I sent Dragomino to my 5 year old niece for Christmas. Her family wasn't much into boardgames, but now, they're all playing Dragomino together: Grandpa, grandma, dad and mom...oh, and the 5 year old.

I bought Rhino Hero specifically to play with my niece but my regular gaming group spotted it and asked what it was and we played 4 games of it that night. Has become a regular palate cleanser in between our bigger games ever since. Going from Terraforming Mars to Rhino Hero to Inis is quite a varied and fun night!

I for one always sing the praises of Ghost Fighting Treasure Hunters, especially with the Creepy Cellar expansion, I've played almost 400 different games, and it is among my top 15 of all time. So much fun, so many stand up moments right at the end as you are rushing to get out of the house while hoping you don't get another -outbreak- err, haunting. Just great and surprisingly strategic.
@crithappens89833 жыл бұрын
@Ras137, Totally agree with you. My daughter and I play a lot of co-op games ( Nemesis co-op version, Project Elite, Zombicide) but we still play this quite often. The Creepy Cellar expansion really turns a “kids game” up a notch. We play two player with four characters. We’ve tried everyone get the treasures and get out, and two people get treasures and two control the haunts and it always comes down to the very end. We actually lose more often than win, seems like it’s always a mad dash to get out before the last haunt ends the game.

No Gamewright games? They are my go to for kids games that fine make me want to bang my head against the wall. Outfoxed, Trash Pandas, even sleeping queens for a simple card game. I've been eyeing dragonwood as well.

But would/did you ever play it with adults only, which was the basic assumption of this list? I did, but only to learn the rules. I certainly wouldn't do it again. (It's a fine kids game though.)
@davieturner3393 жыл бұрын
@@friedrichschumann740 : I have used it with adults as a short filler experience, the difference being you don’t choose your colour of gem, you turn them upside down and pick randomly, it only comes out incredibly sparingly, but it a light experience usually good for 2 or 3 goes before moving back to something else.

For me, The best 'not a children's game' that can be played with the smallest ages of children, AND with the benefit of grown-ups not having an advantage on them (at all, in most cases) is the card game 'illusion'. I'm able to explain it to a 4-5 year old child, and I play with them almost as equals (certainly at ages 6+). Also, I'm guessing it wasn't in the list because of how out of print it sadly is, but 'Gulo Gulo' is right up there with the rest of them. Mainly because, as you yourself said once, kids actually have the advantage, with their little fingers. So it's even more challenging for adults.
@thedicetower3 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree, but I've never seen a group of adults play it. It's great for adults to play WITH kids, but I've never seen it without.
@nshaw12993 жыл бұрын
@@thedicetower it's so rare nowadays, it might because of that. Especially with the weird Pharoah version they did. But still, the empirical data doesn't back my claim :-)
@Ras1373 жыл бұрын
@@nshaw1299 I'm confused are we not talking about Wofgang Warsch Illusion? because that's not rare, and a pharoah version? Like I said I'm confused.

@@Ras137 My comment was also about 'Gulo Gulo' and I'm guessing Tom answered me on that. Read the second part of my original comment. Don't think anyone considers 'Illusion' a children's game. It's just simple enough for them, and also is rather unique in the fact it doesn't pose an advantage for adults when playing.
@Ras1373 жыл бұрын
@@nshaw1299 My bad I didn't see the "read more" button, I was wondering why Tom had never seen only adults play illusion. Thanks, for clearing that up.
