I think the funniest think about JR is that he initially HATED "Good ol' JR" and the cowboy hat. That was something Vince wanted, and it took a long time for JR to finally embrace it. Also, while JR complains a lot about having Vince in his ear, JR just isn't the same without Vince. Whether it be AEW, NJPW, or NWA/WCW, JR always worked best in my opinion when his color commentator and/or Vince poked at him all night. JR had tremendous chemistry with Lawlor and Heyman, but the both of them (and Vince) were intentionally trying to rile JR up because he was at his best then. It's also crazy how many years JR worked for WWE without a long term contract. JR is first and foremost a businessman, a SHREWD businessman, and he literally worked for WWE on monthly contracts for several years because he and WWE couldn't come to an agreement. I love JR, but I try to keep in mind that Good ol' JR and Jim Ross are two different people.

Kinda sucks that you don’t get that kind of commentary these days. JR himself can’t put that kind of energy in that anymore, understandably of course.
