@@tylerdavis6389 They have a nice coop Alien game called Alien: Fate of the Nostromo. It's not the heaviest game in the world and it's mostly pick up and deliver but there's a cool encounter deck that helps the game keep the tension level up. The minis are just fabulous and players all have difference skills kind of like Horrified. If you enjoy light games I recommend.

Played Mansions for the first time on Sunday and I highly recommend though the cost is prohibitive (thankfully I played a friends copy). The only two things we had issue with was getting our tablet to cast to the TV (thanks Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc. for making that nearly impossible) and at the price point I expected better quality minis.

I picked up Horrified earlier this year and love it. One of the things that I like is that one of the village characters is named "Wilbur and Chick". They are the two main characters in my favorite horror film, "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein". I'll be playing the game solo with the three Hollywood monsters that were making their swan song: Dracula, Frankenstein and Wolfman. The Invisible Man was a small character at the end so I won't do anything with him. He's like John Cena anyway, you can't see him.

I think there needs to be one more thing said about Dread: Each player also has the option of the heroic sacrifice, tipping the tower over on purpose to succeed on what they were doing, but dying in the process. It's a mechanic that has so much impact in this game, do you keep going until it can't no more, do you take one for the team to get them towards the 'goal', or do you save it for that one crucial moment when everything seems lost?
@samhayden602 жыл бұрын
Was expecting to see Mysterium on this list, it's a bit spooky, especially with the expansion that changes the weapon for last vision cards.

I agree it's spooky and a great game, but I don't think it fits the "horror" description. As not a big horror person though it's one of my favorite games for Halloween. I just got Mysterium Park, and love having it as a complain to my big box Mysterium. Will have to look into that last vision expansion though since that sounds interesting!

I'm a big fan of Arkham Horror LCG. Bar the RPG game itself I think this game best captures the feel of the Mythos.. when you 'win' a campaign with the barest sliver of sanity or health left it's a great feeling.

Yeah, betrayal can go sidewise, we had a haunt that is very dependent on how many tiles had already been drawn and got it on the second haunt roll. It was a very short game
@MiSTSYL2 жыл бұрын
I've had a similar thing happen in Betrayal Legacy too, so it's definitely, unfortunately, baked in to the game design.
@CaptLoquaLacon2 жыл бұрын
It's one of those things where it would be nice if they tried to do an app that would dynamically balance a scenario based on what weapons had been found, what rooms were out etc
@nobodywantsthethimble2 жыл бұрын
They fixed that in Betrayal Legacy and At Baldurr’s Gate. In those, you roll dice equal to the number of Omens you have in play and you need to roll a 6 or higher to start the haunt. So you need at the very least three omen tiles on the board before the haunt could start. Technically, it could start on the third player’s turn, but it’s less likely.
@zergy552 жыл бұрын
Yeah I played Betrayal once and I lost miserably because the card I needed was at the very bottom of the deck so I had to grind through the whole deck while the bad guy just picked us off one at a time. Kinda sucked

From the makers of Last Night on Earth, I can thoroughly recommend A Touch of Evil. It's basically Sleepy Hollow as a board game, with some wonderfully atmospheric and evocative moments
@simpsonwizekid2 жыл бұрын
The Night Cage came out not too long ago, but man is it a fun game. The idea is that you and the rest of the playere wake up naked in a dark ever changing labyrinth. You only have a weak candle to illuminate the tiles around you as you navigate the maze trying to find keys that will open up the exit. Butyou're not the only thing in the maze. You encounter monsters that will snuff out your lighy, making you panic and possibly trigger more monsters in your state. The mechanics are simple, but it can get really hard real quick. There are even more things from the box you can add to the game to increase the difficulty. It's probably the most atmospheric game I've played recently too. I highly recommend it. Ive only played one game of Horrified: American Monsters, and while it was fun, I'd probably wait till they come out with a revised edition. There are a few typos in the game, and one of them might be considered game breaking.

About Eldritch Horror. In my experience it can go REALLY badly depending on the RNG and become a slog. Because you have to travel around the world it can take several turns before you can even begin to solve the mystery to any degree. At times we needed like 3 turns of preparation, 2 turns to get there. Only to get bad rolls and waste our resources. It didn't feel nice. There is this one miniboss as a mystery that teleports around after each combat. It ruined the whole game because we could not keep up with it. The game would really benefit from things like plane travel to certain parts at a higher cost. I haven't tried the expansions tho.
@CaptLoquaLacon2 жыл бұрын

Dread is, to this day, my favourite One-Shot system of all time. Because of how simple it is, the possibilities to mod it to your needs are absolutely endless. We've had nail biting moments like when one of my players risked 11 blocks to do something completely insane and pulled it off without the tower ever shaking. Or that one time when we had a player knock down the tower on the very first pull. It's one of the best systems to genuinely create a sense of urgency and, well, dread, to your players and I urge everyone to give it a try. Plus, the character creation is one of the best on any RPG system ever and we've officially incorporated it into all of our other games going forward.
