Top 10 Most OVERRATED Coasters I’ve Ridden

I thought Voyage was overrated at first but then I rode it at night, and that changed everything. While I don't think the airtime moments are nearly as strong as some people say they are, I loved this ride more for the out of control feeling, the length (I feel like the ride never ends), and basically seeing nothing the entire layout. I respect your opinion that you think Voyage is overrated, but I think that comes from what we prefer in rides, as I think you look more for the most insane ejector airtime, while I look more for out of control, fast paced, and surprising rides, which I have rides like Voyage, Mystic Timbers, and Storm Chaser very high

Much the same way I felt about Fury. I still think it is overrated as I see many put it in their top 5, but if you are lucky enough to get a front row night ride on it then take that chance because Fury is by far best at night IMO. Those two rides I got on it are the only reason I have it at #8/90 (otherwise it would probably barely crack my top 15). I'd be curious to see how I feel about the Voyage

Personally I feel like great bear is underrated. I always had a fun and unique right on it. Also I feel like lightning racer is great as just a family fun racing style and doesn’t need all the ejector, positives, or floater. Jmo

I agree with you on Kumba for the most part. I’ve ridden the coaster many times as it’s at my home park, and it’s sometimes pretty rough. However, I wind the ride to be very forceful.

Yeah Kumba has a bad rattle especially the cobra roll and the hell roll is completely overhyped. I prefer Zero g rolls ngl.

While I respect people's opinions, I definitely don't agree with several rides on this list. Kumba and Montu are very similar in intensity. This is coming from someone that visits BGT often. And when you said Carolina Cyclone was smoother than TT, I started questioning your opinions😂.

Tip to some people who have never ridden a GCI: (click “show more”) NEVER. And I mean NEVER have high expectations for a GCI. I loved Texas Stingray and Kentucky Rumbler because I didn’t have high expectations for both of those rides.

Voyage takes some time to warm up. The difference between riding it when the park opened and riding it in the afternoon and evening was huge for me.

5:58 The lift chain noise alone should be in the top three. It's a historically famous record breaking ride that's also provides a bit of nostalgia when riding, as well as airtime. 🎢

I agree about Mystic Timbers. It's probably my favorite GCI I've ridden and it is great but I never understood how people have it over Orion and Diamondback. It's #5 in the park for me behind The Beast, Banshee, Diamondback, and Orion.

Voyages air time was significantly stronger when the ride first opened. I wrote it and its debut year and remember my legs hurting against the lap bar on the return trip. I think the trim brake was not as strong back then.

As Magnum is the only ride I've ridden on your list I have to agree, I found the airtime hills at the end too painful to be considered enjoyable.

Whoever told you Voyage had ejector was a HUGE liar, and that’s coming from a big fan of the ride. People who like Voyage, Mystic Timbers, and other similar rides tend to vastly overstate the airtime strength to validate how much they like it, which is unnecessary. Both of those rides are amazing without having the strongest airtime.

The double down and the speed hill have ejector airtime. At Holiwood Nights 2021 most of the second half is ejector.

I really want to like Mystic Timbers, but I just can't. It's way too fast and aggressive, and with that it's quite forgettable. I don't feel great airtime at all. I would much rather go next door and ride Diamondback, which has MUCH better airtime.

I did get to ride Afterburn from the front, back, and middle, and I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed by it. It just didn't feel forceful or whippy. Maybe there was some on the corkscrew out of nowhere, but it just doesn't work when you aren't getting those crazy moments throughout the rest of the ride like something like Batman or Montu. The flow of elements also felt off with that little hill over the lift. Tennessee Tornado is fine I guess. I'm not sure I hear it hyped up all that much. Maybe I find it slightly overrated since I prefer Loch Ness Monster and found Carolina Cyclone to be close, but I don't think it's that badly overrated. I305 is good. I probably like it slightly less than some others because I blacked out so badly I missed half the ride, but it's fun and has 3 moments of airtime (although the first one I was only able to perceive once out of the 4 rides I had on it). But it's top 3 for me of the limited set of coasters I've been on, only behind Fury and Twisted Timbers.

Totally agree with Tennessee Tornado. Overall I didn't think it was too rough, but that final hill into the break run... my shoulders were sore after that. You can see exactly what I'm talking about in the pov at 6:55. It even looks painful in the video lol

I pretty much disagree with everything you said about Kumba. When I went to this BGT Montu was crawling and Kumba was hauling. Second time I went Montu was closed and Kumba was running a little slower.

