Does anyone remember the final narration for the episode “Final Atonement”? “And so one of the Earth’s greatest warriors has vanished in a blinding flash of light, having made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of his loved ones. His name… was Vegeta. A proud Saiyan Prince.” I highly doubt that Toriyama Sensei thought he could ever outdo himself when he wrote the ending to the cell game saga. He sure as hell outdid himself when he wrote this scene!! Edit: I just watched the same for the first time in Japanese and it is just as heart wrenching. The narrator says more or less the same thing. Krillin’s yell at the end really hurts. You can hear the anguish in his voice as he yells Vegeta’s name.

I am 34 yrs old now, however back in 1998 when I was 11 yrs old. I grew up out of watching All Cartoons. All that is except for Dragon Ball Z. When I watched Vegeta tell Goku about his childhood, and die at the hands of Frieza, I cried. That's how impactful that moment was. Vegeta's death brought me to tears. I felt every bit of it. That's what makes Dragon Ball Z the greatest cartoon of All-Time.

This show was my childhood and frieza saga was the first I watched of dragon ball. For the first time you could relate to Vegeta. He wasn't a good guy by all means, but it gave you some insight into why he was like he was. That scene always sticks out to me.

It was good but I felt Piccolo changing the moment to save Gohan in saiyan saga was good as he was still kinda evil and all his memories with Gohan went through his mind he basically was in tears telling Gohan he was the only friend he had on the verge of death. Vegeta stood no chance and had to give us his life to save it from buu over his stupid mistake and selfish pride for me is the reason he doesn't get number one.

Vegeta and Goku’s deaths after realizing they’re mistakes put everyone at risk made it all the more heartwarming when they threw in their lives to try and fix it And Piccolo throwing himself in the way of Napa’s attack to save Gohan solidified himself as not only one of the good guys, but he’s done this not once, but twice, showing his true compassion for his student and friend And oh Boy, Gohan followed his steps, the Future Trunks world one, where he knows there’s gotta be something to push Trunks over that limit, but he can’t let him go in and die, otherwise, the world is lost, and it gives one of the most heartbreaking deaths in the show And it’s easy to sit there and say that death has no actual toll in Dragon Ball, but there are limits to what the dragon balls can bring back, such as a Natural death by means of a disease or age, the only reason anyone else is brought back is because they were killed But this does not mean the reason they were dying for, has less meaning

Two aspects would make this list way more impactful. One, if the person sacrificing their life couldn't be wished back. Two, especially for #1 and #2 for this list, that the sacrifice actually killed the villain. It makes the sacrifice so much better like when Goku first died because Radditz certainly didn't live through that.

I think so too. Seriously, Goku's a true warrior. ❤ He can be beaten, tortured and even die temporarily and he'll still get back up. As his son Gohan said himself, Goku's a hard man to keep down. 😊 Even when it's clear he's going to die, Goku makes sure to die doing what he does best, fighting and trying to save the world. ❤ But what I find most admirable is the fact that Goku has always stared death in the face with a stoic smile. Instead of cowering in fear as many people would and understandably so, He just says his goodbyes if possible before he stares death directly in the face, smiles stoically and basically says or communicates in a way that says "Let's do this." And you can't get any braver or more badass than that. 😎 It's one of the many reasons why I love Goku so much. 💖
