it was a real person that died, not just a character death, makes it one of the saddest. The other ones are sad, too, because you fall in love with the characters, but when it's a real person it hits a lot harder, at least for me.

The Buffy episode was a heartbreaker but I had just lost my oldest son--a Fin lookalike no less--the year before Cory Monteith died. That show mirrored what my family was going thru. When Fin's mom says "Am I still a mom?" it punched me in the gut. I also said like Kurt "I prefer to think how he lived instead of how he died" Sometimes TV can help you heal or at least know that other people felt the same way

Watching “The Quarterback” episode I cried the entire time I was balling my eyes out... when I first heard about his death I thought it was another one of those sick hoax deaths but then I started to google and everything and when i saw it was true I was so saddened and to think about how much pain his Glee crew went through I know it was hard for him but for Lea I mean they were engaged and gonna get married the amount of pain she had to deal with I’m sure was unbearable.

Finn’s death affected me the most. It was one of the few REAL LIFE unexpected deaths of television. The fact that a beautiful soul was taken away and that all of the tears in that episode were real really gets to me. RIP Cory Monteith ❤️

Please, don't say it like that. He was not taken away. It was drug overdose. He was adult taking drugs. This is not 1970s, he would have known the risks. He made a choice to take them. His choice. He wasn't killed or died of illness he couldn't do anything about. I'm not saying it's a good thing, but I don't like how people disregard how he died, because they wouldn't feel as sad if they heard about any random drug addict overdosing somewhere under the bridge or in back alley. There is no other difference beside him being famous. If every such death affects you this much, my apologies, but before you retort angrily, really think about it.

Taking drugs and overdosing might look like a choice from the outside but in reality someone who suffers from a mental illness simply can't think straight and make rational decisions. When a long-term smoker dies from lung cancer that's also due to their choices and actions but I'm still gonna feel sorry for them. Do people who made a few bad choices not deserve any sympathy for their suffering?

Sheriff Forbes’ death still haunts me. Hers and Candice’s (Caroline) performance blew me away and when Carolina sang that song at her funeral I couldn’t get it out of my head for days. It bothered me to no end that we never got to see Sheriff Forbes last words to Caroline in the letter because Caroline’s humanity was off and she burned the letter :(

ParaMC Sam I don't think you can't compare. I have cried with other TV shows, man, when Sammy died in Dance Academy I spent 4 episodes crying and I still cry sometimes when I go back to watch it. But it's different from Glee... as much as I loved every character and I loved Finn, Cory Monteith was a real person. A real, lovely and kind person who ultimately could not fight his adiction no matter how hard he tried (he started drugs when he was like 13... at that point is really hard to leave them). It hurted then and it hurts now, to remember that most of the episode isn't really acting.

YES! I cried more with that than when Keith died! And Keith was one of my favourite characters! I think it was because he was so young, and he had a long life ahead of him until that moment. Also, that moment before he's shot, you can see that he knows he's about to die. Plus, the fact that he had such an amazing friendship with Jamie made it so much harder! But also, he was a lot like Nathan. He started out a jerk, but changed and became an amazing person! So the fact that he was so much like one of the main characters who we all love and have since like season 1 made it so hard... :'(

Sure, stiles saving scott was a sweet moment but I REALLY got chills when Lydia saw darak in the flames. Compared to that Alisons death was WAY MORE HEART BREAKING. The whole episode of the body from Buffy is still one of the saddest and most powerful death scenes I've watched. The fact that there was no music really impacted you more than anything else could've. Oh, and Anya speech about not understanding death get's me every time!! (though Buffy is definitely more than just some teen drama, even if it started with everyone in high school) I would have also added Veronica Mars 2x22 the scene on the roof and Veronica thinking her dad died and her pointing the gun at Cassidy. “He killed my father, he killed everyone on the bus, he raped me" the way Kristen Bell delivered those lines was heart-wrenching!

Totally agree about buffy. It has maybe 4 really big sad moments/episode. The most prominent and sad being the body. In addition to that, Buffys death in the gift, buffy killing angel, and lastly, and this one affected me so much. Spikes Sacrifice, and Buffy finally telling him she loves him, and him not believing her.Buffy: "I love you."Spike: "No you don't, but thanks for sayin' it."

Sure, many of these were heartbreaking, but the scene that has been the most soul crushing, depressing, and real was Buffy's mom dying. The way that episode was made was so visceral, and so unglamorous that it hit right home. Including how the 'vampire slayer' is at her wits end, first puking, then trying to fix her mom's skirt as the paramedics arrive, and how she has to tell Dawn and she breaks down in a soundless scene all of her class get to watch from outside the window. How did that not make it to #1, or at least #2, considering Corey Monteith, I do not know.

