Spacemanbow is the best MSX game every, it really use the hardware to the limit :) its hard to limit it to 10 games. Also Pippols, Kingsvally 2 and Nemesis 3 needed to be in the list. And Metalgear 2 :)

Wow... trip down memory lane with this. Totally forgot about Knighmare. Konami were the best for MSX until green beret came out, must have been programmed by Ocean because it just wasn't of the same quality. Never heard of Hinotori but I'm guessing it was on the MSX2 as everyone knows the MSX couldn't scroll for shit! Block by block lol

Hinotori was also known as 'Firebird' in the EU. And yes, it was a MSX2 game, smooth-scrolling and color-palette and all :)

The MSX 1 had issues with scrolling, the MSX2 was far, far better for that.

Well, I owned an MSX2+ and while it was a lot better than an MSX1/2, it's still choppy. You do get used to that after a while, though. The issue is that the MSX scrolls in tiles, making smooth scrolling impossible without certain tricks. The 2+/Turbo-R supports better scrolling, but only very few games really utilized its capabilities (e.g. Space Manbow).

The MSX1 video chip wasn’t the greatest, so Konami often used the character based screen 1 mode in stead. That’s why scrolling is in 8 pixel steps.

MSX1 had no bitmap screen-mode hardware-scrolling at all; MSX2 only had vertical-scrolling and only the MSX2+ and TurboR have both H and V hardware-scrolling. Many MSX game either used a character-based screen-mode allowing 'choppy' 8-pixel tiles-scrolling or no horizontal-scrolling at all. Technically speaking, one could do smooth horizontal scrolling with some trickery, but that left too little processing power to do much else (without frame-skipping....) Seeing how many great vertical-scrolling (shmup) there were for the MSX2, it's a real shame it didn''t have horizontal-scrolling... Besides many games were ports and especially in the late 80s, lot's of (very) mediocre games were released without any optimizations. In the 90s some very impressive looking and even parallax scrolling games were released for the MSX2 and 2+ (Fantasm Soldier 2, Akin, Super Laydock series, etc).

I owned a SVI-738 Msx1 and a NMS-8280 Msx2, both systems had the fault that the PSG volume was way louder then the SCC. I modified my Konami's F1-Spirit cartridge with a switch so you could leave it in the computer without the game getting booted and a potentiometer to balance the sound. Great nostalgia indeed.

!PILE OF SHITE! i had a MSX8010...and all of my 32k games were better than this craps...IMMORTAL GAMES like... CHUCKIE EGG...SWEET ACORN...RIVER RAID...BUCK ROGERS...DRILLER TANKS...+1 with HORSES RACE ...and the list continues...even the 2 cartridges games (atlethic land and monkey academy)were better...if i had those kind of SHIT games above i would return them!
