That whole thing was a ridiculous idea from the get-go. They didn't really establish a relationship, so they didn't really have a break-up. It was like the writers got too drunk to do the scripts, so some interns filled in, they got drunk, and just wrote down what they babbled about at the bar.

That's because they are smart and knew they had to support the main couple of the show, they knew a lot of people wouldn't like other couple that wasn't Ross and Rachel (c'mon, its 10 years of building up a relationship) so they went with the flow, it's not so difficult and even logical. There's really no reason for them not to like the couple (if they care for each other in real life, because if they hate other in real life, well, that's another story) saying is like incest is way over the top, they were best friends and A LOT of people's start as best friends and then became couples, that's very normal, they real obstacle was ross all along.

I know I'm minority, but I consider Dan and Blair the best couple on Gossip Girl and I will never get over the fact that writers ruined healthy, very well developed relationship just because Blair and Chuck were more popular and fans were demanding it. In my opinion whenever that happens on a show, it maybe make majority of the fans happy, but the overall quality of the series suffers. I don't think that pleasing fans is worth losing logic. Just look at Pretty little liars - all of the "original" couples got together because of the fanbase and in my opinion the show lost sparks and validity because of that. It felt rushed, staged and unbelievable. You can't get everything you want in real life and that's what makes it more magical and worth the beautiful things you actually get.

I always feel bad at how terrible the Joey/Rachel relationship went. That was Joey's best storyline. Matt was finally given a chance to show that he could portray deeper emotions. When Joey was in love with Rachel it was great. When Rachel returned his feelings, it turned sour. Joey's one-sided love and rejection should have been the end of it. Then that should have opened the door for Joey to realize that he wanted something serious and for him to find real love like the others did.

Regarding the three shows on here I watched religiously: Ted getting back with Robin killed the series finale for HIMYM. Especially with her and Ted being broken up for so long and establishing her and Barney’s relationship progressing- the whole thing sucked. We never met the mother fully until the last season and they go off and kill her in a 40 minute finale? It wasn’t a surprise when other fans hated the ending. Joey and Rachel has to have been one of the worst plot points in a sitcom of all time. They spent all that time building up Ross and Rachel as a will they or won’t they couple for 10 years and they could’ve almost fucked that up. Ross and Rachel were the show’s main couple and a lot of the series focused on them. To transgress from that pathway nearly alienated the group and the viewers at home. Dawson was just too immature for Joey and too possessive even when they weren’t dating or together. Pacey was there for Joey when she needed him the most yet Dawson always expected Joey to come crawling back to him. They all had their flaws but Dawson and his narcissism at times made him easily one of the worst characters on the show.

i don't know if this is an unpopular opinion in 2021, but dan and blair was not AT ALL that bad. it was indeed a filler couple and writers never meant it to last, but the build up to them was interesting and the actors actually had chemistry, i can say i enjoyed them. back in the day i remember people hating it so much i would not even confess it lol