Carolina Cyclone smoother than Tennessee Tornado???? I definitely disagree. Carolina Cyclone is dead last on my list of 82 credits. It is so rough and painful, which made me scared to ride other arrow loopers, but TT was actually incredibly smooth in my opinion. It is currently the only Arrow looper I will re-ride at any park because I get off of the ride without a headache.

I'm totally with you on Magnum XL, I honestly thought it was one of the worst rides in the park. I mostly agree that TT is overrated too. I can't disagree more about Mystic Timbers and Kumba, to me they are the best coasters in their park. At least until 3 weeks from now when I get to ride Iron Gwazi for the first time.

BGT used to be my home park and Kumba has a bad rattle. I ranked it 4th in the park after Montu Shiekra and Cheetah Hunt. Kumba also isn’t that intense imo. I’m sad I moved before iron Gwazi opened. Hope I can ride it this summer tho

I-305 does seem to be running better than ever, judging by when I rode it (July of this year) and other POV's shot around the same time period. The airtime was good flojector, even on the trimmed hill, similar to Fury's airtime. Although I consistently came very close, I didn't black out on this ride, so if you go in expecting that, you'll be disappointed. I feel like that is why I have it as my #1 steel, and #2 overall.

Tennessee tornado’s drop is I think the second best in the park, and the inversions were smoother than I was expecting, but it was no b&m. I still thought thunderhead was a better overall ride.

Agree with Magnum and Kumba. Magnum is just too old and rough for me to enjoy. Kumba is a fun coaster. But Montu is far better.

Tennessee Tornado is rougher than Carolina Cyclone? Never heard that before... I've ridden Tennessee Tornado several times and it wasn't the smoothest coaster but definitely the smoothest Arrow I've ridden. Can't say the same for Carolina Cyclone... ouch. Sorry you had a bad ride on Tennessee Tornado. In my experience, B&M inverts are more intense in the front, and whippier in the back. Yeah, I'm weird lol, but ride in the front of Afterburn sometime, it's great! I've heard people's overrated claims about Kumba, and I've yet to experience Kumba at its prime, as the only ride I got was very rough; it gave me a headache that lasted days, and this is coming from someone who's ridden Cheetah, Mine Blower, Carolina Cyclone, Vortex, 2 Boomerangs and an SLC without feeling lasting effects afterward. I know there's good rows on Kumba so I'm looking forward to seeing how good it really is. One ride I think is overrated is Mine Blower. The only thing that keeps me from liking this more is that it's so rough! I do still like it, and its intensity and airtime are good, but I have White Lightning way above this one. But that's just my experience, I can see how others would like this one better. I don't really have any others, most rides either lived up to the hype, lived past it, or lived just under it but not nearly enough to consider them overrated.

@@willlima1297 Yeah and the corkscrews were the worst part. Everything else was okay, but still shaky. TT is definitely a superior ride in every way. It's kinda sad as I like Arrow coasters and hope they stay around as long as possible, but some of them being so rough makes it hard to justify keeping them when their service life ends.

Kumba is the best ride in the park. BG Tampa is my home park since I was born…Cheetah Hunt Sucks, Shikra is short, Montu is pretty good….But Kumba is the best.

bruhhhh, i was really hoping you wouldn't say i-305😭. it is my all time favorite coaster, and i prefer airtime to positive g's any day. I just don't find I-305 as intense as people say (and this is coming from the guy who passed out on Hulk). I was actually super nervous to ride it at first because I heard how intense it is, but I honestly don't understand how so many people regard this coaster as "the most intense." I loved it for it's speed, whipiness, drop, and S-bends. But I only ever black out a little on that first turn. The intensity on this coaster does not feel nearly as intense as b&m inverts, stand-ups, or sit-downs.

My first trip to BGT, I got two rides on Kumba across two days. The first day, it was solid but pretty tame. The second day, the ride tried to fucking kill me. I get more of the latter than the former but apparently it’s a temperamental ride, just need to catch it on the right day I guess. Trust me, when it’s going, it’s world-class. Though I’d still give the edge to Montu since its pacing is stronger.

Cheetah Hunt is easily the most overrated ride at BGT. Uncomfortable restraints, and doesn’t do very much. A few good airtime moments but that is about it. Tigris is better.

Carolina Cyclone was HORRIBLE. It hurt my back. It was a one and done. Never riding that hunk of junk again. Also i put Magnum at 2. And Thigcrush at 1. I hate Magnum and i hate ThighCrush as well.

