It seems you don't know what a " dam is". A dam is simply the wall where water collects behind. So yes, behind that wall is a lake, which means what we call " dams" are actually lakes

Kariba is definitely a lake! When a barrier of rocks and concrete is built across a river,the water that accumulates upstream or reservoir,becomes a lake,a man-made lake or artificial lake.
