If you like cleaning greasy dust you'll love open shelves! I love those dairy islands tho.

If you use oak it must be white oak. Red oak can go orange white will stay neutral. If you are staining them yourself consider using a glaz with a small amount of white paint to give you a french tone.

You can do wood on the floor with wood cabinets just lighten your flooring so there is contrast.

Waterfalls out of stone will make your kitchen look dated quickly not to mention the cost. I have been reading that kitchen designers are not using waterfalls much if they use the same stone on the backsplash.

Often the US videos mentioning Benjamin Moore. Is there anything special with their colors and paint, or is it just a good brand? We don't have this here in Norway

They have beautiful paint colors.

@ don't the US use color codes for their paint so anyone can make the specific color?

Yes, but since the paint bases are slightly different colors & different formulas, the color matching will usually be off just a little bit. Benjamin Moore paint is incredibly resistant to fading, has a particularly lovely patina, and is very durable.

Actually it shouldn't be off at all. They take the paint chip and put it in a machine and it tells them what base to use and the color recipe. Each paint is formulated to be used in a specific way and area. When you go to buy it tell them how you are going to use it. Flat paint shows every thing eggshell is easy to take care of and satin how a tad of sheen and gloss has shine. Eggshell on walls and satin on baseboards and trim and doors. Primer is always good but some paints include primer.

Sorry but Im going to disagree with your advice. I am a designer i did kitchens for years. My advice is if you are going to do a new kitchen get magazines cut out pictures of what you like and make a list. Designing a kitchen on whats in and whats out is just not the way to do this. After 10 years everything starts to look dated. Keep your style in mind. If you are contemporary then use a very contemporary range hood in stainless steel as well as your appliances. Think about how you use your kitchen not whether its in style or not. Manufacturers dictate style by what they manufacture. There is always something new and different. Make sure that you have plenty of lighting zones. And unless you are starting from scratch in your whole house the kitchen needs to flow with your style. Choose the styles and clors you like. An easy way to do this is to look in your closet. Your clothing color will tell the story. Any cabinet design center has designers that will help you. In the area I live in there was no design fees it was included in the sale of the cabinets and appliances. Dont be talked into something you dont like. The job of the designer is listening to what you want not selling you on whats in style. There is just no way to avoid dating your kitchen unless you want to change everything every few years but there are ways to make simple updates to give your kitchen a glowup without spending a ton of money.
