Nice to see that the most played game is actually a recent one. I bet playing and reviewing all those games takes away a lot of the joy you probably once had about playing a new game, so I guess that finding a game nowadays that jumps into the top of this list must be really pleasing. I can only imagine, because I don't play a tenth of the different games you play and I now find that two maybe three games a year are now worth multiple plays and buying at all. Good for you, :D

Fresco is one of our favorites too. I'd love to get some of the expansions but we're still enjoying the base game. You're review helped me to pull the trigger on it and My wife and I just want to say thank you to you and Jen.

So nice to see Fresco in there, a lovely game that actually works well with just two. Your number one really surprised me and has reignited my interest in picking that up eventually. Thanks Richard!

Good choices. My wife and I enjoy some of the same games regularly. After watching this we are really thinking about Dungeon Petz and Gloomhaven as possible games to get.

Glad to see Shadowrun Crossfire still so high on your list. I have recently converted the Crossfire group over to playing some Gloomhaven, which they love as well. However, still have to sneak some Crossfire in between. Should be new Crossfire expansing coming first half of next year, according to the GenCon panel! Here's hoping for some more dual-colored roles!
@Zion-187 жыл бұрын
I like that you sorted this by play time rather than number of plays. My number one for play time is Marvel Legendary. 82 plays probably add up to 60ish hours.

There will be no spoilers here, but I've actually played some of Pandemic Legacy Season 2. There was a demo of it at Gencon and my buddy and I banged out a game... they even let us keep our characters once we were done (and there were promotional bandaids that they were giving out with the game logo on them)! There weren't any story spoilers in the game (we got a little blurb on the back of our character cards that gave us the intro stuff, but nothing major), and it was really interesting. It's familiar to those who have played Pandemic before, but even from the little taste we got, I can tell that they're trying new things with the mechanics and I'm really jazzed to try more. Oh yeah, and we totally won. :D

It might be too much work, but with a top 10 could you overlay pics of the boards and components as you describe them? It really helps to see the game to decide if it is something I want more info about. For example fresco/dungeon petz is an immediate "that looks like something my family would enjoy". Roll for the galaxy is "skip ahead" time.
@rahdo7 жыл бұрын
you're right, it is a ton of extra work. i film the way i do specifically to avoid all of that sort of editing and whatnot...
@carrmak7 жыл бұрын
You can find the names of the games in the description box if you scroll down. Copy paste them into Boardgamegeek and you can look at tons of images there. :)
@toddhunter1237 жыл бұрын
That of course works, but defeats the purpose of watching the video. To be honest, the way I watch rahdo tops 10s is to look at the spoilers, see if there is a game I'm interested in hearing about and then generally stop watching anyway because the games I recognise I already know about. For all their faults, when watching a dice tower top 10 the only effort involved is to skip over whatever Sam is saying and you generally get a good idea of what the game looks and plays like for further research.

It is fun when you get into a groove with a game... or when you play the game, like on your 2nd or 3rd play, and your brain opens up and you start to see the variety of possibilities and intracies a game has to offer. That is one of the problems, so to speak, of modern gaming is that there is such the thirst of temptation for so so SO many new games that we are apt not to get cozy and comfortable to form relations, really strong bonds with a handful of really really good games for us each year. It helps of course to have that companion or close circle that can spend time to share that experience.

Not so surprised in Gloomhaven. :) I've backed the 2nd printing, and I can't wait for the game to reach my address. :D

I don't consider games from 2010/2012 like Keyflower, London and Fresco as old ;) I think of all those as more recent additions to my collection. My games from the 80s and 90s are my old ones.

I was wondering how Escape: Curse of the Temple was missing, then I saw that it was a total time list, not number of play. We blow through at least 3 runs every time we get it on the table...and I know Jen loves it too.

Rahdo, I've tried to teach Roll for the Galaxy to people in a half hour and I can't do it! Can you please make a 20-minute instructional game on how to play it?
@rahdo7 жыл бұрын
there's no real way to teach the game without being there in the room with folks to answer their questions. really, when you need to do is play the first couple of rounds without the player screens and walk everything through their options. basically, i will keep my shield up, and very quickly make my choices, and then ignore it and walk the newbies through the moves, and refer back to my hidden stuff "remember, i might have chosen explore, so you might want to have a die over here to take advantage of that if i did" :)

Games like Fresco, with very dry themes (painting, going to the market, etc) are completely lost on me. They could have the best game mechanics in the world and I would still be completely bored. I still appreciate your vids very much, so thank you!

I'm really surprised by no. 1 ;). But I'm more surprised that you played Dominion less than 12 times (same goes for Castles of Burgundy) - I thought these would make the list.

i've played dominion probably around 30ish times, so maybe 15 hours total, which made it not a top10 :)

I had guessed 4 out of your top 5 games correctly (albeit in a slightly different order) but the one I got wrong that you didn't include at all was Dominion (I missed L of A). Really??? How many plays/hours for that game?

I think he said less than 12 plays of dominion, at least I saw that in another comment
@rahdo7 жыл бұрын
nope, someone else said that (I think they didn't understand how the countdown worked... not # of times played, but total hours played). i've played dominion probably around 30ish times, so maybe 15 hours total, which made it not a top10 :)

Kind of surprised. I was expecting a list full of games with 200+ plays. Kind of feels strange to know that your most played games are just in the 40s-50s range.
@Sokara4687 жыл бұрын
Heck, I'm thrilled if I get to play a board game 3 times! 40-50s would be insane for me, and 200 would be unthinkable.
@johnkennedysmith7 жыл бұрын
Have you tried not buying a bunch of games? It's usually the reason why that happens.
@Sokara4687 жыл бұрын
No, it's just the nature of playing in groups where eveyone has ideas for games to play. Different games hit the table at any given session for many reasons, including wanting to try out new games as often as possible, like Richard. Some people own a few games, some people own many games. Furthermore, we are all held captive by our individual schedules, so finding a consistent group to play that same game several times is rather rare.
@johnkennedysmith7 жыл бұрын
It doesn't have to be a group. I have one friend that I play Dominion with a lot. We play other games as well, but mostly Dominion.
@aowoodworks24087 жыл бұрын
I can't imagine playing a single game 200x. Everything would become too mechanical if I knew every best step to take. I only have a few big games that I've played a dozen times or so, most of mine only get about 3 plays a year. Smaller filler games are easy to bang out so I don't quite count those but I'm pretty sure I'll never even get to 50 on one game.
