Honorable mention: Singapore 2012, where he had the guts to ask Hamilton (who was on pole that race) to jump ship from title-contending McLaren to the midfield Mercedes team. Before the race, Hamilton essentially told Niki he was out of his mind, since Lewis was fresh off of wins in Hungary and Italy, and good chances at victory in Singapore. But following the DNF Niki was praying for, Hamilton was persuaded to join Mercedes the following season. 63 wins and 5 world titles later, none of Hamilton’s success since 2014 would have been possible without Niki.
