If you learn spanish, you will be able to speak with portuguese and italian people. Well, spanish people are better understood by italians or portugueses than backwards.Italian people understand about 75% of what spanish people say and portuguese about 100-90%, but spanish understand about 60% italians or portuguese say (they are dialects in portuguese we can understand 100% of what they say in Macao, East-Timor and some parts of Brazil).That it means you don't need to learn italian or portuguese, just spanish, the only thing you can do to understand more italian and portuguese people once you speak spanish is to practice listening them. For example, it is widely said by portuguese people that they can't understand other portuguese dialects or they understand much more spanish than other portuguese dialects, so learning those languages besides spanish won't solve the problem you might be of not understanding them.

I was always told they were similar enough to be understood at least some of the time by speakers of one of those three languages. From someone who has taken Spanish and Italian lessons before, I can say they are pretty similar. However, I always thought Spanish and Portuguese were more similar to each other than Spanish and Italian. They are neat languages though! Thank you so much for commenting! I tried to learn a little Mandarin before I visited China, but no one could understand the simplest phrases I spoke because pronunciation is so difficult.

Yeah. It’s weird because of their reliance on tone so much. And it’s so easy to make a mistake. If you get the tone just a little bit off, you could be saying a completely different word entirely. Understandable why they couldn’t understand. It’s just a very weird language, especially to us English speakers.

Chinese is not the hardest,in fact it's very easy only 4 tones, but I think Vietnamese and Thai are really hard.A chinese Singapore

Well, like I said earlier in the video, this video is based off of the point of view of a native English speaker, as I myself speak English as my native tongue. Then again, everyone’s opinions on what language is more difficult is very different.

Chinese is exceptionally difficult for native English speakers. We do not rely on tone as the Chinese do. This alone makes Chinese completely foreign to us
