I agree and thanks to it having sold so badly I have to fork out 200-250 bucks to get one. I used to have one but was forced to part with it but trying to find one here in Sweden well hell finding a new PS4 was dirt cheap compared to the vita. and well the ps vita has sold around 14-16mill units compared to ps4 114 million units so no wonder the vita cost 100-150 more than a ps4. But man PS vita has so many great games I honestly want a PS vita 2.

I'm a fan and subscriber but you need to look at it realistically. JRPG is a niche genre and there are only so many worthwhile games per system. Over the years, his content is mostly rehashed over and over again. We definitely need him to make this content, though, because nobody else is as focused or knowledgeable about such a wide variety of JRPGs.

I think Erik doesn't go for dungeon crawlers as much as he does story driven JRPGs. Considering his love of Valkyrie Profile I'm surprised Exist Archive didn't make the list. I think if he'd gone out to fifteen Akiba's Beat and Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters could go on the list as well.

I knew of the existence of Tokyo Xanadu, but I hadn't seen gameplay. Now you've convinced me to play it. In fact, tales of hearts is a remake of a game that came out for Nintendo DS only in Japan. (which curiously came out in 2 versions, one with anime cinemas and one with CGI cinemas, and you will guess that the latter was not to the taste of most) I've always seen lost dimension and he's never managed to convince me. More games that should have been on this list Toukiden series: they are basically monster hunter /God eater, but inspired by Japanese folklore. Oreshinka: the last game Sony IE Japan Studio released for psvita. Penny punching princess: An action rpg with interesting mechanics. Trillion, God of destruction: I don't know whether to consider it a fusion between a novel visual or an rpg. The princess guide: Although its version for vita only came out in Japan, but its version for PS4 and switch if they were located for the West (but can be played with an English patch, but only on modified consoles) From the same creators of penny punching princess

The Vita is honestly one of the best systems when it comes to JRPGs. It has so many amazing games, it was just a shame that Sony gave it no support. I really enjoyed Freedom Wars, but Muramasa Rebirth is one of my favourite titles on the Vita. I loved that game and enjoyed it so much. I didn't even know that Ys Origin got a vita port. I knew it was on PSP, which was playable on Vita, but honestly had no idea it got released on the Vita itself. I've never even heard of Lost Dimension, so that's one for me to look into. Looking on the PS store I don't even see it available to purchase, so it looks like the only option would be the steam version for me. I could buy a physical copy off of somewhere like ebay, but all the copies I can find would be more expensive, plus I tend to play games on PC more often so having it on steam would likely be more convenient. It definitely looks like it'd appeal to me, so I've added it to my wishlist for now and may pick it up later this year :)

The Project Diva game series is great for anyone into rhythm games. Project Diva F and F2nd are on PS3 and Project Diva X is on PS4 but I think they really shine on the ps vita. :3 Even though I have them on ps3/ps4 I go back to the games on ps vita more.

Tales of Hearts R is the only physical game I own for the Vita 😂 I actually bought the Vita just so I could play it ^^; other than that the only games we have on there are Gravity Rush, Katamari, Wipeout, and Persona 4 Golden (which is the only other game I've played at length on there) its such a shame, because its genuinely a great console, and one of the few handhelds I can use without getting a migraine, but we just didn't see as many exclusive games released for it here as in Japan.

Adventures of Mana on the Vita did not get the attention it deserved. I still have my gameboy version of Final Fantasy Adventure, and the Vita remake is awesome, even letting you switch to the original soundtrack.

The vita didn't really have any exclusives. Almost all of the games on vita are on pc natively and almost all of the ones that aren't can be played via other working emulators(like rpcs3). Only a couple like freedom wars and hearts r can't be played except for vita (though the original hearts can be played via emulator)

@@ericp631 I was mostly concerned with Tales of Hearts R, Muramasa Rebirth, and Freedom Wars. I am a big fan of the Tales games and had the impression that the only way to play it in English was on the Vita. I know the vanilla (get it) version of Muramasa is available on the Wii, and as far as I am aware Freedom Wars is exclusive to the Vita. I don't care too much for Atelier games, and I've already played the heck out of both Ys: Origin and Memories of Celceta on Steam.I will check out the RPCS3 you mentioned since I would like to emulate some PS3 games like Nier, Eternal Sonata, and Tales of Graces F, Xillia 1, and 2 also. Thanks for your help.

Vita is worth getting games for before they become too hard and too expensive to find. Certainly worth getting the 3 Vanillaware games and other 2D JRPGs. Also worth getting the Ys games like Origin and Ys 8 despite the later games got screwed in their English Dub. XSeed should never have given the series to NISA. Also the Neptunia games are worth getting on the Vita as they are better versions and more refined than the original PS3 games. (Plus the Neptunia spinoffs are a great alternative as they are not like the JRPGs) I also focused on Japanese Imports that never saw release in the west, as well as some games like Blue Reflection that was released in the West but only on the PS4, so I had to import Blue Reflection from Japan. Already got Lost Dimension on the PS3 and it was a fine game, most certainly under rated because I was sure not many have even played it either on the PS3 or PS Vita.

The only one I would class as a "true" RPG is Tales of Hearts R. World map, NPCs, towns and turn-based combat. Modern RPGs have gone down a path I don't like.

I despise Tales of Hearts for one simple reason: The voice acting. The rest of the series has this phenomenal voice acting but Hearts? All it got was a text translation which means especially if you understand Japanese the dialog and the text don't match up at all. Japanese voice acting is awful in anything anyway but knowing what we missed out on... honestly they could've picked some random people off the street that spoke english and it would've been way better than what we actually got. Well, that and putting it on the Vita instead of the PS3 like they actually wanted the game to fail. They chose the absolute worst system they could've put it on and then half assed the translation. If I wanted that I could've imported the game and got some fan translation.
