I think BWF must make new rules. Let there be challenge whenever the player and judge don't agree each other. Like the last one, it's will be too painful for Ginting. Clearly he didn't foul. And also these umpires need to be penalised for their bad judgement, even players got penalised due to misbehaviour.

Replays are only for challanges and they can only did it twice (if you got one wrong there will be no challenge remaining but if you got it right it won't). Umpire is an umpire but they're also a human like us, but they should get a punishment for their mistakes smh🤷‍♂️

The worst one I've seen is Lee Wan Wah and Choong Tan Fook Vs Martin Lungaard Hansen and Jens Eriksen 2004 All England back then no challenges and you couldn't overrule the line call. It affected the outcome/ result of the match in favour of the Danish combination.

How to solve that controversy? Just let officials supervisor check it, any cheating attempt will be stopped right away. And also, extra 1 screen for video replay, just same like VAR (Video Assist Referee)

line judges and referees don't make money. They are rich old people who has lots of time on their time to do stuffs like this (oh and with pretty large ego to go with them). Can't complain when they need side money for a nice meal or gas money.

Umpires are volunteers, but their flights, hotels, and meals are paid by the tournament. Line judges are local people, so only meals.

I wonder what would happen with the umpire after the controversial calls? Any sanctions from BWF? Anyone knows? The umpire of the game between Lin Dan VS Jorgensen made lots of mistakes in one game. BWF should take his license as an umpire.

I don't know of any sanctions. What I do know is that an umpire gets a lot of evaluations. But in my opinion the assessors prefer often a good presentation above making good decisions. You can see that happen in this video. I know this because I have been umpire for a while, on a lower level than this.

With the advance technology and umpire seems to make genuine mistake, it's about time that the challenge should not be restricted to only a few. Let's every dispute be challenged if they are confident of it. Penalise them if the player got it wrong eg. two point awarded to the opponent.

So painful to watch. Sometimes I wonder if these umpires or line or service judges even play badminton. Badminton rules are archaic and needs to be changed. Umpire calls cannot be over ruled even if video playback shows an obvious error. Like challenges, video playback should be allowed like 2 a game.

Most umpires I knew were playing badminton on a really low level or were not playing at all. That can indeed be a problem, not always. In my childhood I often had an umpire at matches and he said the following to me:"I can't play badminton, I am really bad in that, but I like to umpire." And he has made mistakes in my matches, but most of the times he was not prejudiced to any player. He made faults on both sides. And if he had made a fault he admitted it after the game. Therefore the players respected him, I never heard players complaining about him. This umpire has led one England Open Men's Singles final years ago and stopped about 10 years ago. Unfortunately, not every umpire is like this. So I agree with you.

Why is the umpire’s decision absolute? Is it not allowed to review the footage before making the final decision whenever a player challenge? The umpires are also human they can make mistakes they cannot see everything from every angle that is why there are cameras everywhere. @@badmintonrally9983 That pair also got hit by the shuttle in the skirt in YAE 2018 final, 1st game, deciding point. The shuttle hit Zhangnan forehead in a match vs Kamura/Sonoda also (2018 or 2019 I think)

A good example of people being paid to do the job but having their eyes and minds away from the game, didn't see when they are suppose to see but stick to their 'assumed' decision, knowing that the umpire and line judges are final. The faces of these careless officials should be immediately viralled on the social medias and their licences should be suspended immediately. The ones in the Indian Open (Indian umpire and line judges) is the most obvious. Opponent players who knew that their shots are wide but called in by the line judge or the umpire should allow the point to their opponents as an act of fair play. Those who don't should be ashamed of themselves. If having a bad umpire and line judges calls is not bad enough it is made more shameful when the opponents takes the unworthy credit. Personally, I'm of the opinion that all umpires and line judges in this short videos deserve to be shamed in front of the world. They've been heartless and cold to justice. Had this not been a sport, they really deserved a shot in the heads.
