Tamilnadu has 30000 temples out of which almost 3000 are medium to big. Madurai Meenakshi temple is also very big temple with 4 towers and 1000 pillar hall. Kumbakonam town in Tamilnadu has minimum 52 big temples within 50 km radius. Worlds most richest temple is trivandrum temple.

The biggest FUNCTIONING Hindu temple in the world is actually at Sri Rangam, Tamil Nadu, India. This is a major pilgrimage destination for Hindus (especially Vaishnavites) and the largest temple complex in India. It covers an area of about 631,000 square meters (6,790,000 sq ft) with a perimeter of 4 km (10,710 ft ). Angkor Wat is bigger but non-functioning. Sri Rangam temple has 21 magnificent towers providing a unique sight to any visitor. Sri Rangam is 320 kilometers south of Chennai ( capital of Tamil Nadu state) The temple was built in the 9 th century AD. The temple was looted and destroyed by the Delhi Sultanate armies in a broad plunder raid on various cities of the Pandyan kingdom in the early 14th century. Currently world's biggest temple is under-construction in Mayapur, West Bengal, the birth place of Mahaprabhu Sri Chaitanya. The temple is being made by ISKCON and Mayapur is their h.q. But the way Americans and Europeans adopting Sanatan Dharma may be in this century world's biggest temple will be built somewhere in America or Europe. 🙏🏽

Ekadashi (11th day) started yesterday 8:51 in the morning ending today morning at 6:30; then dwadashi (12th day) started from 6:30 am and will end at 4:19 in the last night and then Trayodashi (13th day) will start. So, ekadashi, dwadashi and trayodashi in one single day that is today. It's a rare occurrence, spiritually very significant. But you missed it. 😢

I have seen jain temples do not allow anyone other than jains. And in South India there are some temples who only allows people wearing cloths according to the old civilization such as men do need to wear lungi(white cloth) and women in sarees. Also in gurdwara one should cover the head.

6:45 90% of the temples doesn't have restrictions to non Hindus or foreigners. Some restrict not on the basis of religion, but for other reasons like foreigners taking picture of the idols (I've seen western backpackers take selfie with the worshipping idol in a functioning temple) or visit out of amusement when it is actually very respected by devotees. But it is also true that there are some temples who restrict foreigners because of religious reasons, for them I say *cough* you. They don't understand Hinduism and never deserve to manage the temple. If God doesn't like people because they are different or from a different religion, what kind of God is that? No Hindu scriptures or text say anything about discrimination, infact all the holy texts like Vedas, Gita etc doesn't even talk about religion. Hinduism doesn't even have doctrines.

the most disspointing fact about lack of tall temples in northern part of India is because of Islamic invasions in the history of India where temples were destroyed completely but those invaders were not able to reach south India because as time called many kings, warriors stood up and defended the land and stopped the invasion before reaching the south India, but now India is working heavily on temple restoration and i hope all will be restored to their former glory

Guys, there is one more temple which is not in this list. It is the Kailasa temple of Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India. The only temple built by carving hills and is also built from top to bottom rather than the method of laying foundation building over it.

Most of the temple are in South India because nearly all the temples in north India was demolished by turks rulers and build mosques over them, nearly 42 thousands temples were destroyed and build mosques on them, Turkic invaders rule was very less in South India, and never got powerful but in north India several loot invasion and Direct islami rule from 1193-1745 nearly 550+ years result in no temple in north India is 250 year old but in South India you will find temples of 1000 to 1200 year old easily

Hindu temples are Energy centres primarily, and then places of worship. Devotees circumambulate clockwise (from top) around the main temple to get charged (many are not aware of this 😃). Praying is for various reasons, depending on individual's objectives. Idols are not inanimate. They are life-energized ('prana sthapana') by certain priests with specific chants on auspicious days & time. (This explanation is not for the woke crowd who can go fly kites 😆). Truth seekers experience it. 😃🙏

Idol Worship … (Excerpt from message of Shri Datta Swami) Statue or photo is inert object. Form carved in stone or painted on paper is also an imaginary form and not even a direct photo. The statues and photos are only models representing the concept, which is knowledge. The form of statues and photos is mainly human form, which represents the concept that the Lord always comes to this world in human form as said in Gita (Manusheem Tanu Masritam…). Please remember, Gita did not tell that Lord would come in any other form. Forms of fish, tortoise etc., were temporarily to kill the demons and nobody worshipped such forms during their time. But Rama, Krishna etc were the human forms worshipped by several devotees like Hanuman and Gopikas. Lord will come in every human generation; otherwise, He becomes partial to a particular generation. If necessary Lord can come whenever there is necessity as said in Gita (Yadaayadaahi…). Once this concept is realized, there is no need of temple and statue for you. You should go from school to college and then to university. This does not mean that when you leave the school, the school should be destroyed. School must exist for future batches. Therefore for you, statue and photo are not necessary and this does not mean that statues, photos and temples should be broken. They should be protected and must be respected as models of divine knowledge for future ignorant devotees. Some devotees cannot accept human form, which is before their eyes as said in Veda (Pratyakshadvishah). For such devotees statues and photos are necessary for meditation since they are at school level.Statues and photos are useful for the meditation of such limited minds as said in Sastra(Pratimasvalpabuddhinam).Veda says that the Lord does not exist in the inert objects (Natasyapratima, Nedamtat), but says that the inert objects can stand as models representing the Lord (Adityambrahmeti).So seeing and meditation upon the statues and photos are correct in the case of ignorant devotees.
