Haha the small box thing is SO key! I packed all my books into a huge box and was super impressed with myself getting them all to fit so neatly and perfectly, doh - literally couldn't lift it, I was unpacking it 5 minutes later 😑

You forgot a very important one for people who aren’t moving with movers: If you have especially heavy boxes, GET WORK GLOVES. The kinds with the grips on the palms. It makes it SO MUCH EASIER.

Another helpful tip is to make a spreadsheet if you want to get really specific about what is in each box. (Or just to take inventory of what you own.) I label each box with a number and write the destination. For example Box #1 Kitchen, and then in a google spreadsheet list what exactly is in the box, like sponges.

Great tips! We're moving Friday and it's going much smoother than in the past. Love your overalls tip! And something that really helped me was a list I made last time with all the phone #'s and account #'s for utilities, credit cards, etc. and a check list to go down to remember to change addresses w/magazines, drivers license, registration, post office, etc. I'm so glad I saved it all. Oh, and we invested in about 10 plastic bins from home depot a few years back and the handles really help with the extra heavy stuff like books.

Packing a travel bag is so smart! I could use a 'soothing sista,' new subscriber here! Watching this made me realize how far along I am since I've already moved most of my stuff but now need all my personal belongings and my entire wardrobe and somewhere to put it, but still, a little less to worry about so I'm less overwhelmed now! Love this cute brick wall background!

I've moved quite a few times too so one good tip is to use garbage bags to stuff clothes in. Easy no hassle and reusable too! but do remember to label them! ;) I like the Glad forceflex ones.

moving in a few weeks! definitely will use that kind of tape instead of buying the clear tape. also, i work at a grocery store and i'm taking boxes from there. please please ask the grocery for boxes. we get too much shit and too much cardboard.

I didn't even think to ask the grocery stores. Do we just go to the customer service counter and ask?

Lots of great ideas! I disagree with the overalls idea though. I do know how easy it is to lose track of your tape or markers, but I think for me it would be better to keep a basket/container in each area that you can put the markers/tape etc in after using each time. I go to the bathroom too often to wear overalls 😬

Terrific, thanks…great ideas. I buy new boxes and number them and keep a special book with a complete detailed list of what's in each box in case one gets lost, then I know what to replace, especially my books. I've moved 28 times in my life and I've never had a problem with any mover. Thanks again, great video.

Also, I highly recommend those plastic lidded storage bins instead of boxes, they’re reusable, I use them for holiday decorations and out of season clothes and coats. They also stack really well. I used about 10 for my move but I lay need 3 for regular storage, stacked they only take up 1/4 of a tiny hall closet
@ScoutAdams5 жыл бұрын
You’re so right about the paper tape. Other tapes doubles one’s energy spent on packing because it takes so much time to find the edge of that damn clear (and expensive) tape - that reqires scissors or a knife to cut. I’m moving and dread it, but as much as I want to move on the cheap, I’m taking your advice and hiring professional movers. Thanks for the helpful vid!

Hey here's another tip!! You don't need to buy boxes. Whenever I was moving, I went to Walmart at night time when they were unpacking all their boxes and just asked them if I could have some of their empty boxes. Go for the toilet paper aisle or the cereal aisle. You'll score some nice big boxes there!

If you do not have overalls you can also have like a fanny pack with those essentials. I kept a scissor, tape and markers on my plastic fanny pack and it was life changing on the process 😅

Your video really sums up exceptionally well the moving experience. I wish I had seen this before moving out, the moving company was a disaster... my husband work by their side because they hadn't brought enough workers... a lot of things arrived broken, they didn't wrap the couch, nor the cushions (dust marks everywhere still trying to get them out)... the list goes on... next time I'll certainly do better!! cheers!
