@@thorsal6208 Yeah but the overall Cornwall situation wasn't really Dutch's fault. Sure he robbed his train but later on Arthur (or John) steal one of his oil wagons to rob another train. That's how the Pinkertons found the gang in the Heartlands. Him killing Cornwall wouldn't have been a necesserily bad idea since that would stop the main cash income for the Pinkertons, but he shouldn't have caused such a commotion around it.

It's a reference, actually, to one of the most popular random encounters in the first RDR. Sometimes you could encounter two men unloading crates of dynamite from a wagon and if you stick around and watch, they'll take a break, light up a pair of cigs and then blow up. so when I saw this scene you're referring to, oh my god, I could not stop laughing.

roland ngom No he really is one of the best. The “best character” title is a really subjective thing to say, there’s no objective standards to take into account. But the fact that thousands say that this character made them depressed, sad, happy or whatever really says something about the writing of this character and the game, after all, art is art when it makes you feel something. Not every game makes you feel like your character is or was a real person; this one does...

@@zachcolgan2064 Losing Hosea was the big blow for Dutch. He started going truly mad from that moment because he didn’t really want to escape, he wanted vengeance. On the Pinkertons, on the police, on the US government. To paraphrase another great game; he hoped that hatred would someday replace the pain, but it never goes away. It makes a man hideous, inside and out. At the end, I think he himself realised that.

I think it shows that the most true to cannon path arthur can follow is a low-honour run up into his faith in dutch begins to waver in chapters 4-5 and essentially a selflessness in chapter 6. It just doesnt feel right that the guy who helped micah massacre strawberry and beat a tuberculosis patient to death while still collecting from his family would be a honourful gentleman outside of it before his change of heart.

Honorable mention to John's conversation with Rains Fall at the Annesburg train station in the Epilogue. One of my personal favorites actually. @@lelandmann5681 Are you sure you know what redemption actually means? Based on your comment I think you've confused 'avenge' with redemption. Revenge and redemption are two completely different things, and are not even remotely similar. But the redemption in Arthurs story is him saving John, Jack and Abigail, and giving them a chance at life.

That moment when Dutch repeats '' John'' and' '' insist '' only for Arthur to stand his ground, made him realize that he is not going to be able to manipulate him anymore. He's free to make his own mind and I think at that point Dutch knew he lost control of the gang

@@ohnoimatrap856 I agree, if you really pay attention to the character you can see he was always subtly manipulating these people. It's just that early on he had a good mind for hiding it, but be also had this air of almost "robin hood" about him. Y'know that of the people for the people. @@henryofskalitz4879 to be fair that’s technically what every leader does. That manipulate you in some form or fashion, especially in a situation like a gang like this. And as you said, early on I believe Dutch at least believed he was doing everything for the greater good.

@@zalandkhan4043 I actually remember a quick dialogue in chapter one when, you’re in the mountains, and dutch says something along the lines of “good. I… We need you strong.” Which basically showed that he WAS manipulating from the beginning just wayy better at hiding it. I think the incident you referred to, where he hit his head, most likely made him more irrational and obvious.

Moments like that also really helped establish the strong relationship between the three men, and explains why Hosea and Arthur stay loyal for so long even when Dutch starts going crazy. Explains why they tried to justify it for so long, and refused to see it for what it was. Most games would cut that sort of scene out, and it's absence would make me not believe the relationship betwern the three being strong enough to withstand Dutch's failing mental health for so long.

Everyone is. Because secretly we all either know this is the only form of consciousness we get or they're afraid they're going to burn in a mythical place like hell. Life is beautiful, despite of and because of its flaws, heartache, and misery. If it werent for the flaws, heartache, and misery, happiness, love, and the Joys of being a human free on this earth wouldnt really matter as much, would it? Wed have nothing to look forward to accept for dying. I think rockstar did a fine job of capturing that truth. We all go face to face with our own mortality at some point.. some sooner than others.

Arthur saying that he's afraid gets me every time. In 2020 I suffered two strokes and had an aneurism. The night before the brain surgery to remove it was absolutely harrowing and terrifying. Facing death like that does change you and the way you see things. In a heartbeat it turns everything upside down and makes you question every decision you ever made, it brings priorities and values into question to say the least.
