I think this video proves that producers from these shows intentionally recruit the singers that did not pass the initial screening, but promised them to be on TV if they could sing significantly worse. Have them sign NDA's before even the first screen occurs and you've got them. That's basically reality TV.

Thing is....when you are told you can sing by the well meaning you believe you can. Had a friend who thought she was a star but couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. But every gathering at some point she would want to sing and not wanting to hurt her feelings everyone would let her. Any time it was suggested she couldn't sing to be kind her friends would defend her. Which only strengthened her belief she could. It truly sounded like coyotes in heat. PS. Ever since watching Zoe Alexander’s truth about the X Factor video, I feel for these contestants more than I cringe at them. Keith, for example, just seems like a sweet person who was misled. A lot of these people probably heard it from the producers that they were great singers before going into the room. It’s really shitty what they do on these shows, and it’s important to keep in mind that they can make anything look like whatever they want through editing.
