For those wondering why ohtani is #4. This list every season is a PROJECTION and PREDICTION of the best players for the next season. They’ve always done it this way. And Ohtani is only dhing this season. However, the confusion can come because mlb names this “top 100 right now” which doesn’t make any sense. Fix it mlb network.

Shohei had 44HR (12HR ahead of all other players) when he got arm injury and absent for playing around one month while he had 23 starts and 3.16ERA as an Ace for Angels. Now he is in Dodgers with all the protection behind and best runners in front of him, Shohei can release himself from the limitations of savings energies in stealing & running baseslike he did for pitching! Definitely Shohei will be far better as a DH alone in batting AVG, runs, RBI, & OPS.

He’s not pitching in 2024. What made him the best player in the game the past few seasons is that he was able to both hit and pitch at a high level. To this point, he has not been the best overall offensive player in the league. So when ranking him for 2024, they are looking at what they think he will do at the plate and base running alone. To me, Acuna and Judge are better in terms of offensive production. Ohtani and Betts are debatable.

The value a player generates by being on the field instead of in the DH slot is huge. There really shouldn’t be any reason for a pure DH to even be sniffing the top 10 but MLB just threw him up to 4 because it’s Shohei

If they’re saying it’s a projection for 2024 where Ohtani will be a pure DH then he should be well outside the top 10, even if Shohei puts up Bonds like numbers next season, the DH is just such a huge hinderance. If the list is based on who the best players are not accounting for injuries, then Ohtani should be 1st by a country mile. 4th just makes no sense no matter how you slice it

Judge and Yankees made a fake 62HR record of treating the world!
