This was a great list! Very well rounded. But I have to ask, why leave out Dead Cells? I know it had some issues on the Switch version but I know they've been working hard to fix them and get it up to the same level of quality as the other versions

The Messenger is an incredible and underrated game that just came out a few months back. Everyone needs to try it. Story is good, unique gameplay and cool world design and mechanics.

Axiom Verge, Yokus Island, Dead Cells, Alwas Awakening, Cave Story, Forma 8, Ghost 1.0, Owlboy, Steamworld Dig 1&2, The Adventures of Elena Temple, The Messenger, Toki Tori, Unepic, Xeodrifter and just recently Guacamelee are all great games in this genre that I own on my Switch library. Hollow Knight is still the best of the best but a few stand out as being close contenders. Primarily Axiom Verge, Dead Cells and The Messenger.

Great job on this list. I used to only pay AAA games and thought indie games were cheap. Then, I tried out the demo of Trine 2 on my Wii U and it forever changed me. I have most of the Metroidvania games on this list and love them. I'm currently working on Dead Cells and Hollow Knight. I have to go back to Axiom Verge on my Wii U. I'm sure I'll be lost since it's been a while since I left off.

@@SwitchUpYt Haha I was one of the few people that predownloaded Dandara so I could play it as soon as I could. I was in love from the first trailer and it didn't let me down. As far as other games in this list go, Yoku is a great choice just based on its blending of genres alone, but Mummy Demastered is what grabs me. I have both Axiom Verge and Shantae and the Pirates Curse on other platforms though. Great list!

Absolutley great list. axiom verge music is just incredible. dead cells, awesome. blaster master fantastic, especially as you can play as shovel knight. my absolute fave metroidvania is both the shantai's. its the complete package of graphics, music and mechanics for me. and rive.. fair one , i hadnt seen it as a metroidvania, for me its full on bullet hell , i got tgat on ps4 and switch..cant live without rive , perfect handheld game. i have a simple rule to find my favourites.. if i have bought them on pc , ps4 and switch...its a pretty amazing game i cant live without. and a robot named fight ? off to check it out..looks amazing..i missed this one. great video.

A Robot Named Fight. Rive is a close second. But I agree Hollow Knight is the cream of the crop. from the beautiful and haunting soundscapes to the tight controls and level design. Question... Would you consider Dust: An Elysian Tale a Metroidvania? I think it could be considered one and is also fantastic. I have not picked it up on Switch but loved it on XB360.

It can feel a bit stiff early on but feels much better once you start getting power ups like double jump, dash, etc. Maybe you'd like a more traditional Metroidvania like Axiom Verge instead?

My 2 cents. RIVE is perfect. Just get it. Mummy de mastered is a good but short Metroid Vania. It has exploration, unlockable abilities, backtrack and a kick-ass soundtrack. Toki Tori first was ok. The second is easily ten times better. Puzzlevania maybe??

SwitchUp Oh it’s an absolute masterpiece man. Fantastic visuals, great writing, full voice acting, fun gameplay, a beautiful soundtrack, and a perfect game length. It’s got an insane amount of passion and love put into it and I would absolutely recommend you play it or maybe give it a mention on your channel if you want (though that may be a bit bold of me to say). The game does so many things right and it’s only $15 so I’d definitely recommend you check it out. Sorry if I went on a little too long and thank you for replying.

Actually I'm pretty sure Sony fronted most of the money for it to get made, which is why it's PS4 exclusive for now. Hopefully it doesn't stay that way but right now it's looking more like a Bayonetta 2 situation in that the game would not of happened if Sony hadn't stepped in and paid for it

I think you're doing the right thing by waiting. It's a fantastic game that will look great on a shelf. Not only that but there's quite a bit of additional content that you will have access to all in one go so it'll feel more natural to you than to those that got it earlier

Hi, that is the first time I coment on youtube and I do it in your channel. I came to recomend to every one Ghost 1.0. It´s a pure metroidvania, Nice graphics in a 90s anime style (not pixel art) including some videos. During the videos and during the game you listen to some funny dialogs and at least the spanish voice acting are very good. The controls are very good and you got lots of weapons and other stuff you can collect and improve in a rpg style habilities tree. The game is hard but not impossible. I paid 5 euro for it and for sure I will buy Unepic form the same developer. For me Ghost 1.0 is a must have if you like metroidvania games

I was gonna say "where is Ori?" but I think this video came out before Ori came on the switch. Personally Ori and Axiom Verge top the list of Metroidvania on the Switch. I have started Hollow Knight recently and I could see myself getting tired of it (possibly before finishing it), while I finished Ori 3 times so far.

Yoku & Rive are prob my favs on your list. Robot Named Fight is pretty good too. I don't like any of the Shantaes and Aliens: Infestation on DS was better than The Mummy. Dandara is alright too, though it gets unfairly difficult IMO.

- Axiom Verge: Too many useless power ups ruin a bit the fun of exploration and the story feels a bit pretentious at times, I enjoyed playing it but I won't come back to it. - Shantae and the Pirate's Curse: Great game, I had tons of fun with it on the 3DS, it is better than its nonetheless very good successor. - The Mummy: Great Castevania feeling but stupidly hard at times, getting your stuff back before a boss fight becomes a chore which ends up ruining the fun, I didn't bother finishing it. - Toki Tori 2+: I played it on Steam and I got bored very quickly. I didn't play the others. :/ Action adventure games worth checking out if you like mrtroidvanias: - Iconoclasts - Shantae Half-Genie Hero - Owlboy
