They got that message from Marry Poppins all wrong. It's not saying women belong in the kitchen, it's saying parents need to rely on looking after their kids, instead of always relying on someone else to do it for them.

@DoctaDaKing9 жыл бұрын
+Ryan mcmorris Basically any movie/story with the "Save The Trees," "Forest Good/Military Bad," or anything involving destroying nature/native heritage for military/economical agendas. Movies like Ferngulley, Last of the Mohicans, Pocahontas, Dances with Wolves, or even real world events like the purging of Native Americans all have their plots pretty much reused with Avatar under the guise of admittedly good CGI. Take away the CGI and production value, and you have a recycled plot with boring characters, predictable story paths, and a political message about as masked as a Disney cartoon's

Avatar isn't masked at all. There's no nuance nor is there any subtlety. From the trailer alone, you could tell it was Pocahontas or Dances with Wolves with a sci-fi filter. X-Men also isn't maxed. It's fairly common knowledge that Professor X was based on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. while Magneto was based on Malcolm X. Even those who don't know that can easily tell that the franchise is about hatred and bigotry.

I'm surprised Who Framed Roger Rabbit isn't on this list. That movie heavily reflected on the demand for equality, and how life was like, before the Civil Rights Act was commenced. The toons in that movie were mistreated like the African Americans were, before the Civil Rights Act, where they were forced to live in their own town, away from the white folk, and they weren't allowed to enter late night clubs, unless they were performers. The movie also took place in 1947, which was before the Civil Rights Movement was formed.

What about "the purge" and "in Time" The hidden political message behind both films was pretty much highlighting the different luxuries between the lower, middle, and upper classes. In those movies, the only way to live or survive was to flat out be in the upper classes, while both the middle and lower classes suffered immensely. Basiclly stating people that belonged in the lower and middle classes are worthless (more of a disease according to those movies).

Also gotta add Star Wars Episode III revenge of the sith. Palpatine was sort of like Cheney, manipulating things around him to manufacture a war to gain power. Anakin was like Bush, just a pawn in the much smarter Cheney's/Emperor's game. Right before Anakin fights Obi-Wan at the end, he says "If you're not with me, than you're my enemy," echoing the George W. Bush quote "if you're not with us, you're against us." Obi-Wan responds "only a sith deals in absolutes." I think Lucas was calling Bush a sith and his whole administration the dark side.

I chose it as an example of high art from the 50's, and when I said that, the whole room laughed. When I was done, I had everyone completely won over! the message was lost because of the terrible title, but critics and historians often cite it for its rejection of the paranoia of its time. When I see the GOP candidates fear mongering today, I'm reminded of this film.

The underlying political subtext of Planet of the Apes was NOT "animal rights." The film came out in 1968 at the height of the Civil Rights Movement. It was released for general distribution just days after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. If anything, the film was about civil rights, not animal rights, with the apes symbolizing oppressed minorities, especially African-Americans. There was a great deal of backlash as well, with many being insulted at the comparison.

A guy decides to take three different women out to see a re-release of Snow White. After each date he asks the woman he is with what she thinks. The first tells him it was a story about how the world can some times punish people who are special and stand out from the crowd. The second tells him it's just a typical fairy tale meant to re-enforce the usual morals. True love wins out, good triumphs over evil etc. The third rails against it claiming it is anti-feminist propaganda. The ideal for women is that they be pure, kind, and beautiful. The one woman who tries to wield actual power is painted as evil. Snow White's enemy is another woman, and her problems are not solved by her own strengths, but she is instead rescues by a man. When the man is asked what he thinks he answers it's an example of what a man has to do to be with a beautiful woman. He has to be a handsome prince who is strong capable and willing to do whatever he has to for the woman he wants. If he happens to be a stumpy little dwarf then he is good enough to help her, but no matter how much he may care or how hard he may work he has no hope of being with her at the end. If you want the girl you have to be a handsome prince, if you're a dwarf you're getting friend zoned. All stories are open to interpretation. The moral often comes from the audience not the author. That's what fairy tales and classics are always being retold.

Okay, so I wasn't alone in that reading of "Mary Poppins." That's validating.

The Dark Night is one of my favorite movies, I didn't notice that political parallel when I watched it though, I think it's a bit of a reach. But when I watch it again, maybe I'll see it.

Yeah, there was nothing "THINLY VEILED" about Avatar. Also that movie was a rip off of Pocahontas and Fergully

movie No Escape has the biggest message. When Owen wilson and Pierce Brosnan were standing on the roof top while hiding in night, there conversation has a very dark political message. Pardon my english

Hotel Transylvania 2 definitely should've been at least #2 on that list. They have the whole "if you don't accept other peoples lifestyles you're a monster" theme going on pretty strong.

Happy Feet. That movie will mess your head up. It covers over fishing, Catholic church, being gay, being different, littering in our oceans, animals in captivity, and a few other things. Watch it again with this in mind.

What's kind of ironic about The Body Snatchers - the original novel was criticized by some for being too anti-communist, too supportive of McCarthyism -- and by others for being negative toward conformity in capitalist society.

Aliens was about the Vietnam War, Captain America winter soldier was anti Jingoism, and the Matrix was against censering the internet.

There are actually 2 red scares. the 1st 1 lasted 2 years (1919-1920) and the 2nd 1 lasted a decade (1947-1957).

A few years ago the producer of Dawn of the Dead filed a lawsuit against Capcom for ripping of his film to make Dead Rising. The judge sided w/ Capcom b/c it was devoid of any profound themes that the cult classic conveyed. In other words the video game got off the hook b/c it was a stupid zombie game. Capcom was like "we'll take it!"

One of my favorite political movies is the 1975 movie "Moonrunners", a prequel to "Dukes of Hazard". This movie is a microcosm of power and corruption mixed Southern honor. My favorite quote was when Uncle Jessie said his family's moonshine business has toiled versus "The British, The Yankees, The Confederates, and now the Federal Government".
