Anastasia, The Prince of Egypt, and The Iron Giant, were best non-Disney animated films of the late 90s. Seen Anastasia and Iron Giant in the theater in 1997 & 1999. I regret missing out on the Prince of Egypt, that's Dreamswork's greatest work.

This is a fine example of the Trope, "All Animation is Disney", which is when any kind of media is mistakenly believed to have been made by one main competitor, instead of its real creator, usually because no one pays attention to the obvious opening logos that clearly say, "Universal", "Warner Bros.", "20th Century Fox", etc. And NOT Disney

Idk if it's overzealous Disney fans or just general audience confusion, but it's annoying. It's that thing of "Only Disney makes good animated movies" so people mistake all good animated movies as Disney movies. Same thing goes with Comic Book Movies. "Only Marvel makes good Comic Book Movies" so if a Comic Book Movie from another studio is good, they try to say it's just like a Marvel movie, even though, while they are good, they are generally nothing like Marvel.

All Dogs Go to Heaven made me cry when Charlie died again for real. I love Thumbelina, Anastasia, Ferngully, All Dogs Go to Heaven, Iron Giant, the first Land Before Time (which made me cry when Littlefoot's mother died), An American Tail, The Secret of NIHM, and Balto. I don't care if they are not Disney movies. they are just great and fun movies to watch, even if some make me cry. love them all.

That and the Dark Crystal. I worked in a shoe store at the time and showed that in the kids section. I was shocked at how many kids watched it but we're never scared. And I didn't know how the parents would react but most of them were surprised that the movie was available. I had people asking me if they could buy it. I agree with you about #6, not too many people believe that Groot wasn't his first voice acting role. Only true Diesel fans know of TIG being one of his first major acting roles in general. This along with his lower budget films (like Boiler Room) helped to catapult him into stardom with his roles in the F&F and COR franchises.

I may have watched most of these titles as a kid those years ago, but never once did I think these animated films were Disney back in the 90s. The quality of each one is entirely different from what Disney can pull in their Renaissance Era heyday.

I never really thought of any of these as Disney movies, mostly because I payed way to much attention to all of the logos at the begining of the film. My personal favorites have to be Thumbelina, The Prince Of Egypt, and Anastasia; all beautifully written and animated films with absolutely perfect musical numbers that'll either make you cry or put a huge smile on your face

FernGully and Thumbelina both have special warm and fuzzy places in my heart. I loved those films as a kid. Anastasia was a big favorite in my late teens. I still have 2 music boxes from that movie. Land Before Time is one movie I missed out on when it came out, but watching that film and its animated series always help me revisit my childhood. Thanks for all the great memories!

Shrek I agree, a lot of people get confused on that one for some weird reason, as for Despicable Me as far as I'm concerned I haven't heard of any confusion about it being a Disney film but I think I've may of heard of it being confused as a Dreamworks film.

Well it's the fact that Despicable Me is a modern day film and Shrek bares no similarities to any of the Disney films, so they wouldn't qualify for this list. And Disney had always stood out for having traditional animated films, and other studios were making films that had a similar look to what Disney has, so they qualify for this list.

Here's an idea, how about a list of 'Animated Films People Wouldn't Recognize'. I can already think of some movies like Help! I'm A Fish, We're Back: A Dinosaur Story, Titan A.E., Eight Crazy Nights (which is adult animated), The Black Cauldron, etc. Just a few ideas to throw out there.

Bluth releasing All Dogs Go To Heaven the same day as The Little Mermaid actually makes sense. An American Tail and The Land Before Time were both released alongside Disney films (The Great Mouse Detective and Oliver and Company respectively) and managed to beat them at the box office. So, Bluth figured All Dogs would do the same. An honest and impossible to predict mistake to make.

I really like An American Tail ,The Land Before Time, All Dogs go to Heaven, Thumbelina and The Swan Princess ! I think they are all underated movies. I also like the movie Rock A Doodle.
