That's exactly the point, the dead children in the animatronics mean no harm. They just want to find their killer and eliminate him, that's also the reason why the Spirits themselves don't attack children, which is said in the 2nd part: "The Animatronics stare at adults all the time". This must mean that they are watching the adults closely to find their killer.

Wow, the first tape really highlighted the personalities of the different children. Susie was so open and friendly and willing to talk, while Gabriel... well... I still can't make out whether he got pissed by the investigatiors questions and told him to get out, or if he sensed William coming into the facility and tried to warn him to get away.
