Michael Gerard Tyson (born June 30, 1966) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1985 to 2005. Nicknamed "Iron Mike"[4] and "Kid Dynamite" in his early career, and later known as "The Baddest Man on the Planet",[5] Tyson is considered to be one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time.[6] He reigned as the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990. Tyson won his first 19 professional fights by knockout, 12 of them in the first round. Claiming his first belt at 20 years, four months, and 22 days old, Tyson holds the record as the youngest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title.[7] He was the first heavyweight boxer to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles, as well as the only heavyweight to unify them in succession. The following year, Tyson became the lineal champion when he knocked out Michael Spinks in 91 seconds of the first round.[8] In 1990, Tyson was knocked out by underdog Buster Douglas[9] in one of the biggest upsets in history.
In 1992, Tyson was convicted of rape and sentenced to six years in prison, although he was released on parole after three years.[10][11][12] After his release in 1995, he engaged in a series of comeback fights, regaining the WBA and WBC titles in 1996 to join Floyd Patterson, Muhammad Ali, Tim Witherspoon, Evander Holyfield and George Foreman as the only men in boxing history to have regained a heavyweight championship after losing it. After being stripped of the WBC title in the same year, Tyson lost the WBA title to Evander Holyfield by an eleventh round stoppage. Their 1997 rematch ended when Tyson was disqualified for biting Holyfield's ears, one bite notoriously being strong enough to remove a portion of his right ear. In 2002, Tyson fought for the world heavyweight title, losing by knockout to Lennox Lewis.
Tyson was known for his ferocious and intimidating boxing style as well as his controversial behavior inside and outside the ring. With a knockout-to-win percentage of 88%,[13] he was ranked 16th on The Ring magazine's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time,[14] and first on ESPN's list of "The Hardest Hitters in Heavyweight History".[15] Sky Sports described him as "perhaps the most ferocious fighter to step into a professional ring".[16] He has been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.

One of the reasons Tyson will always be my favorite boxer is because he always seemed to feel extremely bad after he put someone down, he understood that his punches in his prime were like gunshots and he understood that his power had the ability to kill someone or cause lifelong damage and he always wanted to see if the guy was OK and was able to get up afterwards.

If he really cared that much about his opponent's wellbeing, he wouldn't have become a fighter in the first place. You can't break someone's jaw with an intentional uppercut then say "Oh sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you. Are you okay?" Anyone who decides to become a professional boxer/fighter needs to accept that deep down, your motivations are money, fame, glory - whatever. Definitely not the wellbeing of your opponent. There's no honour in needless violence.

@@BiggyJimboNo, nobody will make it to this Level without loving the sport itself just to gain money and fame! Sure it's brutal and violent but it has rules and it is still a sport. They all want to win, but not end the opponents career or even kill them. Hence Tyson bit ears, punched after the referee stepped in... He's definetely not the best example of carrying for the other!

Even after being knocked out he is showing respect towards the opponent... What a sportsman spirit!🙏 1-1 fight in the ring is a totally different scenario. Your adrenaline is high and you're in a mental zone where anger, pain, stamina and most of all winning is constantly hovering in mind, but to be focused and still care for your opponent after they are knocked out shows the humane side of your personality and your conscience! My respect towards this Man has increased tenfolds 🙏 Everytime I look at his videos, It seems that he was very viciously portrayed by the media as if they were taking some revenge! They were 100% 'Opinionated' and 'Judgemental'.

+toojohnny - FINALLY ... someone in the comment section of this video who actually knows what they're talking about. I'm amazed Tyson can walk with so many people's heads stuck so firmly up his ass! :-P Anyway ... you're absolutely right! He wasn't in the Top 5 when it comes to power, though unlike you I _would_ put him in the Top 10. As for his rank amongst the all time great Heavyweights, I agree that he's in the Top 10, and I'd probably put him in at 8 or 9. The problem is that we never really got to see him fight a great Heavyweight while they were both in their prime. That being the case, he might actually fall out of the Top 10 if we'd seen such a fight and he'd lost. Don't you think? People here don't seem to understand that knocking out tomatoes in the first round - on his way up - doesn't mean as much as they think it does. He had limited reach but was able to get inside because of his speed. However ... imagine him fighting Ali in his prime; Tyson wouldn't have been able to get inside Ali and that would have shut him down completely. I don't think he would have been fast enough to avoid Ali's punches either - especially his jabs - and that would have caused him a lot of trouble. If he fought someone like Foreman in his prime, he would have been in a lot of trouble there too, because he would have had a lot of difficulty getting inside there as well, plus we saw how badly things went whenever he fought against someone who had some power. He got so used to knocking out tomatoes that he got very frustrated and went off his game whenever he met someone who stuck it out for a few rounds and gave him back some damage. It's a shame that we never really saw him pushed by a great fighter while he was in his prime. If we'd seen that then I think we'd have a better idea where he should be; in the Top 10 or not - depending on how he went - and if he was in the Top 10, then we'd have a better idea about where he should be on the list. Thoughts?
