A lot of the muppet characters looked very different when they were originally introduced. - Oscar was originally orange in season 1, but since about season 2 or 3, Oscar has been green ever since. - Snuffy having big bulging eyes and no eyelids in earlier seasons, but has since gotten less bulkier eyes and eyelids. - Telly having whirling eyes and antenna originally. The antenna was removed, and whirling eyes replaced with normal eyes. - Cookie Monster having teeth in TV commercials that predated Sesame Street, and the teeth went away when Sesame Street debuted. - Big Bird originally didn't have a full head of feathers, but was given a full head of feathers around season 2 or 3. Grover, Elmo, Abby, Baby Bear, Bert, Ernie, Herry, Rosita, Zoe, Count, and Prairie Dawn were/are mostly unchanged, despite a couple of cosmetic changes made once in a blue moon, to where they didn't look too dated, as well as in order for them to stay relevant. Additional honorable mentions... I'd include retired characters Roxie Marie, Biff, and Forgetful Jones, as well as the likes of Humphery, Ingrid, Natasha, Murray, Ovajita, Zoe, Rosita, and Prairie Dawn.

Some of the most familiar and popular Muppets are full-bodied characters. Big Bird is the best known example, though his Sesame Street cohorts include Snuffy and his family, Bruno the Trashman, Sam the Robot and Barkley. The Muppet Show played host to Sweetums, Thog, Timmy Monster, The Mutations, Doglion, Behemoth, Fletcher Bird, and Sopwith the Camel. The Gorgs loomed large on Fraggle Rock, while Bear and his friend Ursa star in Bear in the Big Blue House. Later examples include Mopatop on Mopatop's Shop. Various overseas versions of Sesame Street have had their own larger than life stars, including Kippi Ben Kippod, Boombah, Nimnim, and Zeliboba. Feature films brought a new raft of full-bodied characters, including Miss Finch, Mommy Dodo, Daddy Dodo, Marie Dodo and Donnie Dodo from Follow That Bird, and The Ghost of Christmas Present and The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come from The Muppet Christmas Carol.

I am SOOO glad that Ernie and Bert are on the list. I want it sometimes because I enjoy the clever writing, puppet design, unforgettable characters. Plus they are reviving old characters like Gordon, and Stinky, but it's just not the same without Mr. Hooper

Grover should be way higher on the list. He's Awesome!

Telly is my favorite character because I was obsessed with him playing the tuba, admiring triangles and bouncing on his pogo stick. I even used to imitate Telly as a kid by pretending that a bunch of straws were a tuba and I liked the colors pink and purple because it reminded me of him. I even wanted to play the tuba just like him, but tubas hurt people’s cheeks. Telly never fails to make me laugh and no other character compares to him, in my opinion

Why is Rosita not on the list? Big the only Spanish-speaking character on the show should count for something!

Caroll Spinney as Oscar and Big Bird is the backbone that still holds "Sesame Street" together after over 40 years of episodes, specials, and movies. Ever since Jim Henson found him, he's been the heart and soul of the show. Not even Elmo has a legacy like Big Bird, and for the past few weeks after seeing "I Am Big Bird", I've grown to fully respect and appreciate Caroll for his endurance of being the characters that families all over the world have cherished. Bravo, WatchMojo, for making Big Bird #1!

Yep. Caroll’s 83 now & isn’t physically performing them no more. But, he still does their voices, cause he STILL!!!! wants to be a part of Sesame Street’s muppeteer team, after 48 years.

Strangely enough my 2 favorite Sesame Street characters are Forgetful Jones and Clementine. They're relationship are like Woody and Jessie from Toy Story 2. The important character that figures out things is Forgetful Jones and Clementine helps him remember with his brain by the use of her brain.

I personally think the reason Sesame Street has lasted so long is because of two things. You don't have to be a little kid to enjoy it. There's songs for the little kids(and the education), the humor for pre teens, the somewhat nostalgia for teenagers, the parodies for adults(like spider monster or game of chairs), and there's the classic characters for the elders. The other reason is it's timeless value. Sesame Street isn't really set in a time. Thus making it timeless and really the only thing that really bothers you about the older episodes is the older quality camera.