You are entitled to your opinions. I know that if I were ever to make a top 10 - 20 - 100 coaster list that I would disagree with most of the coaster enthusiasts I see on KZbin. It's fun for me to see what other people love about coasters. The only coasters that I found way overrated were Maverick and Millennium Force at Cedar Point. Maybe it's because I rode them in the morning, but they were both very ho-hum to me. I found Raptor, Valravn, and yes, Magnum much more fun and interesting. I thought Maverick was about the same thrill level as Hagrid's, which is a great ride, but not one of the most thrilling coasters I've ridden. I think that sometimes the hype works against a coaster. Had I gone into riding Maverick thinking, "this will be fun," and not, "this will be one of the best here," I think I would have liked it enough. Instead I stepped off thinking, "why is this so popular?!"

The most overrated ride I’ve been on is ninja at SFMM. It was a good ride, but it did not feel like a 55mph ride. I felt barely any g forces but that might be because I sat towards the front.

My most overrated ride I've got on so far has to be Magnum XL-200. Many people love it, but for me it was easily one of the worst at Cedar Point (which could still be considered the best at a lesser park). To each his own though

Y'all are soft for complaining about the sharp ejector on this coaster. Sure it's old and not exactly smooth what you're all spoiled to have, but this ride, especially with trims off, make me just want to see how loose I can set my lap bar 😈. I'm a bit of a rough and tumble guy due to the sports I do, and this ride is my #2 at cedar point, and I prefer this ride over diamondback based on the character and strong negative G's. This coaster wasn't made out with computers, hand designed and welded.

This is coming from someone who loves the back row of The Beast, a spot most would consider way too rough to enjoy. I understand you're "rough and tumble" and love getting beat up by rollercoasters, personally I like to enjoy a ride instead of get beat up by it, and quite frankly there is nothing overly great about Magnums layout except the bunny hills and unfortunately those are the roughest part. This is my opinion, you're entitled to yours as well- just don't shit on someone for having a contrasting view next time.

For #1, Voyage really has the biggest focus on quantity, and I really don't know who thought that this was all for ejector hahaha, people I've heard from say it was floater and flojector at best. But like the rest, night rides seem to be the best time for Voyage.

I was surprised that Voyage was #1. I agree that Magnum was on the list. It was epic for its time in the late 80's and the view of Lake Erie is spectacular. But that ride has not aged well at all.

I totally agree with Tennessee Tornado being overrated. An Arrow coater built in 1991 (Anaconda) has a deeper first drop, one more inversion, and a longer track length (I'm not saying that Anaconda is better, but you can't deny those stats). Carolina Cyclone (1980) has more inversions. That short length and unimpressive number of inversions (built in 1999) are borderline unacceptable IMO.

I thought Anaconda and Carolina Cyclone were pretty bland, but I had a memorable ride on Tennessee Tornado. The design feels much more intense and the setting is superb. I agree it's short, but I also don't hear anyone raving about it. I guess I just didn't expect it on this list.

Great list all these coasters look to be great except for lightning racer. If I'd have to choose overrated rollercoasters I'd probably say Flucht von Novgorod, Kondaa, Expedition Geforce and Troy. Flucht von Novgorod is kinda short and underwhelming, it's basically the launch only and the rest is filler. Kondaa is an amazing ride yet it wasn't the n1 coaster in the world that people were making it out to be and same thing with Expedition Geforce. I have a love-hate relationship with Troy at Toverland. If it's running well it's a solid n7 in my top 10 but I also had bad rides which would probably put it at n10.

I thought El Toro was overrated because everyone was like oh it's the best woodie in the world. And then I rode it. It was kinda rough and I'm assuming it was running slow because I got on in the early morning. I'm willing to give it a redemption round though. I know I rode it at a bad time.

I feel like all these rides from Dollywood are underrated, mystic Timbers is also HIGHLY underrated, and the ride from Dollywood you don't have on here Lighting Rod is the most overrated ride in the US. IMO

Personally, there are plenty of coasters which I think are underrated, but not many that are overrated. I really like X2 at Magic Mountain but I also thought it was overrated; too rough for my taste although to be fair, I only rode it once. I think Nemesis Inferno and Swarm at my home park are overrated... but I still really like both of them regardless. One ride which I thought was absolute garbage was Scream at Magic Mountain, but apparently lots of people agree with me so that one isn't overrated necessarily.

You can’t compare every ride to a GCI. Clearly GCI makes their rides for the ejector and intensity. But you being someone who is a ride enthusiast, isn’t nearly the same as someone that goes to park once or twice a year. Mystic Timbers would be a huge airtime machine to someone that hasn’t ridden Twisted Timbers or other GCI’s. So please do everyone a favor and stop comparing literally every rides airtime to them.