I agree with Glee being Number 1 but I think One Tree Hill should have been Number 2 because of how much it impacted the show. For the life lessons it taught us. You should always take the time to get to know people because you don't know what they are going through. Seeing Brooke break down and cry made me cry. I hate that Keith had to die for the Tree Hill gang to realize what they had done to the people around them.

interestingly here in the UK, they were airing it at like 6pm so couldn't air the shooting ep at that time, so just didn't show it at all. Very confusing to watch the ep after it without this one first. The next season they would do the same thing but put the more adult ones on at 10pm as a special rather then just miss it completely

While the school Shooting is one of the saddest moments in One Tree Hill, there is another that rivals it. After the state championship when Dante hits Haley in an attempt to kill Nathen and the shock of seeing Haley lying in the street causes Lucas to have a heart attack. I think "I will remember you" ending is sadder than angel dying. He erased an entire day where he was human, and no body, including buffy, kept their memories. He could have been selfish and stayed human, but he sacrificed everything. Also, buffy's mom's death kills me. Especially when Anya, Tara, Willow and Xander are in Willow's dorm room and she's trying so hard to find her sweater...and Anya is just incapable for understanding joyce's death. She represents in that moment innocence lost or a child's interaction with death. On the surface she's a demon who cant cope with death being permanent, but I believe Joss was using that for a metaphor for children/anyone who has never dealt with loss before.

I think Jimmys ranks high because it was the first DTNG moment that was a big shock. All the other moments after seemed like they were just trying to top the shooting with an actual death, ie JT. I've only seen Manny's abortion episode once, so I dont remember how it was shown to be "sad" or if they just faded to black or something. Jimmys shooting was sad to me because of everything leading up to it. Rick, everyone's reaction/sympathy to the prank, the fact that Jimmy was lied on and was punished for something he had no part of - all of that makes it really sad to me.

A much as the moment where Buffy kills Angel still packs a punch I have to say the body beats it by miles. The reactions of the entire cast is heartbreaking even Spike who was arguably still on the side of evil was in pain when Joyce dies. I still can't watch it without crying my eyes out. And the fact that it wasn't a demon or monster but a perfectally natural death makes it even more powerful.

I mean, even Buffy dying for her sister was more emotional than Buffy having to kill Angel (especially with what we discover later!). It was dramatic don't get me wrong, but um in all of Buffy's run it wasn't the most traumatizing/the saddest part of the show... Idk maybe it's because of how rotten their relationship turned when Angel got his spin-off but I was never that attached to Bangel and Angel was certainly not the most important person in Buffy's life.

Like addiction with willows magic and the stuff with spike and buffy and obvs Tara's death as that was human not supernatural doing so it happens every day in the real world. Season 6 was a tough one. Seeing Red is by far the toughest episode of Buffy to get through hands down. Its so raw and real and horrible.

When I read the title- the first thing that went through my head was Marissa's death and Ryan carrying her off from the burning car (the O.C.) - I cried so hard when that happened and totally agree with it being in the top 10. Glee too - what was so heartbreaking about that one is you knew that none of them were acting with the grief (since it was real) especially his fiancee in real life and girlfriend on the show. So very sad...

1. Ask any true degrassi fan and they will all tell you JT dying was the saddest event to happen to degrassi. This show has so many sad events, every season. And you happened to pick Jimmy getting shot and put into a wheel chair? Sounds like you're name dropping drake. Rick died. Sean felt his blood drip down him. His description of it was heart breaking and you focused on Jimmy? 2. Pretty little liars had a lot of heart breaking moments. I think Allison losing her mother was the saddest. 3. Buffy the vampire slayer and you picked boring angel as the saddest? I was glad to see him go. He was annoying. I can think of far sadder events. Like Joyce dying. That is spoken about by the characters and writers with such depth and you pick angel? What about Tara dying? Hell, even Spike dying.

Exactly. Angel thing was sad but none of us is very likely to have to kill our vampire boyfriend. The Body was such a real and devastating episode. Coming home and seeing your loved one dead is terrible and can happen to anyone. I have never cried so much over TV show.

Glee was absolutely right to be #1.. There was no much acting required. Buffy's mom death was horrible from all sides. I remember how traumatic this was. There was one missing, Teen Wolf.
