Honorable mention: Singapore 2012, where he had the guts to ask Hamilton (who was on pole that race) to jump ship from title-contending McLaren to the midfield Mercedes team. Before the race, Hamilton essentially told Niki he was out of his mind, since Lewis was fresh off of wins in Hungary and Italy, and good chances at victory in Singapore. But following the DNF Niki was praying for, Hamilton was persuaded to join Mercedes the following season. 63 wins and 5 world titles later, none of Hamilton’s success since 2014 would have been possible without Niki.

@@noahabell4087 Can agree with that statement. None of the rivals that are present today on the grid show the love and incouragement that was present back 20 years ago or even 15. Today they seem like complete strangers to one each other, except for team members, it's sad tbh. Just look the way Niki was close to Prost even tho he won for half a point. I don't recall such a thing when Hamilton "stole" the championship to Massa in 2008, he just walk back to the pits with a smile on his face and acted like nothing happened. - I remember in 2012 I was at my home in Monaco when Niki called me. Before, we didn't really have contact with each other. He told me I should join Mercedes, that this is where I belong. It was the first time we started talking about it, ”admitted Hamilton. - I have always said that Ross [Brawn] had a decisive influence on my joining Mercedes. He explained the team's work to me and outlined a plan for Silver Arrows. I believed in this vision. Niki, however, was the person who presented me with this opportunity. He was my supporter for all the years. In all negotiations, in pressure to develop the car. He was a flesh and blood racing driver, ”added Hamilton
