Have used all of those things, and still have most of them. But I went into Iraq with the Brits during Desert Storm, they issued some of their gear to us before going across the border. I really liked the 100ltr Norwegian Bergmans they gave us almost as much as my Large Alice Pack, and the Chemical Suits and Masks are much better in my opinion. Gave that Bergan away to a homeless guy I picked up hitchhiking, after using it for over six years after getting out of the Army.

Metal mugs from the USA? 1944 pattern issue, British forces. In 1981 we got issued them for our Belize tour. They came in the carrier with an aluminium water bottle. Awsome pieces of kit. I must admit that the P38 can opener is easier to use than the issued clasp or jack knife. If you ever got issued one! When I joined the British Army in 1976. 2 things were waterproof. The towels and the toilet paper! No kidding! Everything else had a porous side to it. The Chinese fighting suit.AKA quilted thermal jacket and trousers were great. Too hot sometimes. Even in Norway. Post Falklands. The ministry of procurement proved that they listened to no one. Issuing the terrible pointy pocket 1985 combat suit. It was something out of a Benny Hill sketch. The pockets fell off. Nothing stayed in the top ones anyway. Looked great on parade. Apart from the pant pockets, they tended to give a riding breeches silhouette with the side pockets sticking out. 1985 and later combats were much better. The 1968 pattern pants were warm but joined at the knee. Just like something out of Aladin! The 1st field dressing pocket was positioned so that if the anti- erection tea additive didn't work. It would put any thought of reproduction of the human race right out of the wearer's mind! 58 web 8ng was better than the plastic huge pouches. They held less and took up so much space on the belt that it could pass around the Bergan before being fastened! Really only compatible with a Sumo wrestler in mind! The SA80 didn't come with rifle grenades. It launched its bayonet instead. If the magazine could be found. Yes the M16 has finally been recognized as the rifle that should have been in general service since the 1960's! The USAF and the SAS got that right. Great production guys.

As a collector of field gear, ALICE LC-2 will always have a soft spot in my heart… my first set of webbing when I came in and whenever I could get away with it (1SG/CSM dependent, those who know, know what I’m talking about) I’d use M56 suspenders instead of the Y-suspenders… just distributed the weight better IMO. We got the 5 button sweater issued in submarines. We called it a submarine sweater go figure. We wore them over our shirts or coveralls(poopie suits) so got a couple sizes up. One boat the XO and COB thought using poncho liners would create less dust than our wool blankets and they did look sharp in berthing. problem was fire retardant they where not. We ended up giving them to the Marines(well most of them) .

Stoker, just a real world story about the entrenching tool used as a weapon. During my assignment to the 82d Airborne Division during the 1980s we had a CSM McKenzie who was the man behind the 1st Bn 319th FA Bn. On the wall of his office he had a walnut plaque, attached to that plaque were two items. An old wood handle entrenching tool and a brass plate that named a Fire Base in Viet Nam and a date. On that date a Staff Sergeant McKienzie had his howitzer crew filling sand bags around their new position on the hill. That night they wete attacked by a battalion of NVA infantry. During the battle SSG McKienzie ran out of ammo and looked around for a weapon. All he saw was that entrenching tool stuck in the sand by the bag pile. He grabbed it and when the enemy was reppelled it was discovered he had killed 13 NVA single handily with just the e-tool. I believe that was his most precious souviner of that tour, one of many. We young Sergeants respected the hell out of that man. I was in oplan meetings and watched junior officers give way to him when he arrived. He was truly a warrior's warrior.

Great video. Especially the Eagle in the intro…. Made me want to snap to attention and salute! 🇺🇸 I’ve been friends with Tom for a while now and his video came up in my feed first. But I gotta say, I think your list has the better items 🇺🇸 Two years ago, I finally replaced my Cammenga issued to me in 1980. It still worked, it just got a bit too cloudy. We called the P-38 a “John Wayne” because he was the only person who didn’t need to use it. Carried my A.L.I.C.E. Pack for ten years after I got out until some damn pog broke into my house and stole my entire kit. I bought my first Wooly Pully at 29 Palms in 1978. Never had a chance to get the button sweater. I would’ve gone with the canteen cup myself, for two reasons; first, I never got a flask. And second, I still have the first canteen cup issued to me in 1977. It is stamped 1967, and saw time originally (I was told) in the jungles of Vietnam. Although I’ve carry a basha for almost 25 years, I wouldn’t go anywhere without my military poncho. I have one in every kit, and in every one of my family’s kits. Just too damn important to not have. Thanks for this idea. I completely enjoyed both y’all’s videos. Semper Fi USMC (1977-1983) 🇺🇸
